2. Travel speeds and transport capacities.

Escalators and moving walks can continuously move passengers. Consequently, their transport capacity is much greater than that of lifts. Travel speeds of 0.5 to 0.65 m/s are recommended internationally. The maximum permissible speed of 0.75 m/s is only sensible for escalators with a considerable travel height. For moving walks the same speeds apply. Exception: For a horizontal moving walk, the speed can be increased up to 0.9 m/s. For example, passengers tend to be hesitant at higher speeds when stepping on to the step or pallet band. Even with larger step or pallet widths, the possibility to pass is not always utilized. Even so, higher speeds and wider steps or pallets, ensure travel comfort and a considerable reduction of travel time. EN 115: 2008 - for traffic flow planning the capacity of escalators and moving walks has been defined as illustrated in the diagram.

3. Inclinations and travel heights.

Even with a rise of only 1.40 m, an escalator can considerably ease visitor access to the building. Traffic installations: The most common travel heights of traffic installations are between 4 and 10 m. The most common angles of inclination for this are 27.3 and 30. At 27.3, the escalators are normally parallel to the fixed staircases in public traffic installations. Commercial centres escalators: For escalators in commercial centres, experience has shown that a 30 angle of inclination ensures optimum utilization of the space available and maximum ease of use. For a rise up to 6 m a 35 angle of inclination is available (EN 115 only).

However, even with larger travel heights, our engineers always find their way up: The 75 metre mark has already been achieved!

Moving walk: Inclined moving walks in shopping centres are allowed a maximum angle of 12. For extended travel distance, e.g. trade fairs and airports, horizontal moving walks with wide pallets are especially sensible.

a - Short lower part: low space requirement at bottom level b - Long lower part: highest ride comfort through convenient entrance with shopping trolley c - Short upper part: for economical space usage at upper level d - Long upper part: Optimised for the use of shopping trolleys

Escalator width

4. Step and pallet widths.

An optimum choice needs to be made here: Neither excessively wide nor narrow steps or pallets represent a balanced ratio between the space required and the transport capacity, between travel comfort and costs. Based on the cross-sections you can see the required space of your escalators and moving walks. A clearance of 30 mm for installation must be added to the dimensions on either side of the escalator or moving walk. The EN115: 2008 revision for moving walks: The pallet width must be 400 mm wider than the width of shopping trolleys or baggage carts. The trolleys or carts must fit to the ThyssenKrupp pallet.

Step width

Through wider steps or pallets, escalators and moving walk become noticeably more attractive.

5. Extended newels.
Optional extended newels optimise connections to ambient railings in the upper and lower entrance areas.

6. Transition curves.
Depending on space availability and the number of horizontal runout steps, there is a choice of three transition curves for the upper entrance area. Two transition curves are available for the lower entrance area.

7. Operating modes.
min .1 300

After rush-hour, escalators and moving walks do not need to operate at full power. You can save energy and reduce wear. For this we recommend either intermittent operation: Through starting elements, e.g. radar sensors or light barriers at the landings, the escalator only starts to operate when people need to be conveyed. When light barrier or radar sensors do not detect passenger entries, the escalator operates by means of a time relay until the last user has left the step band and the set follow-up time has expired. Traffic light units indicate if the machine is operational as well as the direction of travel. Or ThyssenKrupp Energy Control for further passenger comfort: Using a frequency-voltage converter the speed is reduced to 0.2 m/s. The slower stand-by service indicates to the passengers the function of the escalator as well as the direction of travel. Upon passing through a light barrier, the escalator accelerates to the set speed.

Upon stepping on to the escalator, a guard rail ensures that the light barrier is activated.

In this case a guard rails is not necessary. The radar sensor is able to monitor the directions of the persons. The escalator will start only if somebody enters the entrance area.

8. Power supply.
Our escalators and moving walks operate worldwide to suit all power supplies and frequencies: Please notify us in advance of the voltages and frequencies in your building! Running and starting currents for your escalator system can be obtained from our slide rulers. Main voltage 230/400 V (Euro voltage) Main voltage 240/415 V Main voltage 220/380 V Main voltage 127/220 V Main voltage 600 V Frequency 50 Hz Frequency 60 Hz Without neutral conductor

III. Safety manual. You can play it safe!

Where passengers are concerned, safety is of paramount importance. With the Motion Safety System, which unites all ThyssenKrupp safety innovations to a superior system, we comply with national and international safety requirements. And thats not all: During the planning stage, standards and regulations must also be observed. On the following pages, we provide you with an overview and practical examples on how you can play it safe!

