To make the sun I Created a ring by either the magic circle method or by chaining 2 and slip stitch into 2nd chain from hook. Round 1 (in Yellow):12 Double crochet (DC) in circle, slip stitch (SS) in the top of 1st DC- 12DC's. Just like how we started the beanie. Fasten off leaving a long tail and attach where you like it on the hat and stitch on some sun rays. I made some simple black birds too, all just stitching where you like the look ofthem. Here are the cars:
Translate:
They are called micro systemz. I got a pack of 5 for $5.00 at Big W. They are approx. 1.5 inches long and .5 inches wide. I alos got some brooch backs from my local craft store they are small one's a little under an inch an I just ho glue gunned it to the under side of the car.

So now you can have 5 different cars that can be put on the beanie as your child wishes. It also makes for easy removal for washing -and we all like that ;)

JuneLuve said... Oh how wondeful! I have four nephews and they see me crochet all the time and all four have recently asked for cool hats like their sisters get. I've tried to find a pattern that they will like and for each picture I showed them they didn't like. I have showned them this one just yesterday and they are begging for me to make it for them. They already found the cars they want to put on their hats. Thank you so much! January 11, 2011 5:31 PM

Lisa said... so great! I have boy/girl twins that are 2 1/2 years old & it's so hard finding brightly colored things for my darling boy. I just bought some yarn & cars just to make this beanie. Since my guy is so small I am nervous about the pin & considering sewing a piece of velcro to thehat & hot glue to the car. Still thinking about it. Thank you for the pattern! March 13, 2011 11:10 AM
Lisa said... I just noticed you said you used 8 ply yarn & I have worsted weight-what kind of yarn did you use specifically? March 16, 2011 4:51 AM
