(b) The final results of a measurement depends on two measurements in series each having values of 25 and 50 units with units of 2% and 1%, such that result is sum of both. Determine the error of final result if errors are considered final as (i)Limiting errors. (ii) Standard deviation. 2 (a) Give the comparison between signal generator and function generation. (b) Describe the function of audio frequency square wave generator with a neat block diagram. 3 (a) Draw and explain the working of fundamental suppression distortion analyses. (b) What are the characteristics of spectrum analyses? 4 (a) With the help of a neat diagram explain briefly the main parts of a cathode ray tube. (b) In a CRT the anode to cathode voltage is 2000v. The parallel deflector plates are 1.5 cm long and spaced 5mm. The screen is 50 cm from the centre of the deflection plates. Find the (i) beam speed (ii) the deflection sensitivity of the tube. 5 (a) With a neat block diagram explain the operation of digital read out oscilloscopes. (b) Describe briefly how the measurements of frequency phase angle and voltage can be made with the use of CRO. 6 (a) Explain with the help of circuit, the principle of working of a Q-meter. (b) A circuit consisting of an unknown coil, a resistance and variable capacitor connected in series is tuned to resonance using a Q meter. If the frequency is 450 kHz and the resonating capacitor is set at 250 PF , determine the effective inductance and resistive of unknown coil. The Q meter indicator 105 and the resistance is 0.75 . 7 (a) What is transducer? What are the functions of a transducer in an electronic instrumentation system? (b) Explain the principle of operation of LVDT. 8 (a) Explain the different components of data aquistion system? What is data acquisition system? (b) Explain with a neat diagram the method of measuring linear velocity with the use of moving magnet type transducer. *****

(b) What are the applications of wave analyser? (c) What do you mean by spectrum analysis? 4 (a) Explain briefly the working of a CRO? (b) An electro statically deflected cathode ray tube has plane parallel deflecting plates which are 2.5 cm long and 0.5 cm apart and the distance from their centre to the screen is 20 cm. The electron beam is accelerated by a potential difference of 2500v and is projected centrally between the plates. Calculate the deflection voltage required to cause the beam to deflect through 3 cm and find the corresponding deflection sensitivity of the screen. 5 (a) With a neat block diagram explain the operation of sampling oscilloscope. (b) Give the advantages and disadvantages of storage cathode ray tube. 6 (a) With the help of circuit diagram explain how capacitance can be measured by the use of a schering bridge. (b) What are the types of bridges? Give the applications of all bridges. 7 (a) What is piezoelectric transducer? List the advantages and disadvantages of piezoelectric transducer. (b) Write a short note on Thermistors and sensistors. 8 (a) Explain how capacity type transducers are used for measurement of pressure. (b) Define the terms i) Pressure ii) Temperature. iii) Load cell. (c) Write a short note on automated data acquisition systems. *****

Give the steps which are necessary in performing a calibration? (b) A thermometer is calibrated 100c to 150c. The accuracy is specified within 0.25 percent of instrument span. What is the maximum static error? 2 (a) Describe the working of a Function generator with a neat block diagram. (b) How are signal generators classified? 3 (a) Describe with the help of block diagram the working of a heterodyne wave analyses. (b) What is total harmonic distortion? 4 (a) In a cathods ray tube the electron beam is displaced vertically by a magnetic field of flux density 1.8x10-4 wb/m2. The length of the magnetic field along the tube axis is same as that of the electrostatic deflection plates. The final anode voltage is 800v. Calculate the voltage which should be applied to the y-deflection plates 10mm a part to return the spot back to the centre of the screen. (b) Explain briefly delay line? 5 (a) With a neat block diagram explain the operation of digital storage oscilloscopes. (b) Give the standard specifications of CRO? 6 (a) Draw the general form of an A.C bridge and derive the general equation for its balance. (b) Explain briefly how weatstone bridge is used for measurement of resistance. 7 (a) What is the principle on which a capacitive transducers works? (b) Explain briefly linear variables differential transformer. 8 (a) List the important characteristics of bonded unbounded and semiconductor type strain gauges. (b) Describe with suitable diagram an instrumentation scheme to measure gas pressure inside an enclosed vessel using an LVDT and bellows. *****

(b) Explain the instruments which are used for signal analysis? 4 (a) Describe different types of sweeps used in a CRO. Explain their fields of application. (b) A CRT has an anode voltage of 2kv and parallel deflecting paltes 2 cm long and 5 mm apart the screen is 30 cm from the centre of the plates. Find the input voltage required to deflect the beam through 3 cm. The input voltage is applied to the deflecting plates through amplifiers having an overall gain of 100. 5 (a) Give the comparison between dual trace and dual beam oscilloscopes. (b) What is a probe? Explain briefly high impedance (or 10:1) probe. 6 (a) Explain briefly how inductance can be measured by using a Maxwell bridge. (b) What are the advantages and disadvantages of max wells bridge? 7 (a) What is a strain gauge? Derive the expression for gauge factor. (b) In a linear voltage differential transformer the output voltage is 2.0v at maximum displacement. At a certain load, the deviation from linearity in maximum and it is 0.004v from a straight line through origin. Find the linearity at the given load. 8 (a) Explain briefly how small displacement can be measured by a linear or differential transformers.
