SYLLABUS 7th Grade Health Instructor: Ms.

King Course Title: Health 7th grade Course Description

Health education is a continuum of learning experiences that enables students, as individuals and as members of society, to make informed decisions, change behaviors, and change social conditions in ways that will improve their quality of life. A primary goal of the health education is to improve academic achievement and health literacy for all students. Health literate students are: Critical thinkers and problem solvers when confronting health issues Self-directed learners who can apply the knowledge and skills in healthenhancing ways Effective communicators who organize and convey beliefs, ideas, and information about health issues Responsible and productive individuals who assist with helping their community become a safe and clean environment

On-Line Class Format

Homework and Missed Exams or Assignments: There is no homework as such; nevertheless, there will be a minimum of two assignments will need to be done outside of class. Students may not submit assignments onto the class website late; however, extra credit will be available on the site under the extra credit tab. Absences will not excuse omitted work. In the event of an absence, students are expected to review the class website for information about class assignments. All missed assignments must be completed within one week of the students return to class. It is the students responsibility to check the learning management systems calendar and assignment list in order to keep abreast of assignments and due dates.

Departmental Grading Policy Grades are earned based on a total point system, i.e. the total points that you earn is divided by the total possible points to give your percentage. e.g. You have earned a total number of 850 points. The total number of points possible is 1000. 850 1000 = .850 X 100 = 85% = B Science Lab Safety Rules 1 - Always wear safety goggles whenever you are working with chemicals or other substances that might get into your eyes. 2 - Never reach across a flame. 3 - Immediately notify your teacher if any chemical gets on your skin or clothing to find out what to do to clean it off. 4 - Never look directly into a test tube when mixing or heating chemicals. 5 - Always point a test tube away from you and others when heating it over a flame or other heat source. 6 - Never smell a chemical directly from the container. Wave your hand over the opening of the container and waft the fumes towards your nose. 7 - Never taste a chemical unless you are instructed by your teacher to do so. 8 - Always clean up your work area and equipment after an experiment is completed. Equipment must be returned to its proper place. 9 - Read and follow all directions exactly as they are written. If in doubt, ask your teacher for help! 10 - Never mix chemicals (or perform tests) without your teachers permission. 11 - Never run (or push someone else) in the lab. 12 - Keep lids on bottles and containers when not in use. 13 - Never use broken or chipped glassware. 14 - Keep your work area clean and keep all materials (clothing, hair, papers, etc.) away from a flame or heat source. 15 - Immediately notify your teacher if you get cut or have another injury when performing an experiment. 16 - Wash your hands before and after each experiment.

Classroom Rules: 1. Dont communicate with anyone else when the teacher is talking a. Communicating is listening to someone else when the teachers talkingdont do it. b. Communicating is mouthing words to someone else when the teachers talking- dont do it. c. Communicating is reading/writing a note not related to the classroomdont do it. d. You may not speak when the teacher has given the floor to someone else. e. Do not use your cell phones to communicate in the classroom, unless given expressed permission. 2. Stay in your seat, unless given permission to move. 3. You are to already be seated in your seat when the bell rings a. There are times when you will be asked to move around. Listen to the instructions before moving; then wait for the Move like youve got a purpose. 4. Respect the learning environment a. Remember to raise your hand, when you want to speak b. Theres to be no hitting, pushing, cussing, or throwing c. If you would not do it while sitting next to a parent or guardian at a wedding or restaurant, do not do it in the classroom. d. Remember there is a time and place for everything. 5. You may not speak to anyone across the room a. When appropriate and necessary, you may speak to the person directly in front of you, directly behind you, or directly to either side. b. I should not hear you carrying on a conversation c. Do not use your cell phones to communicate in the classroom, unless given expressed permission.
