MONDAY, OCTOBER 3 The only thing new today is the posting of the Unit 1 tests.
Chapter 3 Discussion Board Blackboard Then reply to someone else's original thread by Monday, October 3, 11 p.m. PDT. Feel free to respond to more than one original thread, but youll be graded on only one. A good response is something more than a reaction such as "Cool." I'll look for something that indicates that you have actually read the post and are continuing the conversation. Again, I'll look for correct spelling and grammar. (1 pt) Chapter 3 Test on Blackboard The Chapter Test will be administered through Blackboard. You will find the Tests link in the left frame of the classroom. The test will have multiple-choice and/or true-false questions. You will find the tests are available only for a few days and then they will disappear. Because the tests are available for more than a day, make-up tests (late tests) will not be available. The test will be available on Thursday, September 29, and will be due on Monday, October 3, 2011, 11 p.m. PDT. The test should take no more than a half hour. Text, Writers Workshop, pages 59-60. Writers WS Unit 1.1 due on Monday, October 3, 2011, 11 p.m. PDT. Submit Writing Application 1 for a personal business introductory letter to me. Follow the Personal Business Letter format shown on page 60. You may use SCCs address as your own if you prefer: 16101 Greenwood Avenue North, Shoreline, WA 98133. Use my name for the recipient: Professor Karen Toreson, Business Technology Department, Shoreline Community College, 16101 Greenwood Avenue North, Shoreline, WA 98133. Be sure that your name appears in the closing information. Save your file in Word 2003, Word 2007, or Word 2010 format. UNIT 1 TEST--The Unit 1 Test will be available in Blackboard beginning Monday, October 3, and is due by Saturday, October 8, 2011, 11 p.m. PDT. Unit 1 covers Chapters 1-2-3 from the Guffey text. This test has 5 true-false questions worth 1 point each and 30 multiple-choice questions worth 1.5 points each. The test is worth 50 points total. Work individually without assistance from anyone. UNIT 1 COMPOSITION TESTThis test will be available in Blackboard beginning Monday, October 3, and is due by Saturday, October 8, 2011, 11 p.m. PDT. Unit 1 covers Chapters 1-2-3 from the Guffey text. This composition test has 10 items, each worth 2 points. You are to save the Word file, complete the 10 items in that file, save the file asUnit1Comp_LastNameFirstName. Submit the Word file using the submission link.

Study the Chapter objectives; complete the Pretest, and then read the chapter. Complete the Reinforcement Exercises at the end of the chapter. You can check your answers at the back of the book. Complete the posttest. The pretest, reinforcement exercises, and posttest will not be submitted.

Use the Access card that came with your text to log in to the Premium Student Resources at the Guffey Web site if you have not already done so. Complete these activities.

View the PowerPoint Review for Chapter 4. Nothing to submit. Complete the Ms. Grammar Tutorial for Chapter 4. Notice that you should be able to achieve a 100% score. When you have achieved the 100% score, click on Report. Print screen the report displaying your name and date of completion with 100% score. Paste the print screen into Word and save it as MsGrammar_Ch4_Firstname.Lastname to your computer.. Submit the file using the Blackboard submission link. (5 pts.) Complete the Guffey Chapter 4 Quiz. I need to be able to see that you have completed the correct chapter quiz, the score you earned, and your name. At the completion of the quiz, your score will display. You'll also see a spot for you to fill in your name. Do fill in your name. Be sure that your name, the identification of the chapter quiz, and your score all display. Then print screen your results, past into Word, save the Word document to your computer as Guffey Quiz 4 (or whatever the quiz number is), and submit the Word document. Then click on submit to send the quiz to yourself as verification of completion. Your quiz percentage will be converted to points when I record your scores. (5 points possible)

Read Writers Workshop pp. 142-146. Writing Effective Sentences. Note that the exercises on pages 142-145 have you practice writing complete sentences. At the bottom of page 145 is the scenario you are to address. You are to respond to the memo on page 146. Your reply should follow the format for the memo on page 146. Submit using the Blackboard submission link. Due on Monday, October 10, 2011, 11 p.m. PDT.
