Glyndon Lutheran Church Council Meeting November 9, 2011 Members Present: Pam Rudolf, Joan Stenerson, Kris Johnson, Pastor Jeni Wanda Peterson, Carrie Smith, and Cindy Henriksen Devotion/Check-in/GLC Mission Statement Secretarys Report: read and passed Treasures Report: read and passed Ministers Report: Pastor Jenis Report November 2011 Its hard to believe that another month has passed! Time is passing with such speed that its hard to keep up! Worship Its been another solid month for me here at GLC. I have preached and presided at worship each Sunday and Wednesday. Worship continues to be lively and full. We had another week of over 180 between Sunday and Wednesday just this past week. It was great to welcome our new members. About 25, I believe! Thanks to those who participated in the New Member Reception on Sunday and New Member Potluck Dinner on Wednesday. Wednesday Nights have taken off! Weve doubled in size from last year and were having a blast. Many thanks to our new guitarist Matt Aakre for playing and to Cindy Henriksen for being the Martha, taking care of many of the behind the scenes tasks. Ive been working on finding a new organist. While we have some leads, we still do not have an organist who will be able to commit to being at GLC full-time. We have a new lead I will follow up on this week. Andrew Steinberg will play for us 10/30 and 11/06, 12/04, 12/24 and 12/25. We also hope to see Peggy Johnson fill-in for us on a regular basis. Education Confirmation continues to run at full speed. We have met every Wednesday morning from 8:20-9:20 at Dilworth Lutheran Church. We are so very thankful for their hospitality. Between 7th, 8th and 9th grade, we currently have 38 confirmands. I hope to work more with Kris and the 9th graders as they prepare for confirmation. 9th Grade Confirmation will be Sunday, January 8th at 9 a.m. (It was moved from February 19th). On one Sunday, I had the privilege of sitting in on 78s (Sunday School/Youth Group for 7th and 8th Graders) and really enjoyed the conversation and questions. Visitation I attended a Varsity Volleyball game and 8th Grade Football game as well as a Varsity Football game this past month. Its great to cheer the kids on and see them achieve great things. Its also a great time to connect with parents. Its great fun all around! Ive been able to get to more visits this month. I visited our Eventide shut-ins on Tuesday, November 8th. I made 3 home visits. I had a pre-marital conversation with Tyler Palya and Sam Jansen, who will be married in September 2012. I have also been in conversation with another couple interested in a June wedding. I attended the funeral of Glenn Rosenfeldt and the visitation of Jeanette Grinde. Other On November 2nd we saw the return of our Harvest Supper! Almost 400 people came through our doors. A lot of hard work was put into this great event. Many thanks for all the hands that served and supported GLC. Our envelope fundraiser was a huge success as well! In the years to come, well look to form a special event team to help continue our Harvest Suppers.

Council Minutes
During the Harvest Supper this year I got to hang out with the kids of those working. I went to the DGF High School Potato Band and Choir Concert. I made a short presentation to give to the Trinity Foundation Board for their support with the Haiti building projects. I had the honor of being involved in Kristi (Krabbenhoft) and John Erickson's wedding on October 29th. I have written a few National Honor Society recommendation letters. I continue to organize a monthly meeting of area youth workers. All in all, a good month. Topics of Discussion: New Business 2. Stewardship a. online Giving Option (VANCO): GLC has been looking into using this service. It costs $20/month and a few cents per transaction. Wanda made a motion to implement this service. Carrie second. Motion passed. Announcements will be made and information in newsletter for those wishing to use this type of payment option. b. 2012 Budget: A small group met to look at the 2011 budget vs what was actually needed to create the 2012 budge. They got through most of the information. They will meet prior to next council meeting to finalize. c. Membership Rolls: We are looking at the list of inactive members and a letter will soon be going out to them asking if they would like to maintain their membership with GLC or if they are joining another church. There are some organizations that the church pays based on membership. We would like to clarify this number. Offering Steward Dual Control: We are looking at implementing a system regarding monies counted and deposited on behalf of the church. A dual system would require two people to count and deposit monies. This protects all parties involved. There has never been an issue with this, but we want to avoid anything that could arise for future conflicts. We have a list of names of people whom we hope would like to work in this area. We are hoping to have this team in place January 1, 2012. If you are interested in being on this team, please contact the office. Serving Teams 2012: We are changing the way that monthly servers are in place. Instead of assigning people to a month, a letter will be forthcoming asking people when they would like to sign up. If each person/family would take one Sunday, it would cover the entire year. Sign up will be available at the church , via email/phone call to the office, or returning the post card. 3. Worship a. Growing Numbers Update: We are happy to report that attendance at GLC is growing. We are averaging 100 people at Sunday Worships and Wednesday worship varies between 50-80 people. b. Organist: We do not have a full time organist in place at this time. However we have about three people who are willing to rotate this duty. c. Thanksgiving Eve Service: For those wishing to attend a service, Scandia Lutheran will be hosting a community service Alter Guild: We are looking at various ideas to simplify this process. 4. Education a. Update on Sunday School: The new curriculum and station centered teaching that we are using on for Sunday School is working very well. The Wednesday School is also working well. We still have openings for volunteers to teach. Please check the sign up bulletin board by the church office. Update on Confirmation January 8th 2012: This is the date that this years confirmants parents have chosen for the day of confirma-

Blair, Sophomore. From Marissa Cross Country was an amazing experience this yearour boys went to state for the very first time ever in the history of our school. The girls didnt have enough people to be scored as a team, but we still had a lot of fun together! Volleyball has been a long standing tradition in Glyndon. We had several girls in every team. From Bailey Fuchs, Junior, it was a successful season and our team really was a like a big family. It was extremely fun and we made a lot of good memories. From Caitlin Ash, Sophomore, This was the best season by far. My JV team was 27-1 at the end of the season. On top of that we all got along really good and it was so much fun! And from Madison Geiser, Junior, We had a good season; a lot of our seniors took charge of the court. Some games we didnt play our hardest and we werent in the game and everyone could tell but as we started going we had a lot better turn outs. (And about the end of the season) we played our best we could and did really well against Wadena it just didnt turn out in our favor. It says in Psalm 149 that we can praise the Lord with dancingand this is true! This fall there was a student led group that started a fall danceline. Danielle Peterson, Junior, was on the team We loved having a new team with new people. It was a great experience to get us ready for the winter season. And Mariah Henriksen, Sophomore, said The first year of fall dance was really good! We made up both dances so everything we did was fun! And we had awesome volunteer coaches that pushed us and made us 12 times better than we were.
