Oracle Database Administrator (DBA)

Oracle Certification Tracks

Choose the certification path that best suits your needs. Based on the job profiles of people working on
Oracle technologies, tools, and solutions, Oracle has identified the following certification tracks:

* Database Administrator (DBA)

Database Administrator (DBA)

DBA is responsible for administrative activities such as installing database, taking backups, managing
and fine-tuning performance over the network, and data recovery. They have the knowledge of basic
architecture of the Oracle database.
This track is further divided into following:
* Oracle8i Certified Professional
* Oracle9i Certified Associate, Professional, and Master

Oracle8i Certified Professional

You must pass the following 5 exams to obtain your Oracle8i OCP credential.
1. Exam#1Z0-001 Introduction to Oracle: SQL and PL/SQL
OR
Exam #1Z0-007 Introduction to Oracle9i: SQL
2. Exam #1Z0-023 Oracle8i: Architecture and Administration
3. Exam #1Z0-025 Oracle8i: Backup and Recovery
4. Exam #1Z0-024 Oracle8i: Performance Tuning
5. Exam #1Z0-026 Oracle8i: Network Administration

Oracle9i Certified Associate and Professional

Oracle9i Certified Associate
The Oracle Certification Program begins with the Associate level. At this apprentice skill level, Oracle
Certified Associates have skill sets that allow them to act as a junior team member working with database
administrators or application developers.

To earn the Oracle9i Database Administrator Certified Associate credential, 2 exams need to be cleared;
the first one can be taken via the Internet, while the subsequent exam must be taken in a proctored
environment.

You must pass the following 2 exams to obtain your Oracle9i DBA OCA credential.
1. Exam #1Z0-007 Introduction to Oracle9i: SQL
This is an online exam. It is also available at Oracle University or Authorized Prometric Test
Centers.
OR
Exam #1Z0-001 Introduction to Oracle: SQL and PL/SQL
If you have previously passed exam #1Z0-001, you will not be required to pass
Exam #1Z0-007.
2. Exam #1Z0-031 Oracle 9i Database: Fundamentals I
This is a proctored exam that is available only at Oracle University or Authorized Prometric Test
Centers.

Oracle9i DBA Certified Professional

The first step toward earning the highly respected Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) status is to earn
your Oracle9i DBA Certified Associate (OCA) credential. When you are ready to advance your Oracle9i
database expertise, it's time to take the next step toward becoming an OCP.

Candidates pursuing their Oracle9i DBA OCP must pass the following 2 exams as well as completing at
least 1 Oracle University hands-on course within the Oracle9i DBA learning path to obtain their Oracle9i
DBA OCP credential:
1. Exam #1Z0-032 Oracle9i Database: Fundamentals II
2. Exam #1Z0-033 Oracle9i Database: Performance Tuning

Exam Information

Passing Scores
Oracle routinely publishes new versions of Oracle Certification exams, and the passing score across
versions may differ. The passing score for each exam is set independently to maintain a consistent
standard across versions. For example, to maintain a consistent standard for success, a new version of
an exam, which contains more difficult questions than the prior version, will be assigned a somewhat
lower passing score.
For this reason, passing scores may vary between different exams in your certification track, and between
2 versions of the same exam.
The passing scores provided on the Oracle Certification Program website are for informational purposes
only. Oracle does not recommend an exam preparation strategy targeting the passing score, because
passing scores are subject to change.

Format of the Certification Exams

All exams are closed book exams. No written materials or notebook computers will be allowed in the
testing area. All questions are either multiple choice, fill in the missing word, or match these against those.

Exam Prices
The price for exam 1Z0-007 is $90 US Dollars over the Internet and in Authorized Prometric Testing
Centers. The price for all other Oracle Certification exams is equivalent to $125 US Dollars, plus any local
taxes.

Tests for the Oracle exams are conducted at authorized Prometric testing centers worldwide. Use their
on-line Test Center Locator to find the test center closest to you.

Once you have decided which Oracle Examination Track to go for, download the Candidate Guide for the
track you are pursuing. The guide contains test topics, preparation, and registration material. It is highly