Theory.
Which standards, guidelines and building regulations need to be observed? - EN 115 (European standard EN 115). The safety rules for construction and assembly of escalators and moving walks have applied throughout the EU since 1992. Outside the EU, also fufill other national rules. - Machinery guideline (98/37/EG). The purpose of the machinery guideline is to assure free goods traffic for machines in the European Union. - ANSI/CSA. In North America standards are published by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), resp. by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). These directives virtually tally those of EN 115. We always provide architects planning to install a continuous conveyor outside the EN-regulations area with information on the most important deviations. - National standards and building regulations.

11

Practice.
Everything which is important. 1. EN 115 (European standard EN 115) also deals with step and pallet widths, inclinations and travel heights as well as travel speed with regard to operational safety. The standard states, - that the inclination of escalators should not exceed 35. Exception: For a travel height of more than 6 m or a speed of more than 0.5 m/s, a maximum inclination of 30 is possible. According to ANSI/CSA inclinations exceeding 30 are normally not permissible. - that the usual speed of moving walks is 0.5 or 0.65 m/s. The maximum speed is set at 0.75 m/s. Exception: The speed can be increased up to 0.9 m/s. Conditions: - pallet width up to 1000 mm - long, horizontal run of pallets (1600 mm) - that the current rated speeds of escalators are 0.5 resp. 0.65 m/s. The maximum permissible speed is set at 0.75 m/s. ANSI/CSA: The speed must not exceed 0.64 m/s. - that, for moving walks, a maximum inclination of 12, for pallet widths exceeding 1000 mm, a maximum inclination of 6 is permissible.

2. Horizontal steps. For travel heights up to 6 m, 2 horizontally guided steps (800 mm) must be provided. With larger travel heights, 3 horizontal steps (1200 mm) must be included in the design. ANSI/CSA: A minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 horizontally guided steps are requested!

12

3. Safety zone. Safety zone (free space in front of the escalator) must be included in the design of the landing areas. This must be equivalent to the distance beetween the outer edges of the handtrail x+ 160 mm and must be at least 2500 mm in depth. Or double the distance of x+160 mm and at least 2000 mm in length. On moving walks, the safety zone must be dimensioned more generously, where luggage or shopping trolleys are transported. 4. Safety distances and deflectors. EN 115: The lateral distance between the outside edge of the handrail and fixed walls must be at least 80 mm and a minimum of 2100 mm above the step or pallet band. The distance between the balustrade middle and building must be at least 500 mm. Should the distance measure less than 500 mm ThyssenKrupp will fit additional deflectors of at least 300 mm to prevent people from becoming trapped. ANSI/CSA: A minimum distance of 102 mm must be maintained between handrail and neighbouring surfaces.

min. 300 < 500 > 500 ok < 500 > 500 ok 80

min. 300

5. Additional side balustrade. The use of railings or an additional side balustrade at a height of 1000 mm prevents people from getting on to the escalator or moving walk by stepping over the balustrades. 6. Infill panels. With adjacent escalators or moving walks, the maximum distance between the balustrades can be 120 mm. Infill panels are required with larger distances.

According to the diagram, an infill panel must be installed.

13

7. Skirt brushes. Skirt brushes are intended to prevent users from pressing their shoes against the skirt. To the extent that these are prescribed by national regulations or if requested by the customer, brushes are fitted to the skirt above the steps. An analysis of the dangers according to the machinery guideline have shown that skirt brushes raise the safety standard of escalators. 8. Clearance height above steps. The clearance above the step or pallet band must be at least 2300 mm at every location. ANSI/CSA: A clearance of 2130 mm (resp. 7 feet) is specified.

min. 2300

9. Lighting. In order for passengers to step safely on to escalators or moving walks, the step or pallet band must be adequately lit. The required lighting must be at least 50 Lux. ThyssenKrupp additionally offers various lighting options. For example: 1. Above the balustrade, 2. Integrated in the skirt band or 3. Before the comb plates.

