BSM International Business Model Competition

A. Introduction PT Bank Syariah Mandiri proudly hosts BSM International Business Model Competition. This competition is part of the 12th anniversary celebration of PT Bank Syariah Mandiri (BSM). Well make the celebration a milestone to gain and grow our capability for BSM business development. We are looking for new business model proposals that come up with genuine, creative and show the best for creating impacts on disruptive market structure as well as impacts on the sharia bank (BSM) competitiveness far above its competitors while consistently maintaining Islamic universal values. Long-term effects are expected to boost BSM aspirations for providing all stakeholders with more added values. The competition is designed to provide creators, collaborators, industrial experts and academics with a creative forum on the future of sharia banking industry. For this reason, we are inviting proposals from various backgrounds. Proposal evaluation will be based on its potential to generate impacts on disruptive market structure. A proposal prepared through a good research deserve our first priority.

B. Theme Business Models that disrupt market structure C. Research Field The recommended area of business models are retail (consumer) banking, micro banking, business banking, commercial banking, corporate banking, branchless banking, pawning, or internet/mobile banking. D. Participants Indonesian and international participants are eligible. E. Terms and Conditions 1. Proposal is either prepared individually or in group of maximum 5 (five) people. 2. Participant in teams are not a mixed group of BSM employee and non-BSM employees. 3. BSM Intl Business Model Committee members is not eligible to be participants. 4. Proposal is original and never published anywhere. 5. Participants may submit more than 1 (one) proposal. 6. Proposal submission deadline is 7 December 2011 at 21.00 local time. The committee is rightful to ignore any incoming proposal later than the deadline, 1

7. Every participant is required to send own CV and scanned ID image along with the proposal in Print Document File (pdf) format by email to the committee: bizmod@syariahmandiri.co.id. In the subject box emailed to the committee must be filled in with: Bizmod BSM. 8. Proposal can be written either in English or Bahasa Indonesia. 9. Proposal delivers not only conceptual presentation but also innovation and development to be implemented. 10. Committee will select 12 finalists and elect 6 winners (3 internal winners and 3 external participants). Finalist nomination letters will be sent to the selected participants on 3rd January 2011. 11. Finalists living in Indonesia have to join in the final round session and present their proposal before the jury panel on 18th January 2012. 12. Finalists living in overseas will receive questions from the jury panel to be answered in paper. The written answers can be submitted in either Microsoft Word or pdf formats. Answers in audio/video file format are preferred, but not obligatory. 13. Successful participants in the final round are obliged to submit their presentation in either in the form of pdf or ppt file formats to the committee before 17th January 2012. 14. Winners will be announced on 20th January 2012 and will have to attend the awarding ceremony on 28th January 2012. 15. The jury panel uses passing grade criteria. Winners are participants who have successfully meet the passing grade. F. Disclaimer 1. All proposals submitted will become the property PT Bank Syariah Mandiri including the copyrights. 2. The Organizing Committee decision is non-negotiable. G. Awards 1. Financial - Winner I: USD 2500; - Winner II: USD1500; - Winner III: USD1000. 2. Non-Financial: - Certificate; - Trophy.

Firman Jatnika (Bank Syariah Mandiri) I. Competition Structure & Evaluation Criteria The business model proposal evaluation goes through three rounds of selection. The main criteria of this business model competition is the business initiative presented by participants to generate disruptive market structure: value creation, market creation, innovation, feasibility & impact.

J. Proposal Format Submitted proposals should represent a comprehensive business model. The proposal must include the following: 1. Abstract 2. Statement letter of original/genuine initiatives of the submitted business model. 3. Background 4. Deliberation on the business model that explains the business model framework. Three core elements that serve as the foundation of the business model must provide answers to the questions: what is the value being created?, for whom is it being created?, and how will it be created?. These questions must be adequately answered and supplied with explanations to the following aspects: a. Positioning, includes: value network, market scope, and strategic advantages. b. Strategic Element, includes: value proposition, critical capability, and customer segments. c. Profit Model, includes: revenue model and cost model. 5. Conclusion 6. Further works or research in need (if any) 7. Bibliography (if any) Proposal must comply with the following format: 1. Font: Arial, 11 pt; line space 1,5 2. Margin: Top: 1,25 inch; Bottom: 1,25 inch; Right: 1,25 inch; Left: 1,25 inch. 3. Total page including attachment, tables and reference may not exceed 30 (thirty) pages excluding the front and back pages. 4. Front page shows at the minimum: Proposal type; participant name; and statement written below the participant name: Prepared for BSM Intl Business Model Competition.
