here are the major diIIerences between Oracle9i and Oracle10g: this Ieatures comes in 10g which
was not in 9i
O ajor changes to SQL optimizer internals
O Oracle Grid computing
O # and SH tables incorporated into Oracle PerIormance Pack and Diagnostic Pack
options
O utomated Session History (SH) materializes the Oracle ait InterIace over time
O Data Pump replaces imp utility with impdp
O utomatic Database Diagnostic onitor (DD)
O SQLTuning dvisor
O SQLccess dvisor
O #olling database upgrades (using Oracle10g #)
O dbmsscheduler package replaces dbmsfob Ior scheduling

Here are the main Ieatures in Oracle Database 10g:

O There are 2 OE (Oracle Enterprise anager): One Ior local
management (OEM Database Control) and one Ior central
management (OEM Grid Control).
O The $$& (a mandatory tablespace) is added in Oracle 10g
and keeps metadata Ior various tools like LOG# #
(#epository catalogue).
O lashback technology: a new type oI recovery log called a
flashback log enables the Flashback database Ieature. The
Flashback Ieature allows you to perIorm queries that return past
data or the history oI changes on a particular table to undo
undesirable changes to a particular table. ith Ilashback Ieature
enabled is possible also to recover a table or the entire database to
a previous point in time.
O :tomatic $torage Management ($M): Using S Ieature
the DB doesn`t need to maintain thousands oI data Iiles or to
manage the I/O. ll is done automatically and what we have to
manage is an S instance and a Iew disk groups. The
perIormance also is improved in the S Ieature.
O Data P:mp technology: enables a Iaster import/ export. Because
the Duta Pump needs more time to start up Ior small jobs the old
exp/imp may be Iaster.
O In 10g we can rite to an external table (in 9i is possible only to
read Irom an external tablespace)
O In 10g we can transport tablespaces beteen different
platforms
O :tomatic Database Diagnostic Monitor (DDM): In Oracle
10g the statistics could be gathered automatically and saved in an
utomatic orkload #epository (#). Iter these snapshots
are taken DD run and creates reports about how the
perIormance could be improved (on the hardware and database
level).

Oracle is an extremely accepted database management scheme. Lots of editions is on

hand and put into practice in organizations. Organizations are practicing Oracle for
making applications and websites for a period thirty years or more.
t is fundamentally used on behalf of the basis that it assists in the efficient management
of huge quantity of data. First of all, it is used for the reason that it is platform free and
can be used on every platform. Oracle grants a lot of options and is very dependable.
Extensive ranges of options are presented which makes it easier to be used in a lot of
industry with a great efficiency.
Oracle 10g is the superior edition of Oracle 9i. The major difference between Oracle 9i
and 10g is that Oracle 10g is the database which uses lattice computing in the most
commercial method to categorize the data. Moreover Transparent Data Encryption and
Passwords for DB Links provide more powerful encryption for data. A-sync consigns
CONNECT ROLE not only for connections but also does a lot. New asmcmd utility and
self-tuning features provide great support for managing data. Automated Storage
Management (ASM) took part as an addition to the clustering feature performance and
scalability improves a lot than any previous version. 10g also provides the following
features in addition:
Automatic Workload Repository (AWR)
'drop database' statement
Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor (ADDM)
UNDROP a table from a recycle bin
rename Table-space
transport Table-space across machine types (E.g. Windows to Unix)
Flashback operation on transaction, table or database level
Oracle 11g is the superior edition of Oracle 10g. n little 11g is a totally different creature
to 8i. 11g has a secure file option which is an improvement to LOBs which allows
conventional files to be accumulated in the database. Oracle 11g has enhanced
multimedia option by which inside the database it increases the functionality of images
and video. There are many improved enhancements to the 3D and spatial package.
Previous efforts to allow compilation of PL/SQL actions have been frail. . Now the
PL/SQL basis is translated in a straight line into a DLL (or similar concept on the target
OS). Linking is not mandatory.
New release also has an extreme XML mprovement. This should be much more able to
attract people, who used to work with XML features. 11g also have Java enhancement
which enables Java features. Oracle is declaring a 70% development on read rigorous
workloads lying on this release. Needless to say, OEL/Grid Control Enhancements is
much nicer, much better than 10g. t was previously claimed as pain. The presentation
tools are at this time much more RAC responsive. ASM is now aware while running
RAC and let a limited read to happen on mirrored ASM volumes. There are some
additional features of 11g that were not presented previously,
Enhanced automatic memory management
Facility to online redefine chart that have occurred view logs.
Fundamental columns
mperceptible ndexes
New errors diagnose structure to avoid, detect and resolve vital database errors.
New memory structure called a results cache
Optimizer Changes
Superior safety for password-based verification
Table-space-level encryption

Oracle 10g R1 RAC
O Cluster Manager replaced by CRS
O SM introduced
O Concept of Services expanded
O ocrcheck introduced
O ocrdump introduced
O R was instance specific

Oracle 10g R2 RAC

O CRS was renamed as Clusterware
O asmcmd introduced
O CLUVFY introduced
O CR and Voting disks can be mirrored
O Can use FFCF with TF for CI and !T

Oracle 11g R1 RAC

O racle 11g RC parallel upgrades - racle 11g have rolling
upgrade features whereby RC database can be upgraded
without any downtime
O ot patching - Zero downtime patch application
O racle RC load balancing advisor - Starting from 10g R2 we
have RC load balancing advisor utility 11g RC load
balancing advisor is only available with clients who use
T, C, or the racle Call Interface (CI)
O M for RC - racle has incorporated RC into the
automatic database diagnostic monitor, for cross-node
advisories The script addmrptsql run give report for
single instance, will not report all instances in RC, this
is known as instance M ut using the new package
MS_M, we can generate report for all instances of RC,
this known as database M
O R command-line tool - racle utomatic iagnostic
repository (R) has a new command-line interface named
RCI, R Command Interface RCI can be used to access
the 11g alert log:
$adrci
adrci show alert
O ptimized RC cache fusion protocols - moves on from the
general cache fusion protocols in 10g to deal with specific
scenarios where the protocols could be further optimized
O racle 11g RC Grid provisioning - The racle grid control
provisioning pack allows us to "blow-out" a RC node
without the time-consuming install, using a pre-installed
"footprint"
O ata Guard - Standby snapshot - The new standby snapshot
feature allows us to encapsulate a snapshot for regression
testing e can collect a standby snapshot and move it into
our Q database, ensuring that our regression test uses
real production data
O Quick Fault Resolution - utomatic capture of diagnostics
(dumps) for a fault

Oracle 11g R2 RAC

O e can store everything on the SM e can store CR &
voting files also on the SM
O SMC
O Single Client ccess ame (SC) - eliminates the need to
change tns entry when nodes are added to or removed from
the Cluster RC instances register to SC listeners as
remote listeners SC is fully qualified name racle
recommends assigning 3 addresses to SC, which create
three SC listeners
O R is consolidated for the database
O 11g Release 2 Real pplication Cluster (RC) has server
pooling technologies so it's easier to provision and manage
database grids This update is geared toward dynamically
adjusting servers as corporations manage the ebb and flow
between data requirements for datawarehousing and
applications
O y default, L_LC is
O GS, gsdctl introduced
O RC neode is a new option that makes it easier to
consolidate databases that aren't mission critical, but
need redundancy
