LANGKAWI
Langkawi has it that used to be the habitat of spirits and classical Malay literature Hikayat Merong Maha Wangsa states that Garuda, the mythological giant eagle rested in these islands. The island is divided into six districts namely Mukim Kuah, Padang Matsirat, Ayer Hangat, Bohor, Ulu Melaka and Kedawang. The islands contain bizarre rock formations that stir one's imagination and perplex the mind. Numerous caves like the mystical Gua Cerita, the haunted Gua Langsiar and Gua Kelawar with their stunning stalactites and stalagmites, taunt the adventurous. Fine beaches fringed with lush tropical vegetation offer sun-filled days of complete relaxation. The crystal clear emerald waters under azure skies provide a host of water sports and recreational activities, and a magical world of marine life. But Langkawi is more than beauty it is also a land steeped in legends and shrouded in mysteries. Its past is filled with legendary tales of wronged maidens and lovelorn princes, all of whom have left their mark for posterity. The best-known legend is that of Mahsuri, a beautiful maiden who lived here some 200 years ago. She was wrongly accused of committing adultery and sentenced to death by those who were envious of her. More tourists from all over the world are beginning to stream into the island for various reasons. It is because it place very beautiful and clean pristine beaches such as the Pantai Cenang, Pantai Kok and Pantai Datai. Another reason behind the arrival of many visitors are the numerous international events held on the island such as the Langkawa Intermatiomal Maritimes and Aerospace Show (LIMA), Tour de Langkawi, Langkawi International Motor Show and Langkawi. SPEND LEISURE TIME


Leisure time is set aside for relaxation. There can be useful and yet exciting ways to spend our leisure time. Some suggestion include reading, taking part in sports and doing charity work. Reading is one of the best ways to spend our free time. Besides spending our time in a relaxing manner, reading also has many benefits. It helps to improve our language, grammar and vocabulary skills. Moreover, it improves our general knowledge and gives us a better insight into life. We can learn a lot about other countries, their cultures and people without travelling to these places. Involve in physical exercise and sports are another fantastic way of spending our leisure time. Exercise clears the mind and makes the body healthy. It is also a good way to relive stress. Examples of sports activities are swimming, jogging and playing games. Perhaps one of the most satisfying ways to spend leisure time is doing charity work at special homes for the disabled, the blind and the aged. This is by signing up as a volunteer. We gain benefits that are two-fold. By making others happy, we are making ourselves happy too. With so many ways to spend ones leisure time at our disposal, one wonders why youths today spend their free time on dangerous pursuits like taking drugs, smoking and dangerous sports like racing. They are detrimental to ones life, health and incur high expenses.

FAST-FOOD RESTAURANTS
Fast-food restaurants are often seen as a sign of modern technological culture, they are probably as old as cities themselves with the style varying from culture to culture. For instance, Ancient Roman cities had bread and olive stands. East Asian cultures feature noodle shops. The modern history of fast food is connected with the earliest fast-food outlets selling hamburgers as their primary product. A fast-food restaurant is characterized both by food which is supplied quickly after ordering and by minimal service. The food is often cooked in large amount in advance and kept hot or reheated to order. Many fast-food restaurants are part of restaurant chains or franchise operations, which ship standardized foodstuffs to each restaurant from central locations. There are also simpler fast-food outlets such as stands or kiosks. They may or may not provide shelter or seats for customer. Fast-food outlets are take-away or take-out providers. Usually, they are with a drivethrough service to allow customers to order and pick up food from their cars. However, most also have a seating area in which customers can eat the food on the premise. Finger food comprises most fast food and so can be eaten without cutlery. Example of fast food include fish and chips, sandwiches, pitas, hamburgers, fried chicken, french fries, chicken nuggets, tacos, pizza or ice-cream although may fast-food restaurant offer slower food like mashed potatoes or salads.

TEENAGERS AND SMOKE


Smoking is one of the worst things teenagers can do their bodies. Yet every day, almost 5000 teenagers under the age of 18 try smoking for the first time. No wonder, tobacco companies spend billions of dollars every year on advertisement and other ways to make sure that these young people start smoking and buying their product. The companies count on them to become addicted for it keeps them in business. The nicotine in cigarettes is a poisonous drug. It can even be used to kill insects. Nicotine and the dozens of other poisonous chemicals in tobacco can cause illnesses like heart problem and certain kinds of cancer. Some of these illnesses take years to develop but others can show up rights away. Generally, smoking makes a teenagers body less fit and more like to be affected to infections. For example, teenagers who smoke are much more likely to get a cold pneumonia. Each the longer they smoke, the worse the damage becomes. Smoking has such a long list of bad points that one wonders why teenagers smoke. Along with bad breath and smelly hair and clothes, smoking makes it harder to run and to play sports. It also causes difficulty for blood to move around in the body. Smokers often feel tired and cranky and cannot think quickly. Not surprisingly, they are more likely to get in trouble at school and get lower grades. They are also more likely to lie to their friends or their parents about their activities. Smoking therefore not only brings about health problems but may also develop undesirable qualities of characters. Tee smokers can become lazy, irresponsible and dishonest.

