Feel free to begin asking questions. Please remember to check the ask the experts box before sending to ensure that your question is properly queued up for our experts. Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:01]: Q: [8] In SharePoint 2010 using Picture Document Library, is it possible to extract picture meta data being embedded in the picture? It is one the Client requirements that they have meta data stored in EXIF? A: Can be done with a custom solution, please see - http://www.hezser.de/blog/archive/2008/09/04/picture-library-and-exifdata.aspx Darrin Bishop MVP (Expert)[09:01]: Q: [12] What's the best way to communicate to a large government agency the importance/significance of adopting a SP governance position (technical, content, management hierarchy, etc.) ? A: The VS 2010 SP tools will not work for SP 2007. VS2010 SP items and projects are for 2010. You "could" develop against SP 2007 using Visual Studio 2010 without using the SharePoint 2010 projects or SP items. Clayton Cobb MVP (Expert)[09:01]: Clayton is a SharePoint Architect and InfoPath MVP. Clayton has a strong focus on codeless programming, which has led to expertise with tools like InfoPath and SharePoint Designer. Clayton maintains a blog named Claytons SharePoint Madness (http://claytoncobb.wordpress.com) where he focuses heavily on advanced InfoPath and SharePoint Designer solutions. He also has put a heavy emphasis on testing and learning as much as possible about Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 in preparation for their release in calendar year 2010. Clayton is excited about sharing the virtues of the many improvements made in InfoPath 2010. Currently, Clayton is Tech Editing the upcoming SharePoint Designer 2010 Unleashed. Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:01]: Q: [9] My partner and I are not versed in Sharepoint. However, we are running an SBS2008 and have an opportunity to try it. We're hoping to use it as a way to edit Word/Excel documents, to be able to check them out and edit them without accidentally overwriting each other's changes. We currently use Office Live for this, but want to graduate, so to speak. We'd also need to be able to access the data over the Internet and wouldn't necessarily access Sharepoint from a domain-joined workstation. Is all this possible in WSS 3.0? Do we need MOSS? Any red flags in this scenario? A: SharePoint is a good choice for you. You do not need MOSS for simple document management. WSS has all you need as far as doc. mgmt. goes. Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:02]: Q: [11] How easy it could be to transport changes from Dev to Sandbox to Production? I am concerned about the changes being done on Custom Themes, InfoPath Form Changes etc. Any supporting URLs? A: Transporting changes depends on what you are doing - some changes are easy, some are not. InfoPath forms in some scenarios can be difficult. The standard way of transporting changes is .wsp's .. but this needs a much bigger answer .. depends heavily on what you're doing. Serge Tremblay MVP (Expert)[09:02]: Q: [1] i am not able to do anything in my MS office 2007 trial version. my all old document is opening but not able to do any change in it. it shows message that modification is not allowed because the selection is locked. please help me out with it. A: Did you activate your Office version? Is it expired? Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Word Options. Click Resources, and then click Activate. Becky Bertram MVP (Expert)[09:02]: Q: [10] there might be some change occur accedently in MS office, because not even word but excel, powerpoint and other is also not working A: Can you give us more details? Mike Oryszak - MVP (Expert)[09:03]: Q: [2] What is the best pratcice for integrating 3rd party SharePoint tools into a SharePoint 2007 farm? Apart from code access security what other gotchas do I have to follow? Is there a white papaer, blog or etc.. that you can recommend me? A: There are a number of key points. First understand the different types of integration and how the solution is implemented. If the solution will deploy code to your servers be sure to perform both functional and performance testing to make sure it meets your

requirements and is stable in your environment. I think it is also vitally important to keep an active change log with the solutions and customizations you add in so that you can isolate issues quickly and work to resolution. Here are two blog posts I have written in the past around this general topic: <http://nextconnect.blogspot.com/2009/02/sharepoint-customization-policies-and.html> <http://nextconnect.blogspot.com/2009/05/managing-sharepoint-customizations-and.html><BR< a>>

Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:03]: Q: [14] So can we build Web parts using Visual Web Part project template for MOSS 2007? A: No. VS2010 dev tools are intended for SP2010. Robert Bogue [MVP] (Expert)[09:03]: Q: [13] Hi. I am trying to use metadata from a document set in a document "quick part" is that possible? The infomation does not appear in the DIP. I also notice that the metadata from the document set is only associated to the document in the libaray once it has been checked in. A: The DIP has a few different drop downs, one is the server properties. Ideally you'll want to use content types to do this sort of thing. You can find out more from my whitepaper Managing Enterprise Metadata with Content Types (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=101604&clcid=0x409) Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:04]: Q: [15] I understand that MS will release CMIS connector for other EMC player in the market. If you have chance to play with CMIS in beta, I would like to know how it interacts with OpenText (Vignette). Thanks A: CMIS connector has established standard provider/connector interfaces that most major ECM vendors have agreed with. Data can now be brought in/out from other systems. The experience in Opentext is the same as say Documentum. Bill English (Expert)[09:04]: Q: When it comes to Governance, how many of you like the Governance you currently have in place? What do you like about it? What do you wish was better? Darrin Bishop MVP (Expert)[09:05]: Q: [12] What's the best way to communicate to a large government agency the importance/significance of adopting a SP governance position (technical, content, management hierarchy, etc.) ? A: Gov is really important in the Goverment sector. I found that you need to get in touch with the stake holders and let them know how easily in a gov setting with multiple admins the content can get out of control. Look at this link here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/office/sharepointserver/bb507202.aspx<BR< a>>

Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:05]: Q: [17] When I create a content type with a site column which is a lookup only an integer is display when I use it in a Quick Part of a document. Has this been fixed in RTM? Should I be doing it a different way? A: This is strange, this was broken in Beta2, was fixed in later non RTM builds, and is certainly working in RTM - did you try it? Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:05]: Q: [19] Does SP2010 support coulumn level security in lists? A: No Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:05]: @Gauti - For how long have you been using this trial version? Did you install any service pack? Did you run live update? Robert Bogue [MVP] (Expert)[09:05]: Q: [19] Does SP2010 support coulumn level security in lists? A: No it does not. Asif Rehmani MVP (Expert)[09:05]: If possible, please ask your questions in the Question area and not in the Chat area. Shane Young MVP (Expert)[09:06]: Please ask your question using the Ask the Experts button. Darrin Bishop MVP (Expert)[09:06]: Q: [4] Is it possible to use Visual Studio 2010 to develop sharepoint solution for MOSS 2007? A: Not using the Visual Studio 2010 SharePoint Project items or templates. A solution can be developed in note pad and MakeCab. Therefore you could use VS 2010 to create a solution for 2007, just not with the nice new 2010 SP tools. Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:06]: Q: [20] Hello Sahil - Thanks for answering the questions. Appreciate it. With respect to InfoPath 2007 changes deployment, it is always a difficult & challenging task for me to deploy the InfoPath to different machines and on to different domains. Is there a way to publish InfoPath Forms to MOSS in an automated way? A: Atul, search my blog for "deploy infopath forms properly" .. my blog is http://blah.winsmarts.com .. let me know if you don't find the article Robert Bogue [MVP] (Expert)[09:07]: Q: [18] Thanks for the opportunity to ask questions. I have just been given approval to "enhance" our two server (MOSS and SQL) implementation to a typical 5 server farm with an accompanying site hierarch reorganization when content is migrated to the new farm. My main question is that although 2010 is very compelling - am I biting off more than I can chew by jumping right into 2010. My management is somewhat hesitant and I have gone back and forth in the last couple of days. Any ideas? A: There are a number of new features and benefits to SharePoint 2010, it's worth doing the upgrade to SharePoint 2010. I'd start by doing a 2010 upgrade on your existing environment then add servers. Bill English (Expert)[09:08]: Q: [16] Is there a relatively basic how-to either online or in print that would help me to set up WSS 3.0 on SBS 2008? A: You can take a look at a numbe of books on the market. I think Robert Bogue's book would be helpful, as well as some of the online documentation in TechNet. I'll admit that most of the information out there is about MOSS 2007 which blurs the line

sometimes between MOSS and WSS. Does this help? Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:08]: Q: [22] Do we have anything in SPS2010 similar to Google Docs, where multiple people can write their view in parallel and it appears (integrated) almost instantaneously? A: Office Web Apps - in my personal view is much better than Google docs. Shane Young MVP (Expert)[09:09]: Q: [22] Do we have anything in SPS2010 similar to Google Docs, where multiple people can write their view in parallel and it appears (integrated) almost instantaneously? A: Yes if you have SharePoint 2010 and Office 2010 on the clients you can take advantage of the new multi author editing capabilities. I recently used it to work on 190 page document with 4 people. It was awesome! Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:09]: Q: [21] Where can I learn about branding for SharePoint 2010? Thanks. A: @HN - You can follow Randy Drisgill's blog. He is running a series on SP 2010 branding. His blog is at http://blog.drisgill.com<BR< a>>

Robert Bogue [MVP] (Expert)[09:09]: Q: [24] Hi Asif / MVPs, I don't know if you can answer me now, but I am finding some challenges to display the visio graph in my Custom workflows from Visual Studio 2010...I have created a WSP using SPD 2010, this package contains a infopath and a visio file, when I create a Reusable Workflow project I can attach the infopath referencing the urn link for association/initiation (as we normally do), but I am trying to find a reference that explains me how to attach in my feature this Visio file. I couldn't find any reference! Do you know how to do it? A: Visio visualizations are not supported from Visual Studio. Bill English (Expert)[09:10]: Q: [27] What are the doc management differences between Windows Sharepoint Services 3, SP 2010, and MOSS 2007? Just want to make sure that should I deploy WSS 3, I can do what I had asked before: Store, check-out, edit Word Excel documents. A: If all you need to do is those three functions, then WSS is enough. The answer to your larger question about differences between the three products is beyond the scope of a chat session, but can be found in books and online. Would you like to dialog a bit more about this? Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:10]: @HN You can follow Randy Drisgill's blog. He has some nice posts about SP 2010 branding. His blog is at http://blog.drisgill.com<BR< a>> Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:11]: Q: [28] Are there any other soon to be released key components like SQL 2008 R2 that we should wait for before starting to build a new farm? A: SQL 2008 R2 is not required for SP2010, you can go with SQL2008 or SQL2005SP3. Some components such as language packs etc. are not yet available for download though. Asif Rehmani MVP (Expert)[09:11]: Q: [24] Hi Asif / MVPs, I don't know if you can answer me now, but I am finding some challenges to display the visio graph in my Custom workflows from Visual Studio 2010...I have created a WSP using SPD 2010, this package contains a infopath and a visio file, when I create a Reusable Workflow project I can attach the infopath referencing the urn link for association/initiation (as we normally do), but I am trying to find a reference that explains me how to attach in my feature this Visio file. I couldn't find any reference! Do you know how to do it? A: Rob already answered this: Visio visualizations are not supported from Visual Studio. Shane Young MVP (Expert)[09:12]: Q: [33] Sahil - Office Web Apps as you suggested, can it be integrated with SPS 2010, where can I find the study material? A: Office Web Apps are an add on componet to SP2010. Matt McDermott MVP (Expert)[09:12]: