San Pascual Baylon - patron saint of fertility, wealth and abundance

The Obando fiesta is celebrated from May 17-19. Couples who are childless can take this occasion to appeal for heavenly intercession and dance to please the Virgin of Salambao. San Pascual de Bailon and Sta. Clara. Maidens and bachelors who want husbands and wives can dance for their mates. Farmers also thank the Virgin for bountiful harvests.

Obando Fertility Rites Festival - Obando, Bulacan

The Obando Fertility Rites is a Filipino dance ritual. Every year during the month of May, to the tune of musical instruments made out of bamboo materials, the men, women and children of Obando, Bulacan, Philippines wear traditional dance costumes to dance on the streets followed by the images of their patron saints San Pascual Baylon (St. Paschal), Santa Clara (St. Clare) and Nuestra Seora de Salambao (Our Lady of Salambao), while singing the song Santa Clara Pinung-Pino. Among the fiesta participants in the fertility dance are outsiders from other towns in the Philippines; most are asking the patron saints for a son or a daughter, a husband or a wife or good fortune. They dance on the streets as a form of a religious procession primarily in order for the spirit of life to enter into the wombs of women. This is the magic and mystery of Obando, Bulacan.

Obando is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Bulacan, Philippines. It is 16 kilometers away from the Philippine capital Manila. Obando is landlocked, bordered by two cities from Metro Manila namely Valenzuela City in the east, Navotas and Malabon City in the south, Bulacan in the north, and the waters of Manila Bay in the west. According to the latest census, it has a population of 56,258 inhabitants in 11,229 households. Province of bulacan is rich in fishery fishpond or the savoury and delicious seafood such as milkfish, tilapia, prawns, crab and more. English translation: To the very refined, Saint Claire This is my promise Upon reaching Obando Town I will dance the fandanggo.} To the very refined, Saint Claire I pray that you grant me Thirteen spouses all in all To the costs, I wont complain at all!

The dance rituals are much like a parade that leads the participants through town to the steps of the church. Participants dress in traditional costumes, dance to music played on bamboo instruments and

sing the song "Santa Clara'ng Pinung-Pino." Behind the dancers, people carry images of the saints.
