1.1 Introduction
Quidway NetEngine40 Universal Switching Router (NE40) is used for the edge of the IP backbone network and the MAN core, the MAN convergence, backbone network convergence and the core networks of any business or enterprises. It adopts the Huawei Versatile Routing Platform (VRP), featuring the line rate on the high-speed interface, the comprehensive Quality of Service (QoS) mechanism and carrier-level availability. The NE40 has the following features: Rich service capability The NE40 has the rich service capability, such as the MultiProtocol Label Switching Virtual Private Network (MPLS VPN), Virtual Private LAN Segment (VPLS), L2VPN/PWE3, MPLS Traffic Engineering (MPLS TE), the line rate of Network Address Translation (NAT), the Ethernet switching, IP VPN and the multicast service. Mature IPv4/IPv6 compatibility The NE40 supports the Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) and the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). The NE40 supports three tunnel modes of IPv6 over IPv4: configuration, automatism and 6to4. High reliability The route processing system, the switching network system, the clock system, the power supply and the management bus are all designed in the redundancy hot backup manner and they implement the hot switching based on the state. Comprehensive QoS mechanism The NE40 has a comprehensive QoS mechanism and provides the traffic classification based on the 1/2/3/4 layer information, the advanced queue scheduling algorithm and the congestion avoidance algorithm to guarantee the bandwidth, relay, jitter and the packet loss ratio, to expand the carrier-class service, such as the Voice over IP (VoIP), and to meet the development requirements of the IP network carrying multi-services. Thorough security plan Provides many security measures to defend the system against any malicious attack in the complex network.

1 Product Overview
Component Board
Description Includes two types of boards: Switch Routing Unit (SRU) and Line Processing Unit (LPU). Installed in the board area. The board cage has 10 slots, and can contain two SRUs and eight LPUs.
Located under the board cage and used to the cable allocation. Constructs the dissipation system with the fans.
See Chapter 5 Cables. See Chapter 3 Heat Dissipation System. See Chapter 2 Power Supply.
Located in the bottom of the chassis. An NE40 must be installed with two power supply modules operating in 1+1 redundancy. NE40-8 provides the AC and DC supply system.
Cable
Includes internal cable (power cable, signal cable and so on), optical fibers and external cable.