CAREERS IN SPORTS
Many young people think that sports related careers are more glamorous than other careers. They might be wrong in thinking. Some examples of career in sports are sports coach, sports teacher, sports writer and athletic director. These jobs involve plenty of hard work, irregular hours and a high energy level. Just like other careers, sports careers have their pros and cons. The most obvious disadvantage is the salary. It is usually lower than desired. Another disadvantage is that the job requires putting in long and irregular hours. Working till late at night, sixty to seventy hours a week is to be expected. On the other hand, there are some benefits. Besides enjoying their work, many people in a sports career can get extended time off. For example, those who work as sports masters or teachers in schools have vacation breaks between semesters or during the long holidays. If you are interested in checking out a sports career, you have to undergo some type of training first. This is important. This is true in specialized areas such as sports journalism, coaching and sports administration. To obtain basic preparation, we have to sign up for an appropriate college activity. Many colleges offer courses in sports management, sports medicine the courses it is a good idea to take on a volunteer or part-time role in a sports organization. By getting some firsthand experience, we genuinely want to pursue.

MUSIC
Music is an art form in which the medium is sound. Common elements of music are pitch which determines melody and harmony, rhythm and dynamics. Music ranges from strictly organized compositions to improvisational music. Nobody can deny that listening to music is a relaxing activity. It does help us to unwind after a hard day. Music has that something that makes the body reacts. Life would be so boring if there is no music for a quiet dinner, but listen to something livelier while doing some physical work or out socializing in large groups. It is believed that farmers increase production by playing music though it does not know a word of it. So there is no denying that music can suggest and affect our state of mind. There are many types of music. In popular music and jazz, music notation always indicates the basic framework of the melody, harmony or performance approach. Musicians and singers are expected to know the performance conventions and styles associated with the specific genres and pieces. For example, performances in a jazz group are expected to know how to produce the basic structure by adding ornaments, improvised music and chord accompaniment. Professional musicians are engaged by a range of institutions and organizations, including symphony orchestras, broadcasting or film production companies and music school. Different performers interpretations of the same music can vary widely. Composers and songwriters who present their own music are interpreting, just as much as those who perform, the music of others. In some musical genres such as jazz and blues, even more freedom is given to the performer to engage to perform music straight from ones imagination on a basic melodic, harmonic or rhythmic framework. The greatest latitude is given to the performer in style of performing called free to perform music, which is material that is spontaneously thought of.

The music that composers make can be heard through several media. The most traditional way is to hear it live. Live music can also be broadcast over the radio, television or the internet. Some musical styles focus on producing a recording which mixes together sounds. The music industry refers to the business industry connected with the creation and sale of music. It consists of record of recorded music products internationally and that often control the rights to those products. Some music labels are independent while others are subsidiaries of larger corporate entities or international media groups. As for the future of music, there will be hundreds of different ways in which people get music. However, one thing is for sure, that is we will be getting music digitally.

SHORT MESSAGING SERVICE CULTURE


There is no doubt that the short messaging service (SMS) is the most popular means of communication today. Youths are the heaviest users. Some people even believe that sending of SMS has become an obsession among them. Unlike in the past, people had to arrange an outing beforehand. With SMS, this is no longer needed as it is immediate. People are now no longer as difficult to reach as before. Users do not have to arrange for meetings or activities much earlier. Now, they just have to send an SMS to their friends. The message will inform their friend of the meeting, time and place of the meeting. As it is so prevalent among youths, there are bound to be many influences on them. This is particularly so in the use of language. It is the norm to use short forms in typing an SMS text. Spelling out the entire word or sentence would take up more space. More words increase the cost of sending. Hence short-forms and abbreviations are often used. Many youths are addicted to sending or receiving SMS texts. A survey disclosed that some send about fifty or even more every day. This incurs high expenses on the phone bill. Despite these disadvantages, SMS is here to stay. This is due to its benefits of cost, convenience and saving time. It has definitely become a culture among the old and young a like
