VALUEx

Zurich / Klosters 2012

February 1st 11.30 A.M - Friday February 3rd 10:00 PM

Principles

VALUEx is inspired by three principal sources, which determine the following three bedrock principles.

1. Berkshire Hathaway, Wesco, Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, Ben Graham et al. A place where like minded individuals can develop their worldly wisdom, learn to be better investors, and become better people in the process. 2. Wikipedia / Linux / Firefox and the Open Source revolution No one individual either owns, or controls it. The endeavor is not for profit. Leadership comes from the group of individuals who are in the best position to contribute and who can best understand and develop the mission and the goals. 3. Chris Anderson / TED / Ideas worth Sharing Content and speakers are selected using the same principle applied at TED, where the most successful talks are delivered by inspiring speakers in an inspiring way. A strict time format ensures that the speakers deliver their most valuable ideas promptly. The focus is on Ideas worth sharing, rather than pitching products / companies / ones own services.

Non-solicitation commitment. The goal of VALUEx is to promote wisdom, knowledge and friendship between the participants. This is also the goal of the formal presentations - of course, all while having a good time in the Swiss mountains. In all interactions with other VALUEx participants, we ask you to follow our strict non-solicitation rule which is as follows: During the whole event, please refrain from all unsolicited pitches whether of investment, or of business propositions. You should of course, feel free to respond to genuine enquiries of interest from other participants. Our goal in doing this is to create an environment that is conducive to learning and sharing. We have learned that some of our most valued participants will not come if they think that they will be accosted by enthusiastic salespeople.

By contrast, the following are Icebreaker Questions that you are welcome to ask, and be prepared to answer: Who is the person who has done the most to make you who you are today? If you could change anything about the way you were raised what would it be? Discuss a person/ persons who influenced your life significantly What is the worst quality you inherited from your parents? Which sibling was favoured by your parents and what impact did this have? When have you faced an adversity or crisis and who did you rely upon for perspective / help? When did you take a risk and it did not turn out the way you expected? How did it make you a better individual? The most important rule in my family was. Who is the person that you would most like to say Im sorry for If I did not have my parents as a child, the person in my life whom I would have wanted to be my mother was and the person whom I wanted to be my father would be .. What do you most look forward to and dread about growing old? What is the legacy you would like to leave? Do you have unfinished business with a significant person in your life? Would you prefer to precede or follow your spouse in death? If your best friend had a terminal illness and you could spend a week with them, what would you do? If you were to write a book before you die, what would be the topic?

What do you look forward to doing with your spouse that has not happened yet? What life lesson do you still need to learn in order to become content?