Q: [26] If the majority of your branding was done with CSS in MOSS 2007 will you be able use it in 2010 or will it have to completely be redone? A: You should be able to use your master page and CSS when you upgrade. If you are using the out of the box 2007 master pages you shoudl be OK. If you created custom master pages then "It Depends". Most of the time you will want to fix your master page so you can use the new Ribbon control. So to really answer your question, you should be fine with your CSS. Robert Bogue [MVP] (Expert)[09:12]: Q: [35] Hi, I have a MOSS 2007 question. In a single sharepoint farm, we have one internal website. Should I use solution package or should I use deployment wizard tool by Chris O'brian. Why or Why not? Thank you all in advance to the experts. A: You should always be deploying with SharePoint Solution Files. Darrin Bishop MVP (Expert)[09:13]: Q: [25] we want to migrate from vs 2008 to vs 2010 but want to develop sp solutions for moss2007? is it possible? any resource you can point too!!! especially when wspbuilder is still in beta A: Not sure you exactly what you mean to migrate. The SharePoint projects and items in VS 2010 are for SP 2010. They dont work with 2007. You can dev with 2010 when using SP 2007, just not using the built in SP items. Agnes Molnar MVP (Expert)[09:13]: Q: [30] Is there any docs about Organization profiles released? Haven't found anything... A: Unfortunately Organization Profiles documentation is still very poor, even on Technet (http://technet.microsoft.com/enus/library/ee662520%28office.14%29.aspx). I for one, haven't found good documentation about it yet. Shane Young MVP (Expert)[09:13]:

Q: [39] I have a dev environment with server 2008 r2, SQL Server 2008 r2, and SharePoint 2010 RTM (MSDN) running on VMWARE 6.5. No Active Directory, using SQL Authentication and NTLM setup. Everything works except the search crawler which is reporting that it can't connect to the root site. Open up the root site and everything looks ok (both with admin and search account) , tried search account (read only) as well as admin account on crawler. Tried setting BackConnectionHostNames as well as 2nd microsoft recommended method DisableLoopBackCheck.... Neither Helped. Any other ideas? A: For SharePoint 2010 Active Directory is required for multi server farms. Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:13]: Q: [32] Does SP2010 support workflows for Surveys? A: @Salman - SP 2010 supports workflow for lists. Survey is just another list. You can use workflow with surveys. Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:13]: Q: [38] Are SP2010 workflows able to set granual security on tasks? I mean, if a workflow task is assigned to someone... Is security set for the task so that only that person can edit it? A: Security inheritance on the task list item is not broken automatically .. you can do it via a custom task form, or by breaking inheritance during task creation yourself. Asif Rehmani MVP (Expert)[09:13]: Q: [29] Will SP2010 be able to support alerts on survey's where users can only edit their own submissions? A: I believe the Survey functionality has not changed from the previous version (2007) Shane Young MVP (Expert)[09:14]: Q: [41] Where can I find more information about Office Web Apps? Is this part of the new "docs.com?" A: http://blogs.msdn.com/officewebapps/ This is the link to the teams blog for Office Web Apps Mike Oryszak - MVP (Expert)[09:14]: Q: [37] A question to Mike Oryszak - A follow up on your answer to my question i.e. Q.2. When you say "keep an active change log with the solutions and customizations you added", how do I do that?i A: Your change log can be informal, on a sheet of paper, or you can create a simple tracking list that tracks things like what it is, where it was installed, when it was installed, etc. Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:15]: Q: [23] Have a look at this link please. http://www.walkersoftware.com/programming/181/use-vs-2010-to-create-wssmoss-2007webparts/ I couldn't try it yet. Need your expert opinion. Can we do that like this? A: @Salman - This article shows the creation of skeleton web part without any meaninful information. Yes, creating web parts in VS 2010 is easy. VS 2010 supports SharePoint 2010 development and creating solutions for SharePoint is easy. Bill English (Expert)[09:16]: Q: [43] How to archive list items (along with their workflow items intact) ? Possible? In MOSS 2007, List item relationship breaks when I do the archiving? A: Perhaps other MVPs on this chat can confirm/deny, but I don't think that workflows and the tasks within a workflow are connected to a document when it is moved to another location. I think the architecture in 2007 persists in 2010. Asif Rehmani MVP (Expert)[09:17]: Q: [46] If there posible to have installed SharePoint Designer 2007 and SharePoint designer 2010x64, is to be able to connect to moss 2007 and 2010 from the same workstation. A: Yes, you can have SPD 2007 and SPD 2010 installed on the same machine. Be sure to install SPD 2007 first then install SPD 2010 Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:17]: Q: [40] In MOSS 2007, I faced an issue to highlight the clicked document library or list from the left navigation area. Is it possible in SPS 2010? A: You can do this using class = 'DataBinder.Eval(Condition?'selected':'notselected') syntax .. your condition will be .. SiteNode.Url.ToLower().Equals(Request.Url.LocalPath) <-- written purely out of memory but I'm pretty sure it'll work Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:17]: @Nurit - What is the error that you get? Did you create the top level site collection in SharePoint? If you have not created the top level site collection and you are trying to access a URL, you will get an error "Internet address blah blah is not valid". I blogged about this issue a while ago. Here is the link: http://vspug.com/ssa/2010/03/15/infopath2010-cannot-connect-to-sharepoint-2010/ Shane Young MVP (Expert)[09:18]: Q: [48] Are there any specific things to "watch out" for when settin up SQL mirroring in 2010? A: Nope. SharePoint 2010 does even understand the concept of failover databases in 2010. Mike Oryszak - MVP (Expert)[09:18]: Q: [34] I understand that "My Links" - "My SharePoint Sites" is not available in SharePoint 2010. What's alternative to help users (members of sites in multiple site collections) to browse to their site. In MOSS 2007, this functionality works so well. Thanks. A: SharePoint 2010 still has the "Membership" feature which should show all of the sites a user is in the "Members" group for. In addition you can work with the Search API to pull together a list of sites they have access to by specifying the Content Class = SPS_Sites. Becky Bertram MVP (Expert)[09:18]: Q: [42] we had this problem is moss2007 where a dll was shared b/w three solutions, if we retract one of the solution it removes the dll and breaks ohter two solutions - any improvments in SP2010 A: I don't believe this is any different in SharePoint 2010. In the kind of scenario you're describing, it sometimes makes sense to create a Solution Package that contains just the common dll. Then you let your other three solutions use that one dll, and deploy each of those solution packages separately, after you deployed that first soution package. In that scenario you'd have to explicitly retract the common solution package to remove it. Robert Bogue [MVP] (Expert)[09:19]: Q: [49] Is there an easy way in sp2010 to do cross site collection navigation? A: you would have to write a custom navigation provider. Bill English (Expert)[09:19]:

