Lesson Objective(s) (Stated in observable and measurable terms)

The students will demonstrate an understanding of the three branches of the United States Government, as outlined in the Constitution, through an online poster (Glogster). They will be able to: List all three branches Summarize the responsibilities of each Explain checks and balances

Assessment Plan (What will be done to determine if lesson objectives have been met?)

The students will create a glogster that contains all components of the objective. They will be assessed on their understanding through the final product and oral questioning.
Materials:

One computer per student Internet access Textbook or online Constitution Rubric for project

Inclusion Techniques for Students with Special Needs:

In order to ensure that all students have access to the materials needed for the project, students will special needs will be provided with the following accommodations/modifications: Graphic organizer with project criteria Link to online tutorials on how to use glogster

For lowest functioning students, they can focus on one of the three branches

Enrichment Techniques:

For higher functioning students, they may be required to include not only a description of what those branches are, but also to list who current members of those branches are by name.

Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set:

The teacher will present the project and pull up the following items on a projection: 1. Tutorial on how to use glogster 2. The glogster education website 3. A sample glogster poster

Detailed Teaching Sequence: (Provide sufficient detail that would enable a substitute to effectively present this lesson. Bulleted statements are preferred)

Introduce the project Review the glogster website and sample glogster posters Distribute the rubric and review this with the students Let the students know that graphic organizers are available to help manage the project as well as provide them with useful websites Provide each student with access to a computer and allow them time to work (this may mean taking them to a computer lab) Walk around the room while they are working; answer any questions and keep students on task At the end of the class period, show the students how to save their glogster posters

Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities

The students will have time to independently practice using glogster and demonstrate their understanding of the material through the creation of their own poster.
Closure:

The students will save their online glogs to the teacher website. The teacher will then present several of the glogs to the class by pulling them up on the projection.
