Meaning of HSL "High Signaling Link" or "High-Speed Signalling Link" - In tradit ional (SS7) the lower protocol stack

and hardware layer for signaling over (ATM) is known as (SSCS) or ATM Signaling for High Speed Links (HSLs). Adax ( SCTP) p rovides a signaling framework that is like SSCS /HSL for (IP) networks. Because Adax SCTP is a telco-oriented signaling structure for wireline, wireless and con verging networks it has provisioning options that can achieve link monitoring an d fail-over robustness and redundancy for IP signaling that rival standard SS7 n etworks. This delivers a transport signaling framework for IP networks that enha nces the speed and capability of SSCS/HSL. Deployed over T1/E1, Ethernet and ATM (OC3) physical media interfaces the Adax ATMII card together with SCTP provides a level of service performance that is at least comparable to broadband SS7 and in many cases can surpass it. In addition to the capabilities of the SIGTRAN protocols Adax recognized the inh erent unreliability of the IP network that led to the development of products th at improve both the quality and integrity of the IP protocols so that Adax custo mers benefit from transport level reliability, built-in security and redundancy. These have been discussed in some detail above and features include: Higher hea rtbeat rate, Rapid fail-over technology, (SLQ) technology to pick "best" alterna te link, Standard or Telco-grade timers and parameters selection. These and many other features unique to Adax such as non-oscillating change-over protection, e tc. ensure that IP signaling matches SS7 carrier-grade reliability. Other Related Definitions: The High Signalling Link (HSL) technology has been developed in the framework of t he OMI-HIC ESPRIT project. It is a one Gigabit/sec, bidirectional, asynchronous, point to point, highly integrated serial link, fully compliant with the IEEE 13 55 standard. An Association[4] exists to support and enhance the use of this sta ndard. The RCUBE component is a dynamic router, implementing a wormhole strategy for low latency. It contains an 8*8 non-blocking cross-bar, and 8 HSLs. This VL SI component can be used to build high performance, scalable and low-cost interc onnection networks. Since the internal router latency becomes 150 ns, the global network latency is negligible versus the software latency. Classical communicat ion protocols, such as TCP/IP introduce multiple copies of data, resulting in hi gh latency and low throughput. This is not acceptable for high speed networks su ch as HSL networks. [ASIM team ] The present invention generally relates to signaling protocols in telecommunicatio ns networks. More particularly, and not by way of any limitation, the present in vention is directed to a system and method for implementing a high speed link (H SL) at a network element capable of supporting multiple connections using a gene ric state machine (GSM) architecture. [Software Patents] The High Speed Link (HSL)is designed for real-time monitoring of telecommunication s networks. It provides advanced analysis capabilities to interpret signalling f or effective network testing and development, troubleshooting and tuning. With N etHawk M5, the user is able to monitor protocols, implement call and session tra cing and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) analysis in multi-technology environmen ts including UMTS, EDGE, GPRS and GSM technologies. The M5 is a PC-based solutio n that can be used in a standard PC, laptop, desktop or industrial PC. It offers wide support for different network manufacturers and different 3GPP specificati ons such as R5, R4 and R99. The analyser is able to verify High Speed Downlink P acket Access (HSDPA) broadband technology or circuit-switched video service. Hig h Speed Signalling links (HSL) and SS7 over IP (SigTran) can also be analysed wi th the M5. It is also capable of deciphering signalling and traffic in the lub a nd Gb interfaces in real-time for analysis. [Protea technology ] High Speed Links (HSL) are typically used for routing signalling traffic. With Hig h Speed Links (HSL) there are several advantages; the signalling traffic will be

more concentrated, the traffic can be sent at a higher speed, and you can use e xisting E1 cables instead of adding Ethernet cables. The Xsense system from OSIX has complete support for HSL. The same hardware is used as for traditional SS7 links. The information is sent as ATM over E1s and the SAAL protocol, which is a connection-oriented protocol in the ATM protocol stack, is also supported. With the Xsense surveillance applications, the operators can monitor all the traffic sent though their High Speed Links. In the Call Trace and Protocol Analyser app lications you will be able to view all the parameters within the sent messages, from ATM via SAAL to the upper layer protocols. --------------------------------------------------A shell script is a text file that contains a sequence of commands for a UNIX-ba sed operating system. It's called a shell script because it combines into a "scr ipt" in a single file a sequence of commands that would otherwise have to be pre sented to the system from a keyboard one at a time. The shell is the operating s ystem's command interpreter and the set of commands you use to communicate with the system. A shell script is usually created for command sequences for which a user has a repeated need. You initiate the sequence of commands in the shell scr ipt by simply entering the name of the shell script on a command line.
