Preface
The SANscreen Enterprise Reporting for Capacity Manager User Guide is intended to provide your enterprise with a way to benefit from the capacity data that is discovered and stored in SANscreen by increasing the collaboration between groups and departments within your organization. Senior management, business unit managers and application managers all have has different requirements and needs for capacity report information. They each want interactive reports that can be easily accessed through a dashboard GUI, as well as a variety of ways to save and publish the reports they either modify or create.. SANscreen Enterprise Reporting for Capacity Manager offers the management and distribution of capacity reports individually or through the dashboards by integrating with SANscreen Data Warehouse and manipulating the data it has extracted from the SANscreen database.

Product Name Description
Service Insight
Offers visibility into your SAN environment, including host-to-storage access paths, storage availability and change management. Enables risk-free migrations and real-time monitoring of storage services. Capacity Manager manages the end-to-end resource order and allocation process to allow companies to accelerate application provisioning, manage resource reservations and forecast based on past trends and future demand, enabling educated capacity management decisions. Enables virtual machine to array path visibility for organizations deploying VMware ESX technology combined with VMware Virtual Center. Uses SAN traffic data to reclaim underutilized resources, manage tiers, identify multipath risks and troubleshoot ongoing performance bottlenecks. Discovers, collects, and maintains performance information measured by critical array metrics throughout the SAN. Provides a centralized reports portal to support viewing critical information from the data warehouse in capacity-related reports such as chargeback, consumption analysis, capacity planning, purchasing, storage tier analysis, storage service catalogs, trending, and historical usage. Provides a centralized reports portal to support viewing critical information from the data warehouse to facilitate operational, strategic, and tactical storage-related decisions.

Chapter 1 Overview
1.1 Overview
SANscreen Enterprise Reporting for Capacity Manager provides you with the ability to view summary reports and to generate ad hoc customized reports based on the summary data that appear in reporting snapshots, lists and graphs available on the SANscreen Reporting Connection dashboards, including: CM Capacity Forecast CM _ Cost Accounting CM Tiers CM Port Forecast Violations
You can create new reports at any time with refreshed data and publish them to other users. No special system build or system reboot is necessary. The ad hoc reporting capabilities let you filter, summarize and edit existing capacity reports.
NOTE: Access to the SANscreen Reporting Connection is defined by roles, which are explained in that user guide.
The data for these reports are built and scheduled from the SANscreen Data Warehouse. See the SANscreen Data Warehouse User Guide and the dynamic DB Schema on the Data Warehouse portal for more information.
1.1.1.1 Application Manager This user manages only hosts and would like to get information on the hosts in the network to find out: 1. For managed hosts what is the usable capacity each host can access? 2. Are there any outstanding violations that are relevant to managed applications? 3. For each of the managed hosts, can he see information about its HBA, switch connectivity and speed? This is information that improves communication with the SAN team. 4. What volumes are accessed by managed hosts, and what is their capacity? What is their redundancy? 1.1.1.2 Storage Manager This user manages the storage environment or a subset of the environment and would like to get information on the following: 1. Status of available capacity and ports in managed data centers. This is information that can assist and drive purchase decisions. 2. Prioritization of storage service violations according to application priority.

3. Inventory summary list, including: number of fabrics, number of hosts, number of arrays, number of tapes, number of switch devices, number of available switch ports, number of connected switch ports and switch port utilization. 4. A summary of the current storage utilization showing: a. b. c. d. e. f. g. Total array capacity Total configured volume capacity Total volume allocated capacity Total masked Total replication Total uncarved raw capacity Storage utilization
5. Top 10 arrays and their allocation utilization. 6. Service status, including: a. Number of paths b. Total Accessed Capacity c. Number of violations and the percentage of the entire capacity that is under violation.
1.3 Prerequisites
The following environment is necessary to provide optimum use of SANscreen Enterprise Reporting for Capacity Manager: SANscreen version 5.1 Data Warehouse 5.1 SANscreen Reporting 2.0
This user guide does not describe how to use the SANscreen Reporting Connection portal, which is based on Cognos technology. A link to Cognos documentation is available on that portaljust click the question mark to the right of the Launch menu:
The Cognos documentation can also be accessed in your Start menu after you have installed SANscreen Reporting.

The dashboard shows at a glance where there are potentially problematic areas. When there are fewer than four months remaining, the intersection of the tier and data center is shaded in red, signaling a need for attention. NOTE: Clicking on any part of the charttier, data center, or value automatically refreshes the rest of the dashboard portlets to match the outcome signaled by that attribute or intersection.
Note that 99.1 is white with grayed- out text.
