Character Education (Cross Curricular) Lesson Plan 5

Lesson Description: Each student will be assigned to a cooperative group consisting oI two or
three members. Each group will be assigned a speciIic character trait. These traits will be
selected Irom the Creating Character Program oI the SaIe & Drug-Free Schools Ior The School
District oI Osceola County, Florida. Students will gather inIormation using the internet, in
addition to resources available in the media center. Students will begin this project by accessing
our class wiki at www.braungrade5.wikispaces.com. On this wiki, they will Iind directions Ior
their project, acceptable websites Ior inIormation and graphics, and a rubric showing what is
expected. Students will Iill in storyboards prior to creating the digital presentation. The students
will work in the computer lab to create digital presentations using Prezi or PowerPoint in order to
share their inIormation with others. Projects should include properly attributed Creative
Commons licensed digital images, clipart, or videos to enhance the presentation. Students, as
well as the teacher, will evaluate all presentations using the rubric included on the wiki. The
Iinal presentations will all be available on our class wiki Ior use by the whole school. Prior to
beginning this project, a permission letter will be sent home with each student explaining the
process, asking Ior an e-mail address (providing an option Ior parents who do not wish Ior their
children to create an on-line presentation), and providing the wiki address.

Technology Integration: Students will spend two days each week in the computer lab working
on their projects. Students will be using the internet Ior research. Students will be using Prezi or
PowerPoint soItware to create their projects. II the students are using PowerPoint to create their
presentation, they will also be using a portable storage device, such as a Ilash drive, to save their
work. They will be using Ilickrcc.bluemountains.net, Copyright-Iree-images.com, or school-
clip-art.com to obtain graphic images. They are encouraged to use digital cameras to provide
original images. In order to share their projects, the students will again be using Prezi, the digital
projector, and the Smartboard.

(Standards provided by SaIe & Drug Free Schools Ior the School District oI Osceola County,
Florida):
