Dear Parents / Guardians: Not a single day goes by that I dont hear about bullying. Whether I see a news story on T.V., hear from a concerned parent, or have to deal with a student that is sent to the office for bullying another student on the playground. Bullying in schools is very real and can lead to very tragic consequences, if left untreated, or allowed to continue. Though the causes of bullying are complex and the solutions even more so, we all have a responsibility to help reduce and if possible, eliminate bullying in schools. I do, at times, however; get concerned that the term bully gets over-used, or misused, by some; which leads to confusion when dealing with or talking about bullies. Given one of our school accreditation goals is to improve student behavior and reduce the incidences of bullying by 10% by 2013, I thought that I would share with our readers the official definition of bullying that is being used by schools across the Province, as prescribed by the Dept. of Education. Bullying is a repeated pattern of intentional, hurtful, behaviours (physical, verbal, psychological) used by one or more individuals who exercise power to intimidate, threaten harm, and/or victimize another person/victim who is perceived as relatively weaker; bullying behaviours can be direct and open, or indirect and subtle, this includes the use of e-mail or internet to harass and/or intimidate others. *A one-time incident does not qualify as a repeated pattern of bullying behaviour and should be documented by the specific behaviour itself, such as physical violence or verbal abuse, for example, and not as bullying. The difference therefore between mean or poor behavior and bullying behaviour is the key words repeated pattern of intentional, hurtful behaviours towards a person, whether social, physical, verbal, psychological and/or cyber. Please talk to your children about bullying and help explain the difference between mean behavior and bullying behaviour. If you are not sure and need more clarification, please call the school. All parents, students and staff are welcome to attend. HOME & SCHOOL Sparktacular Family Dance TONIGHT!! - Friday, Nov. 25th, 6:30-8:00pm Wear your most sparkly/shiny clothing and enter your name in a draw for a prize! It is going to be a dazzling event! Students must have a parent/guardian present at the school with them for this event. There will be a free will offering at the door. 17th Annual Holiday Bazaar The Wolfville Home & School will be hosting its annual Holiday Bazaar Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011 (snow date Friday Dec. 9). Our Bazaar is a fun event where our library turns into a mini department store! This year the bazaar will be available to both the students in the Elementary and Middle School. Each student will have an opportunity to buy gifts, at an inexpensive price, for their immediate family members. The price of the gifts will range from $ . 25 to $5.00. All of the money raised through this event is given back to families in need at this time of the year. Volunteers will be there to help them shop, wrap and tag their gifts. Labels will be provided to each class room for students to make their gift tags. Please have a look around at your home for like-new items that you would like to donate as well as wrapping

paper or newspapers. Departments we would like to have this year are: Mom Dad (We are usually short on this one) Toys (Sister/Brother/Baby) Games Kitchen Decorative We will not have a book department this year. Please save books for the next Ice cream Social.

Please note that in keeping with school board policy, we will no longer have microwaves in classrooms commencing January 2012.
SIGN IN BOOK It is mandatory that all parents/guardians/visitors sign in at either office when entering Wolfville School. All visitors are required to wear a visitor tag. WOLFVILLE SCHOOL DOORS Just a reminder that the elementary doors are locked from 9:00 am to 2:45 pm each day. During these hours all visitors should enter the middle school entrance. Please note that the ML front door is not unlocked before 7:50 am.

Donations can be dropped off at either of the school offices starting immediately. Thank you for your support of this fun, festive event for our students and our school. Elisabeth Knein (542-1599) Holiday Bazaar Coordinator Next Home & School Meeting The next H&S meeting will be Tuesday, January 17th at 7pm in the Family Studies Room.
REPORT CARDS Reports will go home on Monday, November 28. LOVING TREE We will once again have a Loving Tree in the foyer. In support of the Food Bank we are looking for cans of gravy, and monetary donations to go towards the purchase of turkeys. Each turkey costs approximately $20.00 and we will have a barometer showing how much money we have raised to purchase turkeys. The Food Bank prepares 150 Hampers to support families within our community. HOLIDAY CONCERT A Band Concert will be held on December 14 at 7:00 pm. Students should arrive by 6:30 in concert dress (dark bottoms, white tops and band vest). There will be an elementary Winter Concert in the new year, date to follow. VOW OF SILENCE Pins are still available for sale on November 28 and 29 at a cost of $2.00 each. Students are also asked to please bring in a can of chicken gravy to contribute to the Food Bank. SKATING FOR GRADES Primary 3 Skating for grades Primary to 3 will commence on January 12. It is necessary for all students to return their skate waiver form by Friday, December 2. MICROWAVES

SAFE ARRIVAL Primary to Grade 5 Elementary Parent/Guardians are reminded to inform the school if your child will be late or absent from school. The elementary phone number is 542-6055. ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL Grades 6 to 8 If a student is away from school due to illness or personal reasons, the student is to bring an excuse to their homeroom teacher when he/she returns.
SCENT SMART SCHOOL - Elementary & Middle School We ask that when entering the doors of Wolfville School that you refrain from using scented products. Many of our staff and students suffer from scent sensitivity, which causes us to react with migraines and breathing difficulties.

LIBRARY NOTES Our book fair was a great success! We took $850.00 worth of books for the library, $150.00 worth of books were given to the classrooms and $200.00 in cash. The winner of the book draw was Annaya Zwicker. Both Annaya and her classroom received $25.00 worth of books. Thank you to all volunteers, staff and parents for your support. IWK Our December IWK fundraiser is Pyjama Day! It will be held on December 15. Wear your pyjamas and make a donation to the IWK. REFUNDABLES All families are encouraged to drop their refundables off at the Valley Recycling Enviro Depot in Greenwich using the Wolfville School account. This will ensure that the Wolfville School Playground committee receives the funds.

L.I.F.E.: Learning Is For Everyone

At Wolfville School, we believe that all students should have the opportunity to participate fully in school. We are pleased to have a LIFE benevolent fund to assist with specific student needs related to learning. This fund is used to ensure that no student is prevented from participating fully in their classes or school-based experiences because of their financial situation. It is only through the generous financial support of local businesses and residents that the LIFE fund can exist. Heres one way you can help: Provide us with your business card and for only $20 we will include it in one of our monthly newsletters. WOLFVILLE SCHOOL 2012 MUSICAL PRODUCTION Attention Actors, dancers and singers! All students in grades 4 and 5 are invited to audition for Mulan Jr, a Disney musical about a girl who goes against her familys wishes to fight for what she believes in, and saves her community. It is an inspiring story of courage and strength, and director Rachel Lutz is very excited to start work. Musical theatre is a valuable learning tool for students, and participating in theatre will teach teamwork, listening skills, and commitment. There are many different roles for both genders and skill levels, and even if this is your first time auditioning or performing, we would love to have you. Any students in grade 4 and up who do not want to be on stage should listen closely to the morning announcements, as there will be lots of jobs behind the scenes in preparation and during the show. Stay tuned for more information about audition times, which will start mid November. Christmas Street Fest With Wolfville Christmas Market & Shop Under the Stars Join us for something new! On Friday, December 9th from 5:00 9:00 p.m. experience Wolfvilles Christmas Street Fest.
