Accessing PI as a Relational Database or an OPC Server

Deliverables Professional services to deliver an on-site PI Data Access (DA) class Course documentation for all students - maximum of 12 students per class OSIsoft training material will be current to the latest version of our tools. If the buyer wishes to have the class taught on an older version of our software, the customer must specify this at order time so that we can prepare the appropriate course documentation Training certificate for each student Compilation of training evaluations Class Content o 1 - Introduction to PI: PI System Architecture, PI Point Database, PI System Data Flow, PI Security, PI Time Architecture. 2 - Common Dialog Windows: Connections Manager, Tag Search, PI Login, Tag Attributes. 3 - PI as a Relational Database: Introduction to PI OLEDB and PI ODBC, Organization of the information, SQL Syntax Tutorial, Familiarization with OSIsoft's OLEDB clients, Access of PI information through Microsoft Excel and Access, Access/management of PI information through Microsoft SQL Server, Design of SQL queries to read, create, modify or suppress PI information through ODBC/OLEDB standards, Familiarization with ADO and ADO.NET technologies, Access and manage PI data via VBA and VB.NET code that uses PI ODBC/PI OLEDB. 4 - PI as an OPC Server: Introduction to PI OPC DA/HDA Server, Organization of the information, Presentation of the different OPC specifications, Familiarization with OSIsoft's OPC tools, Familiarization with OPC Automation and OPC .NET API technologies, Development of VB6 code to use OPC DA and HDA specifications via OPC technology.

Objectives
This class provides guidance to developers who want to design custom applications where PI acts as an OPC or a Relational database. It demonstrates how to use the different products included in the PI Data Access (PI DA) module. That module allows developers to access and manage PI data via the communication standards (ODBC, OLEDB, OPC-DA, OPC-HDA).

Note: This is a general guideline for the course. The instructor adjusts the class content to fit the students requirements. This means you'll spend more time on subjects that are important to you and less time on subjects that are less relevant to your situation. However, the trainer will not go beyond the scope of this training package. For custom training please contact your sales representative.

Timeline The class dates will be mutually agreed upon at acceptance of the proposal. OSIsoft requires a minimum of 2 weeks notice in order to prepare course documentation and assign a trainer. OSIsoft will ship training material at least 5 days before the first day of training.

We suggest having the class from Tuesday to Wednesday. Monday will be used to install and test training equipment and training software. Requirements The customer is responsible for providing a properly equipped classroom. The minimum requirements for a classroom are: Access to training room for the duration of the class including preparation day for software setup One PC per student with a Pentium III or better, 512 MB RAM or more, 1 GB free hard disk space, Networked TCP/IP, Windows 2000/XP, Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0, Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003, Excel, PI SMT, PI Universal Data Server, PI ProcessBook and PI DataLink Class room equipment: flip chart, a white board or a white screen and a compatible Laptop projector (1024 x 768) Students must be familiar with programming (Visual Basic 6, Visual Basic .NET or C#) as well as the SQL language to take this class.