14

IV. Installation possibilities.

Moving with the flow is easy!

15

Escalators and moving walks considerably increase the appeal of commercial centres and traffic installations by achieving - a similar frequency of people on all floors and therefore an increase in turnover - guiding the flow of people and especially - ensuring travel comfort. In recent years, they have actually been promoted to become a major design feature in modern architecture. In fact, ThyssenKrupp has combined exemplary functionality and aesthetics through design varieties and numerous technical innovations. In the following chapter, we present the most common installation possibilities. Using examplebased information, we explain the special features that must be taken into account from the construction perspective.

ThyssenKrupp is the competent manufacturer even for extravagant solutions. For example at the London Underwriting Centre we have installed the worlds first free-suspended escalator system.

16

Examples showing arrangements. There are various possibilities for positioning escalators in a building. We show you several examples of the most frequently used arrangements. Depending on the requirement, you can decide whether passengers are to be conveyed quickly from floor to floor, or whether they have to go through promotional areas. ThyssenKrupp escalators are designed to operate in both directions. As such, you do not need to decide the travel direction at the planning stage!

V. Preparations by others.
Everything is well prepared!

Perfect planning also includes optimum installation planning. That is why in the following pages we have listed everything that needs to be planned and carried out on site to ensure easy installation of your escalators and moving walks.

1. Installation timing. To prevent damage to the escalator during the construction phase the timing of installation and assembly should be as close as possible to the opening date. It should, however, proceed completion of the floor so as to dispense with the need to take further measures to protect floor coverings. Please ensure that the provisional floors along the transport route in the building can comfortably cope with the load weight. 2. Transport to the assembly site. A suitable unloading area must be available in front of the building. The access routes to the building must be level and negotiable by heavy duty rollers. Along the entire transport route to the assembly site the free height must not be less than the minimum specified in the disposition plan (also goes for pipes and other attachments fitted by others to the ceiling structure). In your plan calculations allow for a 150 mm height of the transport rollers. The entrance width depends on the width of the conveyor, the length of the delivered units and, if present, the distance between supporting pillars in the building. In case of doubt, the entire transport route on location should be run through on a CAD program or scale paper model. 3. Access openings, transport route load capacity. Together with you, we agree on the best access possibility. - Normally, escalators are moved in through openings at the side of the building at ground level. - Optionally, suitable roof openings should be provided, in order to bring the escalators by crane. It is important that the route to the assembly location within the building is free of obstacles and level, and the ceiling can support a load of 40 kN. Otherwise the appropriate weight distribution must be catered to. 4. Special delivery. In order to deliver your system into the building and to assemble it ready for use in a time saving manner please pay attention to the following during the planning stage:

Access opening about 3.5 x 3.5 metres.

Completely assembled escalator

In some cases it is not possible to bring the complete escalator into the building. In this case we dismantle the balustrades before delivering the escalator to you. Some escalators are so long that they have to be installed in sections. In this case, we manufacture a split escalator.

5. Ceiling openings. We will notify you of the location and size of the required ceiling openings on the installation drawing. You must supervise the precise implementation of these.

Side view through the support with all details.

200

140

6. Top and bottom supports. When you design the support recess please take the support loads into account. They are shown on the installation drawing, i.e. at those locations where the supports of your escalator (or your moving walk) will be placed, the statics must be able to bear the weight of the escalator including 5 kN/sq.m. traffic load. When preparing the supporting structures the measurements indicated on our installation plans must be precisely adhered to.

60

7. Intermediate supports. Intermediate supports are needed on escalators with a considerable travel height and on long moving walks. We will inform you in our installation plan of the location of the intermediate supports as you have to include the additional required space in your construction plan.

8. Pick-up points by others. You will be responsible for fitting pick-up points for hosting and supporting the escalator during assembly. These should be located exactly above the centre of the supporting points. For systems with several supporting structures please plan for additional pick-up points above the intermediate supports. All pick-up points must be capable of taking a load strain of min. 50 kN.