Q: [50] Where can we find some information about deployment procedures from Dev -> Test -> Production, like how to make sure that you have everything covered in the migration because the backup and restore procedure from one server to another is a little buggy A: Are you asking about a deployment process or an upgrade process? They are two different processes. Becky Bertram MVP (Expert)[09:19]: Q: [49] Is there an easy way in sp2010 to do cross site collection navigation? A: No, unfortunately this is still the same story as in SharePoint 2007. You have some choices: Asif Rehmani MVP (Expert)[09:19]: jayrwren - please ask your questions in the questions area so the transcript of this chat can have all this info in there Shane Young MVP (Expert)[09:19]: Q: [51] In SP2010, is it still the case that an entire site cannot be undeleted as it was in 2007? A: There is no site level recycle bin in 2010. Have you seen the IT undelete tool on http://www.codeplex.com/governance Robert Bogue [MVP] (Expert)[09:20]: Q: [53] I'm also a TFS user. When it comes to "testing SharePoint" my first thought is to use TFS2010 and all it's new testing features. Is there guidance on the dev lifecycle of a SharePoint 2010 dev using VSTS/TFS2010? A: There is guidance coming. In the short term look at what we're doing with p&p SPG at www.codeplex.com/spg. application lifecycle management documentation is planned. Agnes Molnar MVP (Expert)[09:20]: Q: [41] Where can I find more information about Office Web Apps? Is this part of the new "docs.com?" A: Office Web Apps can be installed as a separated component for SharePoint 2010. Here is the blog of the Office Web Apps Team: http://blogs.msdn.com/officewebapps/, and I really like the UK SharePoint Team's blog as well: http://blogs.msdn.com/uksharepoint/archive/2009/11/17/installing-sharepoint-server-2010-beta-2-on-a-single-machine.aspx Don't forget to enable the proper features on your sites. Matt McDermott MVP (Expert)[09:20]: Q: [52] I'm new to sharepoint. What is the best way to get started developing solutions using sharepoint? Where is all the great documentation? A: I would suggest you start at http://www.mssharepointdeveloper.com. There are a bunch of lessons and links to places to learn SharePoint development. Becky Bertram MVP (Expert)[09:20]: Sorry... didn't get the whole answer out about cross site collection navigation. I was going to say that you could use an XML site map provider, or create a custom site map provider, or even develop a custom Service App that serves as your data source across site collections. Mike Oryszak - MVP (Expert)[09:21]: Q: [55] Mike - Thank you for answering my question. Much appreciated. A: Your welcome! Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:21]: Q: [57] Awesome Sahil. You are too good and too fast. Thanks!! How easy is it to move sites between Site Collection? Do we have an automated way? (MOSS 2007 Question) A: stsadm -import / export .. thank you! Serge Tremblay MVP (Expert)[09:22]: Q: [31] Is the Productivity Hub going to have new SP2010 content right away? A: I have not seen the 2010 version. Asif Rehmani MVP (Expert)[09:22]: Nurit, make sure your managed paths are setup properly Agnes Molnar MVP (Expert)[09:22]: Q: [56] Hi MVPs, Is there a bug in the Beta in the Basic Search template? Everytime I try to search something I get this error: "Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Microsoft SharePoint Foundationcompatible HTML editor such as Microsoft SharePoint Designer. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator.". I opened the page in SPD 2010 and in fact there is an error there. Is there a easy workaround for that without creating a new Search Form? A: Probably you didn't deployed Search Service Application on your farm, or forgot to associate it to this Web Application. Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:22]: @Nurit - Are you trying to create a top level site collection? SharePoint does not list "." in the URL drop down. It shows a front slash "/" which stands for a top level site. You won't see it listed in the drop down if a top level site collection already exists. You will have to create a new web application and then create a top level site collection in that web application. Remember you can only create one top level site collection per web application. Robert Bogue [MVP] (Expert)[09:22]: Q: [36] Sahil - we want to migrate from vs 2008 to vs 2010 but want to develop sp solutions for moss2007? is it possible? any resource you can point too!!! especially when wspbuilder is still in beta A: You should be using Visual Studio 2008 to develop against MOSS 2007 right now. Clayton Cobb MVP (Expert)[09:22]: Q: [45] @salman: are you sure about surveys & workflows? it did not work that way in MOSS... A: @salman, can you explain in detail what you're asking? Yes, we can add workflows to survey items. What part are you saying did not work in MOSS? Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:23]: Q: [58] I have some processes that are FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compliant that I need to recreate into Sp2010... Is Sp2010 OOB compliant with 21 CFR Part 11? Or a thirst party is necessary? A: SP2010 has huge improvements when it comes to ECM. The formal records mgmt. story is not baked yet. 21 CFR Part 11 is implementable in SP2010, but not OOTB. I am not aware of any third party tools that will acheive this. Becky Bertram MVP (Expert)[09:23]: Q: [54] How we would create wsp if we use vs 2010 to develop solutions for SP 2007? A: A WSP file is actually just a CAB file. You can use the MakeCab.exe tool to compile a WSP package. This is how many people have "hand coded" their WSP solutions in Visual Studio 2008. Take a look at this article to show how you could do it: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa543741.aspx.

