Can We Know God?

One of the great struggles many people face is trying to understand God. Some think that there is nothing about God that we can truly understand, while others think that God isnt really that different from us. Obviously, both of these are extreme views. God has certain qualities that we have (He has emotion, He thinks, etc.), but that does not mean that He is one of us. However, is God so distant that we cannot really know Him? Thats a difficult question to answer. In some ways, the answer is yes, because we cannot fully comprehend God, nor any of His attributes. We know that He is love, and we know what love is, but we fail in love so often that we struggle to comprehend love that never fails. We are intelligent and thinking, but we cannot fully comprehend perfect and complete knowledge, such as that which God has. On the other hand, though we may struggle to understand the fullness of God and His attributes, we can still know enough about Him to say that we know Him. Above that, though, we should desire to know our God,

because the Bible teaches us clearly that He desires a relationship with us through His Son. What a wonderful blessing! This month, our goal is to spend our Sunday mornings exploring four of the qualities of God that will help us know Him better. We will talk about His holiness, His immutability, His grace, and His giving. It is my prayer that, by looking at these attributes of God, we all come to know Him and adore Him even more. Why not invite a friend to worship with you, so they can come to know God even better, too? Our special classes are going very well. We begin the second rotation this morning. All the members of each class will remain in the same room, and a new teacher (Michael Rader, JD Buckner, and myself) will be going to the appropriate room. Please provide feedback to our elders about these classes, and continue to support the classes with good discussion.

Did You Miss a Sermon?

In late 2010, Lebanon Road started making our sermons available on our website. We receive several "hits" to that part of our site regularly, and we are thankful that people are listening to these sermons. Recently, we have made these sermons even easier to access, and we hope you will use this service and pass along the word. If you like to download sermons to an iPod (or similar device), take advantage of these options, or pass along this information. There are two ways to do this: 1. Go to http://sermonsintheshadowofthecross.podbean.com/ . From there you can "subscribe" to the sermons (for free, of course), or you can listen to them directly from that site. 2. If you use iTunes, you can just search for "Sermons in the Shadow of the Cross," and click "subscribe." If you don't use these types of media, you most likely have friends who do. This could be a great evangelistic tool, but we must spread the word!!!

PERSONAL EVANGELISM
Go . . . teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost (Matt. 28:19). Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15). Why Every Christian Should Be A Personal Teacher Jesus Christ was a personal teacher. We are commanded to teach personally (Matt. 28:19; 2 Tim. 2:2). The early Christians were (Acts 8:4). We must be ready to give an answer for our hope (1 Peter 3:15). Personal work will serve as training for Bible school teachers. It will prevent worldliness and church trouble. Members will be too busy doing the work of the Lord. It is the most effective method of teaching known because it goes directly to the need of the individual being taught. Personal teaching by every Christian will increase the effectiveness of pulpit preaching, the radio, Bible classes, and the distribution of gospel literature. When a systematized program of personal evangelism is started in the congregation we will need more gospel meetings (pulpit preaching), more radio preaching, more Bible classes, and more distribution of tracts and other literature. We should be personal workers because we love the souls of men. The mission of Christians is to save souls. We were saved to save others! (W. A. Bradfield)

JDs Jargon
Hello everyone, I am very thankful for Allison Studer hosting the cookie night each year. Last Thursday the girls from the youth group gathered at Allisons house to cook confectionary delights. I am sure they will be enjoyed by many myself included! December is a great month for good deeds. This month puts everyone in the giving spirit. All of our Angel cards from the YES store have been given out. If you still have not brought your gift to the building, please do so tonight! The youth will be going ice skating on Tuesday, December 20. We will leave the building at 10 AM. The tickets were donated by Gary Welch, so entrance is free! You will need to bring lunch money for after skating. I only have 25 tickets so make sure to sign up on the youth board if you want to attend. Wednesday, December 21 we will take a group to Second Harvest to work. We went to Second Harvest last year and it was a really great thing. We spend the morning taking canned food items and distributing them for the store that serves families in need. Please join us for Second Harvest day! All the youth meet at the building Friday, December 16 at 5 PM for the progressive dinner. Dont forget your goofy gift! Thank you very much! -JD :)

Thank You
We would like to thank everyone for the countless expressions of kindness shown to us during the loss of my father, Bill Hartline. The prayers, cards, meals and visits have been a great comfort to my family and me. In Christian Love, Rachel LeSuer
