This unit is about taking responsibility Ior managing, prioritising and being accountable Ior your own work
in a business environment.

Explain the purpose and benefits of setting high standards for your own work and
describe ways of setting high standards for own work.
It is important to set high standards Ior my work because then it will help me to do the
best levels oI perIormance, productivity and help me get recognized at work in a
positive way.
They can be deIined in term oI work rate, service levels, and error rate.
High standards are essential at work because they set out the targets that you should aim
to meet in many areas oI your work and which required: practice, learning, Iocus,
motivation.
My beneIits are:
O Job and personal satisIaction
O Motivation
O SelI-esteem
O Respect.

There are diIIerent ways which you can set high standards Ior your own work:
O IdentiIy speciIic tasks that take you the longest time to complete.
O Listing the main duties that you undertake each day.
O Working out how many items you usually process per minute or per
hour.
O Listing the main contacts both internal and external you speak to each
day.

Explain the purpose and benefits of accepting setbacks and dealing with them.

The main advantage oI accepting setbacks at work you can move Iorward with your
other work commitments with minimum disruption.
Learning to cope with setbacks which allow you to save time by not worrying over
something that is out oI your control.
Setbacks at work happen to us all Irom time to time, causing us problems Ior
completing a task or perIorming to the required standards. A better approach would be
not to take the matter personally and instead:
O Accept that it has happened and identiIy what you can now do, in view
oI setback, to move Iorward in the most eIIective way.
O Ensure that you do not waste your valuable time worrying about things
over which you have no control.
O Learn Irom any mistakes that you have made, this will enable you to do
better next time.
O InIorm your colleagues.
O Adjust your plans.
O Renegotiate targets.

Why is it important to review your achievements and learning plan regularly?

O The most important aspect oI reviewing your learning is thinking about
what you have learnt and those you have not.
O Regular reviews oI your learning plan will help you track your
achievements as you gain Iurther experience and develop greater expertise.
O The actions to be undertaken ensure that the target is achieved.
O Talk to your manager to identiIy new opportunities Ior targets that you still
want to achieve.
O Keep your old learning plans saIe until you have updated, example in your
CV to include your new skills. Then your CV reIlects your additional
abilities iI you applied Ior a new job in the Iuture.

If you experience a setback, how should you cope with this and how can you
remain positive?

Explain the purpose and benefits of being assertive, and its meaning in work tasks,
and then give examples of work situations where it is necessary to be assertive.
Give an example of when you have shown assertiveness in your workplace.

Assertiveness is being able to stand up Ior you, making sure your opinions, needs, rights
and Ieelings are considered and not letting people always get their way.

consideration. How is this beneficial and what does it bring to the workplace?

It is very important at work to behave ways to demonstrate your honesty, respect and
consideration Ior others. The best policy at work to behave honesty in your interactions
and discussion with other, this will go long way towards gaining a good reputation
among your colleagues, being respectIul and considerate oI others requires the ability
to acknowledge that colleagues may have a completely opposing view to yours.

Types of behaviour at work that show honesty, respect and consideration:

O Listening to others and giving them time and attention.
O Taking on board the opinion oI a colleague, even iI you disagree, shows
you respect their opinion.
O Owning up to errors, taking responsibility and being accountable
shows honesty, integrity and respect.