Clayton Cobb MVP (Expert)[09:24]: Q: [59] I have another question. When I try to create a site collection in SP 2010, I only see subsites (for example, /sites and /personal) listed in the URL drop down. I don't see "." in the drop down. I want to create a root site collection. How can I do that? A: That means you already have a root site collection. Did you use the configuration wizard initially when setting up your farm? Bill English (Expert)[09:25]: Q: [60] on the topic of deployment of code and customizations from Dev -> Test -> Prod, what is the best way to get prod CONTENT back down into Test and Dev? Can someone point to any good guidance or resources here? A: If you're talking just about content, then use a third-party tool that do third party migrations, such as AvePoint or MetaLogix. These will migrate the content without the structure. If you want to move the structure around the content too, then I would suggest getting a copy of the database and attach it to the test environment. In this scenario, I recommend that the test environment is physically cabled separatly from your production environment. Be sure that you get any metadata back to the test environment. Does this help?

Robert Bogue [MVP] (Expert)[09:25]: Q: [61] In SP2010, is it possible to move lists between sites (and still keep the metadata)? I know you can create a list template /w content and recreate it on a different site, but you lose the metadata when you do so. A: They can be moved. there are a few different approached. Saving the list as a template with content will move metadata. Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:25]: Q: [62] Installed a MOSS 2007 SP2 and trying to create a new server farm, when I specify the configuration database setting i received failed to connect to the database - firewall off on SQL server and new SharePoint server. SQL server I am connecting to is SQL server 2008 . Are we missing a step? A: Please see the logs and find out what the exact error message is .. Bill Vaughn has an excellent article on diagnosing SQL Server connectivity issues. Sorry couldn't be of more help there. Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:25]: Just downloading and installing Office 2010 will not activate the software on your machine. You have to activate it yourself. To activate Office 2010, open Word. Click on File tab and select Help. Click "Change Product Key" link and enter the key that you downloaded with the program. Restart Office. You will be prompted to activate your copy. Activate it and enjoy Office 2010. Becky Bertram MVP (Expert)[09:25]: Q: [49] Is there an easy way in sp2010 to do cross site collection navigation? A: No, unfortunately this is still the same story as in SharePoint 2007. You have some choices: you could use an XML site map provider, or create a custom site map provider, or even develop a custom Service App that serves as your data source across site collections. Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:25]: Q: [63] I downloaded Office 2010 Beta some time ago. I installed it recently. I don't know if it is already activated on my machine or not and if not how to activate it. I get an error when i try to access Office 2010 programs like Access from SharePoint 2010. Please advise! A: Just downloading and installing Office 2010 will not activate the software on your machine. You have to activate it yourself. To activate Office 2010, open Word. Click on File tab and select Help. Click "Change Product Key" link and enter the key that you downloaded with the program. Restart Office. You will be prompted to activate your copy. Activate it and enjoy Office 2010. Clayton Cobb MVP (Expert)[09:26]: Q: [47] I have installed SharePoint 2010 and InfoPath 2010 but when I create a form that tries to connect to SharePoint, I get an error. InfoPath does not seem to find SharePoint. I have tried everything. Please help! A: @Nurit with your InfoPath 2010 error, how exactly are you creating the form and trying to connect? You can create a list, go to the List tab of the ribbon, and click "customize list form" to do a new list form. Or, you can create a new actual form template for a form library by opening InfoPath 2010 File (backstage) > New > (pick a 2010 form type). Then, you can publish the form, and you must put in the URL to your site. How exactly are you doing it? Clayton Cobb MVP (Expert)[09:27]: Q: [65] @salman: In MOSS Surveys and workflows did not work. The workflow would never start. It wasn't apparent though as SharePoint Designer would let you create the workflow, but there was something "funny" about surveys not being a standard "list" That would be wonderful if this functionality works properly in 2010 A: @Monty I just created a workflow on a Survey in SP2010 through SPD2010, and it worked. I assigned a task, and this task had GRANULATED permissions on the assignee, which is a great new thing. Clayton Cobb MVP (Expert)[09:28]: Q: [68] @Saif, The problem is, when I attach a workflow with survey and try to start it, it fails. Have a look at it. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926370. Did MSFT resolve this issue in SP2010? A: @Salman I just created one a few minutes ago, and it worked. Matt McDermott MVP (Expert)[09:28]: Q: [66] Is SP 2010 is more expensive(License) than MOSS 2007, I blieve it would be but how much - any idea? A: The pricing for SharePoint 2010 has not been released yet. It will depend on many factors that your Licensing Rep (LAR) will be better equipt to help you with. Serge Tremblay MVP (Expert)[09:28]: Q: [64] Asking this question again - How to archive list items (along with their workflow items intact) ? Possible? In MOSS 2007, List item relationship breaks when I do the archiving? A: There are 3rd party tools for archiving in 2007, not sure if they keep the workflow history. Shane Young MVP (Expert)[09:28]:

