The possibilities of technology are limitless to the point that it tends to be a common theme in the humankinds disputes.

The question that seems to come up is does technology control us, or do we control technology? This paper is going to discuss gun control, the atomic bomb, and technology used in modern day warfare to explain how mankind controls technology, not the other way around. America is one of the last countries in the world where its civilians are allowed to purchase firearms in a rather simple fashion. Many people see the two atomic bombs dropped on Japan as a black eye in our history, when it was a victory. The modern day weapons along with warriors America uses to combat its enemies strikes fear in many civilians minds, when it is simply a mandatory process to avoid loosing American lives. The first topic is going to explain how gun control continues to spread on American soil and how it is a mistake. As a full blooded American that was born in Montana and spent six years in the Marine Corp Infantry it shouldnt be difficult to estimate my views on gun control. As will be explained later in the paper, the gun is a technology that was created, changed the world, and has continued to change the world. Many people believe that this technology is too powerful for the average civilian to have, and should be regulated so only the Law enforcement and Armed forces can possess it. The argument that guns are the reason why so much youth and gang violence exists in the inner cities is a popular standpoint that gun control activists stand to. This is just an excuse to hide how violent human beings are created to be, and until the plot of the movie Terminator 2 occurs, a gun will be created, sold, and used by the

human race. These three processes prove that humans control this technology, if one of those steps doesnt occur than the technology doesnt cause criminal acts. I believe that there should be some technological regulations, I carried a Colt M 4 that had the option of going automatic and could cycle through 30 rounds in about 7 seconds, this should not be allowed to an untrained civilian. Overall this technology isnt going anywhere so Americans my as well grow more comfortable with it especially if our constitution says we have the right to. Like the gun, the use of the atomic bomb in WWII is a category that many Americans are shady on. The atomic bomb was a new technology created to solve the problem of getting the disciplined and relentless country of Japan to surrender. We dropped the first atomic bomb in 1945, after we had been fighting the Japanese Island to Island since 1941. It was clear after devastating victorious battles such as: Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa that the Japanese were an enemy like none other in Americas history. The Marines took so many Islands that the only main option left was to invade Japan, for this to occur hundreds of thousands of American troops would have to be called on. The Army, which just returned from fighting the Nazis in Europe, would have to be recalled, a new draft would have to be issued. Overall there is a greater chance that a lot more Americans grandpas would not be alive today. Yes this is a technological power that needs to be closely regulated and supervised, but just like the gun it is a technology that already exists, and was created to save thousands if not millions of American lives. The creation of the gun and the atomic bomb has had a major impact on the momentum of technology in modern warfare.

Looking through history the best way to view the technological advancement of countries is to view the history of war. The difference between how WWI and WWII was fought is astonishing, and shows the engineering mindset that Germans have to create such efficient war fighting technology to cause two world wars. Due to these technological advances the trench warfare style used in world war one was no longer existent, it now became war of air, land, and sea. Fire and maneuver became the new strategy of the infantry to take ground at more rapid pace. Technology does control how wars are fought, but we as a people create the wars that create the technology. The momentum of technology is going to continue to progress and the world is going to continue to change. This paper discussed gun control, the atomic bomb, and modern warfare technology to prove the point that mankind will remain in control. It is irresponsible for humans to let technology take the rap for their violent nature. America should take advantage of the second amendment and continue to research new technologies to keep its civilians safe from harm.
