URL: http://newageislam.com/NewAgeIslamIslamicWorldNews_1.aspx?ArticleID=5898 ----------Avoid Course of Collision and Chaos, Makkah imam tells Muslims By BADEA ABU AL-NAJA JEDDAH, ARAB NEWS, Nov 12, 2011: Imam of the Grand Mosque Sheikh Abdul Rahman A l-Sudais on Friday urged leaders and people of Islamic countries to fulfill thei r duty of maintaining security and stability knowing fully well that the only op tion before them is to choose the path of unity, not a course of collision and c haos. Time and events are passing us swiftly with reports of thrones lost, dissolution or formation of governments in quick succession or deaths of great men. So use y our time to strive hard to achieve a lofty state in the Hereafter, Al-Sudais said in his sermon at the Grand Mosque on the first Friday after the annual Haj. The mosque and its courtyards were overflowing with pilgrims who remained in Mak kah after completing Haj rites. The imam said Haj was a rite that instilled sentiments of tolerance, desire for dialogue, consultation and solidarity. The annual pilgrimage brings out the sublime image of a single Ummah with a singl e goal. The season of pilgrimage dictates to the faithful the noble lessons of t olerance, mutual assistance and the significance of maintaining security and pea ce. It also charges the pilgrims with a unique energy derived from the blessed g athering in the blessed land, Sheikh Al-Sudais said. He added that disputes in society would only lead to disunity and erosion of sta bility. He exhorted pilgrims to continue to be virtuous in their life that they adopted in Makkah with steadfastness and straightforwardness until their last breath. A sincere pilgrimage lifts up a man to the heights of spiritual joy. But, he will have to stay on the path of Allah, distancing himself from disputes and sinful deeds, adorning himself with every humanitarian quality, the sheikh said. He told the pilgrims to arm themselves with firm belief, heartfelt repentance, n oble intentions and to follow the Prophets (Peace Be Upon Him) model in order to overcome worldly challenges. Devotion to Almighty Allah fills the hearts with light and heals illness of minds and is the best defense against sins, he said. Sheikh Al-Sudais concluded the sermon reminding them to pray for the rulers of t he Kingdom, who organized and supervised the services to pilgrims, and those wor

kers who have been toiling day and night to make the Haj safe and comfortable. Sheikh Husain Al-Asheikh, imam and khatib at the Prophets Mosque in Madinah, said in his sermon that the greatest jihad in the life of a Muslim was to fight agai nst ones own self to obey Allah and His messenger. He added that a true believer would have to try hard to control his or her words and deeds that might harm oth ers. Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims who arrived in the holy city after performing Haj in Makkah attended the congregational prayer at the Prophets Mosque. They als o visited a number of historical locations in the city and its outskirts, such a s the Quba Mosque, Shuhada Mosque, Uhud, Al-Qiblatain Mosque and Khandaq Mosque. Large numbers of pilgrims have already left the Kingdom after performing Haj, wh ich concluded on Wednesday. The first batch comprising 262 Tunisian pilgrims returned home Thursday night. T he plane also carried Tunisian Haj Mission headed by Minister of Religious Affai rs Laroussi Almizori. As many as 10,000 Tunisian pilgrims who performed Haj this year will be flown ba ck home on board 40 Tunisian Airways flights until Nov. 28. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance, has been distrib uting 20 million copies of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Gift of the Holy Qu ran and religious books to pilgrims returning home at exit points in the Kingdom. Sheikh Talal bin Ahmed Al-Aqeel, adviser to the minister of Islamic affairs, end owments, call and guidance and chairman of information committee for Islamic awa reness in Haj, said the daily distribution stands at 250,000 copies of the Holy Quran and translation of its meanings in various languages as well as religious b ooks and tapes. http://arabnews.com/saudiarabia/article532479.ece --------Reality TV show lifts veil on Muslim Americans AFP Nov. 11, 2011 WASHINGTON: Its been a decade since the September 11 attacks and many Americans s till dont know quite what to make of their 2.75 million Muslim compatriots. Could a reality TV series help? All-American Muslim, which premieres Sunday on the TLC cable channel, lifts the ve il on five Arab American families in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan and finds the ir lives are, in many ways, not so un-American at all. Theres the Amen family, whose outspoken tattooed daughter Shadia is engaged to an Irish American from Chicago who accepts her familys request to convert to Islam on the eve of their wedding and upsets his Catholic mother. Newlywed twenty-somethings Nader and Nawal Aoude embrace teamwork like a new-age couple as they prepare for the birth of their first child, even as they adhere to a devout Islamic lifestyle. Nina Bazzy is a glamorous blond party planner on a collision course with both he r traditional-minded parents and the wider community over her bold plan to open her own trendy nightclub.

Mike Jaafar upholds the law as Dearborns deputy chief sheriff, while his wife Ang ela tries to keep their four high-strung children in line in one of those big su burban houses that signifies the American dream. And the patriarch of the Zaban family, Fouad Haj Walker Zaban, is as passionate ab out his religious obligations as he is about leading the high school football te am he coaches to the Michigan state championship. It seemed like a really, really good opportunity to dispel some of these misconce ptions that weve been dealing with all our lives, Shadia Amen told AFP on Thursday , explaining why she agreed to do the show. Were not here to represent Islam. Were just five American families who happen to be Muslim. All five families live in Dearborn, an industrial city of 100,000 that may be be tter known for North Americas biggest mosque than for being the home of the Ford Motor Company. Three-quarters of Dearborns residents are of Arab heritage. Many trace their root s to Lebanon the Amens hail from the Bekaa Valley and all felt the chill of susp icion after the September 11 attacks in 2001. That chill lingers. Earlier this year, a Public Religion Research Institute surv ey indicated that nearly one in two Americans felt uncomfortable at the sight of women in burqas or a group of men praying to Allah in an airport. Sixty-eight per cent said they seldom or never interacted with Muslims, and 47 p er cent thought Islamic values dont jibe with American ones. On the other hand, a concurrent Pew Research Center poll revealed that 48 percen t of Muslim Americans think other Americans are generally friendly to them. Muslims were also more satisfied with the way the United States is going. All-American Muslim includes eight episodes, with part one on Sunday seeing brideg room Jim McDermott converting to Islam before his future in-laws as his bride-to -be Shadia Amen looks on, wearing a not a terrorist T-shirt. Shadia then dons a hijab for a religious marriage ceremony led by a witty imam, before a full-on reception apparently modest by Dearborn standards, with just 40 0 guests that features both belly dancing and an Irish jig. Hard-driving coach Zaban meanwhile wonders how to prepare the teenagers on his m ainly Muslim team for a crucial game during the holy fasting month of Ramadan, w hen even a sip of water is prohibited before sundown. The solution: training after dark, right up to 4:00 am. Future episodes will find deputy chief Jaafar addressing prejudice and discrimin ation among his fellow law enforcement agents while his wife juggles her career in the automotive industry with the demands of raising a family. Its not like you can lump us all together, Amen told AFP, referring not only to her fellow cast members, but also the wider Arab American community. We are so diver se. http://www.dawn.com/2011/11/11/reality-tv-show-lifts-veil-on-muslim-americans.ht ml