Solid escalators have a corresponding dead weight. An escalator e.g. with a travel height of 4 m, at an angle of 30, weighs an impressive 6920 kg. Therefore please check that the floor of the building will bear the transport weight of your escalator. Otherwise, you will need additional floor support during the installation period.

20

9. Electrical connection. Our diagram shows where escalators and moving walks are connected to the power supply. Please note that electrical cables are inserted at a distance of 450 mm on the side of the support and that the length of the cable on the inside of the escalator must be about 1500 mm! With complex controls, such as those usually required for escalators and moving walks in traffic installations, the control equipment should be installed in a separate room. The supply cable is then installed in this control room. In case of additional of soffit lightings a separate power supply must be considered in time. The power connection must be provided by an authorised electrical-engineer assigned by you.

10. Sprinkler piping. An optional safety feature is the installation of a sprinkler piping within the escalator or moving walk. 11. Oil separator. A type-proofed oil separator is essential for escalators and moving walks which are exposed to the weather. ThyssenKrupp supplies (optional) the oil separator in the lower reversal station. At the construction site a recess must be provided for the oil separator in the escalator pit.

1.400

600

12. Railings by others. In the threshold areas of the escalators, railings have to be installed by others. The distance to the escalator handrail has to be at least 80 mm. For adjacent escalators, the distance between the edges of the handrails must be at least 120 mm.

VI. Installation.
Is it in the right operation position?

21

The more we know about your building the more precise the planning. The ceiling openings and support loads are determined in accordance with your information.

Towards the end of our basics of planning, one is confronted with the installation of the escalators and moving walks: On the following pages we provide you with information about the most important site precautions which will assist us in installating your escalator system in an effective manner. 1. Preparations. You inform us of your model requirements, travel height and angle of inclination as well as the location of the escalators. Our engineers then design your escalator. 2. Confirmation of the main dimensions. ThyssenKrupp will send you a planning sketch or an installation drawing of your installation. Please check whether the dimensions of the escalators or moving walks comply with the dimensions of your building. Please confirm this on the planning sketch or on the installation drawing. In addition, our installation team will verify and discuss the access with you. 3. Final installation. The escalators and moving walks are unloaded from the transport vehicle by crane or by forklift truck and placed on heavy-duty rollers. Then, we transport your escalator or moving walk through the building. For installation purposes, lifting eyes are attached to the support angles of the escalator. Depending on the type of building and the type of escalator or moving walk there are several possibilities available for the final installation: Normally, holes with a 100 mm diameter will have been made through the ceiling, according to our instructions. These are used by our installation team for fixing the lifting gear. This way your escalator or moving walk is simply lifted upwards from floor to floor! The load strain of every pick-up point during assembly must be at least 25 kN. Optional: Installation with a frame. If no assembly holes can be provided the escalators and moving walks are lifted to their final location by means of an especially sturdy girder construction. In this case, ceiling load strain must take at least 25 kN. Optional: Crane assembly. Where a suitable roof opening is available or the site is located outdoor we lift your escalator or moving walk by crane and place it on the supports provided. The customer is responsible for ensuring for all local authority approvals.

Every escalator is manufactured separately according to your individual requirements: That is why confirmation of the main dimensions is absolutely essential!

Attachment of the cable winches to the holes are prepared at the site

VII. Check list.

Once again the most important facts.

23

Has the location of your escalators or your moving walks (for example parallel) been specified during the planning stage? Does the travel height correspond with the architectural drawings? Does the width of the escalator or moving walk correspond with your requirements? Does the installation length correspond with your building? Please check that the clearance above steps and safety zone complies with the standards. Have you clarified the installation route with us in advance? Please note our specified transport dimensions: Can your escalator or moving walk be delivered in one piece? Has the power supply to the upper section of the escalator or to the escalator control room and between the control equipment and the escalator been taken into account in accordance with our specifications? For installation purposes it is important to coordinate with ThyssenKrupp the unloading possibility in front of the building. Where neces sary, a permit may have to be obtained from the authorities. Are any local authority approvals for restricting road/pedestrian traffic clarified? Check the building statics also on the coordinated transport route with regard to the support load of your escalator or your moving walk. Is the building structure adequate for transportation within the building? Do you have any more questions? Our experts will be pleased to assist you!