Q: [67] Should I install all updates for SP when they are released or only the service packs? I was once told to only do the infrastructure updates if I had the same errors. What do you recommend? A: Generally the Service Packs are a must and the cumulative updates are optional. But the October 2009 CU did have some fixes for stsadm -o upgradecheck that made it nice to have. Bill English (Expert)[09:28]: Q: [67] Should I install all updates for SP when they are released or only the service packs? I was once told to only do the infrastructure updates if I had the same errors. What do you recommend? A: You should test all updates before installing them on a test envirionment. Your update schedule should be tied more to your overall change management procedures than to release dates from Microsoft. Clayton Cobb MVP (Expert)[09:29]: Q: [71] What is official release date for sp 2010? A: May 12th Robert Bogue [MVP] (Expert)[09:29]: Q: [69] Is it possible to approve/reject a workflow item directly from web-enabled InfoPath Form? Idea is to display the InfoPath Form to the approver and then approve the form directly without opening the workflow task? Possible? A: It would require code to programatically approve/reject a task. Technically it's possible but the deployment of the InfoPath form would be hard... You could however, update the Task/Edit form and have IP make a call with parameters to that page. Which would accomplish the same thing easier. Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:30]: Q: [68] @Saif, The problem is, when I attach a workflow with survey and try to start it, it fails. Have a look at it. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926370. Did MSFT resolve this issue in SP2010? A: Yes. I have seen people screaming about this problem in forums. I am right now writing a chapter about surveys in SP 2010. I haven't tried it yet but my next goal is to try workflow with survey in 2010. Stay tuned to my blog Salman! Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:32]: Q: [72] I'm having trouble figuring out the relationship between Exchange/Outlook and SharePoint. It seems to me that email needs to fall under ECM just like any other file type (groups need to share email relevant to a project rather than have it silo-ed in someone's Inbox), but Outlook doesn't really offer integration with SharePoint specific to email. For MOSS, third-party components were required. What's the deal? Has this story changed at all with SharePoint 2010? A: rhelmer - SP2010 Email/Content Organizer is a huge improvement over SP2007, of course the exact solution depends on speciically what you are trying to accomplish. Can you please elaborate more? Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:32]: Q: [74] I read somewhere that 40 GB is required to install SharePoint 2010. If after installing SharePoint, we feel a need to install more software but there is no space, what can we do? can we increase the SharePoint space? By the way, I am using Virtual Machine right now. I tried virtual box earlier and although someone told me it was possible to increase the space, I couldn't find a way to do it. Could someone help? A: You mean the hard disk space! Yes, you can increase the hard disk space. If you are using VMware, go to Virtual machine settings and use "Expand Disk Capacity" tool (select it from Utilities drop down) to expand the disk capacity. Next, start your virtual machine and open "Server Manager" after your OS has booted. Expand "Storage" node. Select "Disk Management". You will see an unallocated partition. Right-click the first allocated partition and select "Extend Volume". This will increase your hard disk space and you will be able to install more software along side SharePoint 2010. Clayton Cobb MVP (Expert)[09:33]: Q: [76] If I have a site column (Text) and use it in a couple of diffenent content types is there a way in 2010 for each content type to have a different value as default? I currently use workflows to populate this value after the file is saved to the library. A: Columns can be modified locally in a list/library separate from the site-level content type Melissa Travers MS (Expert)[09:33]: We are about half way through our chat. If you have questions please use the Ask the Experts button and submit them for our MVPs to answer Shane Young MVP (Expert)[09:34]: Q: [77] I have beta2 installed. Can I upgrade to RTM ? A: Nope Clayton Cobb MVP (Expert)[09:34]: Q: [77] I have beta2 installed. Can I upgrade to RTM ? A: No, there is no upgrade path from pre-release to RTM. It is blocked by code Serge Tremblay MVP (Expert)[09:35]: A: That would require a custom event handler Clayton Cobb MVP (Expert)[09:35]: Q: [79] I am looking for some help. not sure if ii am in the right place. I am looking for a driver for my web cam. i can't find the make or model number, but have the code from the device manager usb\vid_05a9&Pid_8519&Rev_0100&Ml_00 A: Is it a SharePoint web cam? Robert Bogue [MVP] (Expert)[09:35]: Q:If I have a site column (Text) and use it in a couple of diffenent content types is there a way in 2010 for each content type to have a different value as default? I currently use workflows to populate this value after the file is saved to the library. A: You can set custom metadata by location so you can set default values by location. Serge Tremblay MVP (Expert)[09:35]: Q: [75] Thanks Serge. Another question related to Picture Library - Is it possible to set policy (Length, Width, Height) of an image while end user upload a picture, let system reset it based on the policy/settings? Possible? A: That would require a custom event handler. Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:35]: Q: [78] I have two applications, one is InfoPath 2007 app and the other is a SharePOint 2007 app. I am trying to consume a WCF service in my apps. I can add it as a web reference without issues but when i run the apps, I get errors. Why?

