Whats the object of the game?

Put pegs on the Culica in a way that obeys CuLogic rules given below. How many players? One to twelve players. What age range? Ten upwards Difficulty Compared to most Culica games, CuLogic is a bit more challenging to learn and play. But it is perfect for fans of puzzles, such as soduku!

Too difficult?Don't worry, there are some simpler variations that are easier to learn and play towards the bottom of this page.

How to play CuLogic

Peg selection

Choose any colour peg you like for each turn. Moving Players take turns. The first player puts their peg onto the Culica . The next player puts their peg next to that peg, side-by-side on the same or on a different face.

Side-by-side example

But the placing of the new peg must ensure that neither the new peg nor pegs already on the Culica violate the CuLogic "Truth Table" (more on this below). In other words, each peg must satisfy the CuLogictruth table or be able to be satisfied at some point by future moves. What is the CuLogic Truth Table? First there is some theory, then, to make it easier, there are lots of examples with pictures, so do keep reading!

First it helps to know that there is a sequence of pegs relations to keep in mind: red -> yellow -> green-> blue -> red ->... Note that blue goes to red again, so it's a circular sequence.

The CuLogic "Truth Table" is simply a set of simple rules that each peg must satisfy.

Every red peg must be next to ( side-by-side not diagonally)at least o ne of the following:

- Exactly 1 yellow peg - Exactly 2 green pegs - Exactly 3 blue pegs

Then a similar rule applies to yellow, green and blue pegs:

Everyyellowpeg must benext to ( side-by-side not diagonally)at least one of the following: - Exactly 1 green peg - Exactly 2 blue pegs - Exactly 3 red pegs

Every green peg must benext to ( side-by-side not diagonally)at least one of the following: - Exactly 1 blue peg - Exactly 2 red pegs - Exactly 3 yellow pegs

Every bluepeg must benext to ( side-by-side not diagonally)at leasto

ne of the following: - Exactly 1 red peg - Exactly 2 yellow pegs - Exactly 3 green pegs

As long as at least one of those rules is satisified for each peg, then the other pegs that are next to that peg can be any colour, including the same colour as that peg.

Here is the Truth Table described in a table of numbers. You read the table as rows, from left to right. So a red peg is satisfied when one of the following is true: the red peg is next to exactly 1 yellow peg; exactly 2 green pegs; exactly 3 blue pegs.

And yellow, green and blue pegs have an equivalent rule. In the table the "x" means that there is no rule about a peg being satisfied by being next to a peg of the same colour. Peg red yellow

Player one puts in a red peg. Player two puts in a yellow peg. This is OK because it doesn't break the CuLogic Truth Table rules. In fact, the yellow peg has satisfied the red peg.

Red is satisfied by one yellow peg.

If another yellow peg is added next to a red peg, that is OK, as the red peg can still be satisfied in the future by putting two green pegs next to it. You don't have to satisfy a peg with a move. The only requirement is that you do not prevent a peg from being satisfied by future moves.

For example, see the below position, which breaks the rules:

Illegal CuLogic position

if you add a green peg such that it, or another green peg next to it is now surrounded by four other green pegs, then that green peg can never be satisfied. Therefore the move is illegal, it breaks the rules in the CuLogic truth table.

In fact, you can invent and play many variations of CuLogic. All you need to do is change any of the numbers in the Truth Table rules above. Also, you can play with fewer colours. You can even forbid certain colours from being next each other. Culica is all about fun and experimentation, so try out your own rules!

Single Player Rules

You play exactly the same way as the Multi-player game - but its always your turn! How do I win? Put as many pegs as possible into the Culica such that they satisfy the CuLogic rules. Each peg placed scores you one point. Keep a note of your high score, then try to beat it next time.

Notes
James (inventor) best result was to completely cover five faces of the Culicaplus the corners of the sixth faceplaying single-player CuLogic. It is probably impossible to do better than this, so your challenge is to equal it! Are you up to it?

If you can prove or disprove that James' best result cannot be beaten, do let us know!

It's amazing to play CuLogic, give it a try!
