Chapter 18 Review Lesson Objective(s):

Students will correctly use chapter vocabulary words on the exam and in practice Students will be able to propose an effective response for the essay portion of the chapter assessment Students will identify key ideas of this chapter and interpret their role in the developments that took place Materials X America: History of Our Nation o Family Feud PowerPoint o Laptop Computer (Personal) X Student Binders o Sound toy Time: Approximately 15 minutes (1/3 of class period) Procedures/Activity Play a specially-created PowerPoint game of Family Feud with students to review terms and ideas for the upcoming chapter 18 test. Students will become more comfortable with late 19thcentury developments in industry and urban growth. Students will spend 1/3 of the class period playing this game in small groups, rotating through the other activities. Teachers Goals: To help students understand economic developments during the period of industrial expansion at the end of the 19th century. To prepare students for their chapter assessment Daily Assessment Students should put maximum effort into the game to effectively review content and then study any topics they feel they need more practice with. They should work to become comfortable with the key terms from the chapter.

Content Standard: 16.C.3c (US) Describe how economic developments and government policies after 1865 affected the countrys economic institutions including corporations, banks and organized labor.

Unit Assessment: Students will perform well on the test, achieving an accuracy of at least 80%. They will retain the vocabulary and knowledge they have gained from this unit.

Start of Class: Explain the days objectives and activities to students and explain the format for the review activities they will participate in. Ask them to split into three groups and then assign each group an activity to begin with (Family Feud is one of three separate review activities being taught at the same time). Demonstrate each game to introduce students to the format. Formal Lesson Introduction: Explain the rules to students, along with the scoring system and game flow. Start the PowerPoint and use it to guide students while giving information. Main Activity: Have students play the Family Feud-style game, providing scaffolding for them when necessary to allow them to complete the entire game. Use the sound toy to enforce time limits and keep the game flowing. Closing: Review the terms from each section and ask students to formulate a sentence defining each term. Spend time elaborating on any terms students find difficult or challenging. Self Assessment: Ask students to describe their comfort level with the chapter vocabulary and have them gauge their ability to create an effective synthesis of their thoughts on the essay topics.