A: Which version of VS are you using? First thing, WCF service should be added as a web service reference, not as a web reference. If you will add it as a web reference, there will be compatibility issues and you will get errors. If you are using VS 2005, you won't see the "Add service reference" link. You will have to install .NET framework 3.0, VS 2005 Orcas extensions and .NET framework 3.0 SP1. Orcas extensions are not supported by MS anymore and you cannot download them from MS site. You can download them from other non-MS sites though. After you have installed these software, you will be able to consume WCF service in your apps. Bill English (Expert)[09:36]: Q: [83] I created a blog site and I found a bug where unpublished comments were appearing in public views. Was this addressed in RTM? A: Just curious - did you have approvals turned on? If so, even though the item isn't approved, it can still appear in some views if the one viewing the content has permissions to the item. Shane Young MVP (Expert)[09:37]: Q: [84] With SP2010 is there an procedure on how to move a sharepoint farm from one SQL database server or server/instance to another? I know with 2007 it was tricky A: Nothing written yet but it will be the same basic steps. Do you want to move your Beta server? I would recommend starting over on RTM. Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:37]: Q: [85] Can I create an InfoPath browser-enabled form programmatically? I am trying this with IP 2007 but without any success. Is it even possible? A: Yes this is definitely possible. It's a complicated process. I will give you some basic guidelines here. Unzip .xsn file and take the template.xml and save it separately. Use it as a parent file and create replica copies from this file. Use CopyTo() function of SPListItem object to create a copy. Once you have created a copy, you can use XmlDocument() and CreateNavigator() to update the XML of the new form. If you need more information, send me an email at info@sharepoint2007tips.com with subject line "mvp chat help". Clayton Cobb MVP (Expert)[09:38]: Q: [82] Hello Clayton, thanks for picking up the question. I have web enabled InfoPath Forms and workflows are associated with it. When an employee submits their travel request for example, workflow (custom) sends an email to supervisor. Supervisor then clicks to open the InfoPath Form (on web-browser and not on InfoPath client) and there I want to give flexibility to the Supervisor to Approve/Reject directly from the InfoPath Form. Approval/Rejection should eventually trigger workflow accordingly. Possible? A: Yes, I do this all the time, but I do without utilizing the built-in OOTB workflow tasks. I add custom buttons to my forms almost every one of them - with the ability to Approve, Reject, Close, and other things. Under these buttons, I put custom actions (no code, just rules) that set fields to certain values and then submit. I use conditional formatting to hide these buttons when a nonapprover is logged in. In 2010, this story is even better, because we can use InfoPath Form Web Parts to create mashup pages where the manager doesn't even have to go into the form, but rather can go to a custom page with all the pending items list in one web part by name, and in another web part, you see the form associated with the item name. Then, you can click the buttons interactively within the form web part. It's amazing, and I have a lot of demos doing stuff like this - just need to get them shown in vids and on my blog. Bill English (Expert)[09:38]: Q: [86] How to restore a deleted list view? A: I don't think this is possible. I'm sorry. Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:40]: Q: [87] I cannot connect to SharePoint from my InfoPath app. Both are 2010 versions. A: It seems you have not yet created top level site collection in SharePoint. Lots of people are asking this question in forums these days. Create a top level site collection and then try again. It will work. Becky Bertram MVP (Expert)[09:41]: Q: [88] What are the improvements in content deployment process. I understand SQL snapshots have been added A: Take a look at this blog post to see how the Deployment Process works in SharePoint 2010: http://blog.beckybertram.com/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=83. Hopefully this will answer some of your questions. Robert Bogue [MVP] (Expert)[09:41]: Q: [90] POssible to copy list views from one list to another? A: Programatically, yes. Through the UI. No. Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:41]: Q: [92] I cannot find content query web part in SP 2010. I have made sure enterprise feature is enabled. A: Enable "Search Server Web Parts" feature in site collection features. You will find content query web part in "Content Rollup" category. Darrin Bishop MVP (Expert)[09:41]: Q: We all have discussed this error between ourselves and no one has run across this error. At least check the properties ont eh SQL Server instance to verify that the SQL Server instance is avail. Check the logs both SharePoint and the setup logs. Unfortunatly you will need to look at the logs to check for any errors. Right now collectively we dont have an answer for this particular error message and it would take some time and research to review your specific issue. Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:42]: Q: [93] Does anyone have a link of 2010 IW demo VM? I see several links on the net, i dont which one to download. which one is the correct link? A: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0c51819b-3d40-435c-a103-a5481fe0a0d2&displaylang=en Download contains two virtual machines for evaluating and demonstrating Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010. Clayton Cobb MVP (Expert)[09:44]: Q: [91] Or Possible to Save a view and then later attach it (if deleted by mistake)? A: @Atul This is not doable in SharePoint without custom code. Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:44]:

Q: [95] I want to install SharePoint 2010. I think my machine is 64-bit compatible but I am not sure. How can I check? Does Microsoft provide a tool for this? A: You can use this tool: http://download3.vmware.com/software/wkst/VMware-guest64check-6.0.0-45731.exe It will tell you if your machine is compatible or not. Serge Tremblay MVP (Expert)[09:45]: Q: [96] Possible to upgrade directly from WSS2.0 to SPS 2010? A: No not possible view the supported upgrade methods http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262747(office.14).aspx Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:46]: Q: [99] I have just started configuring search in SP 2010. Can we create our own dictionaries in SP 2010? A: Yes you can create your own dictionaries. Robert Bogue [MVP] (Expert)[09:46]: Q: [89] Q76 followup. I am using multiple content types in the same library, so the location is the same. Different documents need different values for the column. Is that possible? A: So you want a different default for a field by content type -- right? But all of the content types use the same field. You can probably play some games by using content organizer and the by location metadata at the same time. However, I've not seen this pattern used yet. Why do you need the same column to have different default values for different content types? Becky Bertram MVP (Expert)[09:48]: Q: [97] Can I use Content Query Webpart to read information from termstore or enterprise content types A: You can use CAML to retrieve Managed Metadata Field values, so I would assume that means you could modify the Content Query Web Part to do the same: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff625182(office.14).aspx. Matt McDermott MVP (Expert)[09:48]: Q: [94] Related to people search - Want to restrict people search to be done within a site (not all the sites deployed on the MOSS), possible to restrict? A: The people search pulls the data from the My Site Host, not the site collection. You can create a search scope to limit the results based on People metadata values. You cannot however secure the people search beyond changing the default reader group. If you are in a multitennant scenario it can be complicated. Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:49]: Q: [100] I recently applied SP2 but now my InfoPath fails. I get "format of the canary has been tampered with for form XXXX by the end user" or "security validation for this form is invalid". A: Exact cause is not known but you can follow these hints. It might resolve your issue. 1. Replace Microsoft.Office.InfoPath.Server.dll with the version that was working before you installed the SP. 2. Replace core.js with a newer version (worked for one user who reported this in my user group forum). Core.js is located in SystemDrive:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\INC\ Becky Bertram MVP (Expert)[09:50]: Q: [98] Whats the object model to read information from termstore or enterprise content types A: Here's the API for the Managed Metadata service: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee556337(office.14).aspx Melissa Travers MS (Expert)[09:50]: We have about 5 minutes left in this morning's chat. If you have any last minute questions, please submit them asap. The Experts will answer as many questions as they can in the time remaining. Thanks! Matt McDermott MVP (Expert)[09:51]: Q: [101] The new organization view in MySites within SharePoint 2010 are big hits in our organization. Is there a view that will let a user see the chart for the whole organization (like the old manual Visio chards), not just based on a specific individual? A: No, sadly there is not. But all the data is there! You can build it. Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:52]: Q: [103] I am a novice. I hear a lot about BCS in 2010. what is it for? A: BCS stands for Business connectivity services. You can use BCS to connect to other data sources and pull and show information in SharePoint. BCS offers an easy way to pull data from external data sources. Unlike BDC in 2007, BCS can write back to the external data source. You can learn more about BCS on the following site: http://blogs.msdn.com/bcs/ Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:53]: Q: [105] Can we develop custom apps for tagging by using the metadata OM in SP 2010? A: Yes Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:53]: Q: [102] Sahil--thank you. We have a document management product currently, but are very interested in SharePoint as an alternative. One big question mark is how to integrate email--currently, we do it as a plug-in that allows drag-and-drop to specific folders--client/matter or project folders, of which there are thousands (users can pick only the projects on which they work). However, this destabilizes Outlook and causes performance issues. SharePoint is attractive in that the necessary client "plug-in" is already built into Office... but this doesn't seem to be the case for Outlook--i.e., you can't drag-and-drop an email or group of email messages directly into a specific SharePoint project site/folder without a third party product, as I understand it (I've read it goes in as an .eml file?). I really don't want to go down the third party product route again if it can be avoided, and it seems like Outlook--like the other Office apps--should integrate directly for this purpose. Any change for SP 2010? A: Rhelmer - the improvement in SP2010 around this scenario is the document/content organizer feature. There is no drag drop like the thirdparty product you are referring to in 2010. However, the content organizer with back-end exchange rules, plus the

massively improved scalability/performance story in SP2010 might have your solution .. I'd say it is worth looking into, and given that this non-drag drop solution is more transparent, it might be a better solution for end users in the long run. Clayton Cobb MVP (Expert)[09:55]: Q: [107] Can we create pop-up messages in InfoPath 2010? It was not possible in IP 2007. A: Popup _are_ possible in IP07, but only with rich client forms. This is the same in 2010. Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:56]: Q: [107] Can we create pop-up messages in InfoPath 2010? It was not possible in IP 2007. A: I haven't tried it in IP 2010 but it was possible in IP 2007 of course not out of the box but it was possible. I did it by modifying FormServer.aspx page and using xmlviewwebpart. Shane Young MVP (Expert)[09:57]: Q: [108] When open a secured website in non-ssl based SPS2007, ti works. If SPS is SSL based, then it doesn't? What changes are required to be done and where? A: Have you confgured your alternate access mappings? Did you install an SSL certificate on the web application? Melissa Travers MS (Expert)[09:57]: We are going to wrap up momentarily and try to answer some questions in the que. We apologize if we do not get to answer your question, but you will have an opportunity to ask more questions during our chat tomorrow! Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:57]: Q: [106] Sahil--just as a follow-up, maybe there is a better way to keep all matter/project-related email for all project team members kept in SharePoint than the drag-and-drop approach from Outlook? There is a records management aspect to this as well, and in our industry (legal), a need to have a "complete" file for a given matter--in other words, all email to and from relevant to the matter needs to be available in the client file (but not to be managed as a record until later). A: Right, I know what you mean. With emails because the subjects repeat a simple drag drop won't work because you accidentally overwrite emails, the attachments don't work very well, the metadata doesn't seperate very well - unless you use that third party product that I think I know which one you're talking about. I believe you have to pair this with content organizer in SP2010 and you should have a good solution. Sahil Malik (Expert)[09:58]: Q: [109] Sahil--could you point me to more information about the content organizer feature? Is this something based around keywords? We'd really need something that is organized by users by client/matter, of which there are thousands, but at most only a few dozen for any given user at one time. A: Content Organizer allows you to specify rules and gives you a Drop off library, given the rules content is automatically routed to the appropriate destination .. also it does things like create folders after XXX items, prevent overwrites, duplication etc. .. worth checking out I think. Robert Bogue [MVP] (Expert)[09:59]: Q: [104] Robert Bogue [MVP] - For grouping in the view. We have 4 documents of type1, 3 of type2 and 6 of type3. Each document is its own content type. The user wants to see the documents grouped by type 1,2 and 3. A: You can turn on Metadata navigation - Library Settings - Metadata navigation settings. Content type isn't (as you've noticed) available for grouping. Shane Young MVP (Expert)[09:59]: Q: [111] hi Shane - Yes. SSL Is applied on IIS and Alternate Access Mapping is set. A: What happens when you try to browse the site? That is all you should have to do. Chat is about to end so you can ping me on Twitter if you want to follow up. @shanescows Saifullah Shafiq MVP (Expert)[09:59]: Q: [110] My workflow sometimes gets locked. I see thread locked message in logs. A: Does it happen in multi server/farm environment? There is no known solution for this problem but it happens where there are multiple front ends. I haven't seen any solution to this problem as yet. Melissa Travers MS (Expert)[10:00]: Well that wraps things up for our SharePoint Chat.
