1. SCOPE Reference to the comment by the Consultant forwarded by the Contractor to XXXX, the following are incorporated to the method statement: 1. Number of core test not less than three (3) nos (Note that the actual number of cores and the location of coring shall be decided by the Client upon confirmation by the Consultant). 2. Confirmation of the starting date (information has to be advised by the Client and to comply to item no 3 below). 3. Core test shall be taken place after 28days from the casting date. 4. Diameter of core shall be 75mm and depth 300mm. 2. REFERENCES

Clients reference drawing/ sketch/plans/specification/instructions (to be provided by the Client) BS EN 12504-1:2000 BS EN 12390-3:2002

3. RESOURCES Major plant to be used includes: Generator 3500HP Concrete Drill Machine with core barrels & drill bits Compression Testing Machine, Weighing Balance, Caliper, Gauges Other laboratory facilities Pick-up vehicle for hauling/transporting 4. RESPONSIBILITIES Laboratory Manager : Ensures that resources are available and sufficient to meet the work program. Reviews and monitors the resources, work schedule and accomplishments on a daily basis.

Supervisor/Sr. Inspector: Direct supervision of the area and ensure proper working practices. Also acts as safety officer to ensure including plants/equipments/safe moving within the work area/and PPEs are worn at all times. Technician : Receives and executes the instruction from the senior inspector or site engineer for the proper execution of all in-situ testing and inspection. : Provides the required and/or proper reference drawing/sketches/plans and other information to be used in the execution of the work. Assist the team in acquiring the necessary permits/gate passes in the work location. Coordination for proper execution of the work and that all works are being fulfilled as per their specifications/instructions.

5. HEALTH & SAFETY Access to the work area will be through the designated route as informed by the Client Representative assigned to this project. Safety procedures shall be explained to the supervisor/engineer and relayed to all the staff during the tool box meeting which shall be done prior to each days work. Proper PPEs shall be worn at all times in the work area.

6. SEQUENCE OF WORK

IN-SITU TEST / SITE WORKS (NOTE: Ensure proper location and other related information i.e. diameter and depth/length of coring is verified as per clients information or supplied drawing/sketches). 6.1

Position the core drill with the core barrel perpendicular to the concrete surface at the specified sampling location. The machine shall be fixed on the structures with anchor bolts. Cores should be preferably taken at points away from joints or edges of the concrete element and where there is little or no reinforcement. Turn on the core barrel equipment and lower the rotating barrel steadily with just sufficient pressure to start cutting. Keep the drill rigidly positioned during coring
Continue the coring until the specified length/depth. Cores for strength testing should

consider the diameter of the core and possible adjustment during testing. Stop the barrel rotation and turn off the equipment. Raise the core barrel and remove the core from the hole using core retrieval equipment .
Clearly and indelibly mark each cored sample. Collect the cores and put into plastic. Also

mark the plastic containing the cored sample with appropriate sample number identification. 6.6 Complete the log or form relevant to the conducted coring works; i.e to record its location, orientation within the element from which it has been drilled, segment number if it was cut to produce a number of specimens, project information and other pertinent details.
6.7 6.8 6.9 Carry out visual examination of the cored specimen and record any findings/abnormalities.

Fill the core holes with appropriate concrete mix/grout/epoxy approved by the Client. Core holes shall be dry and clean prior to filling.
Forward the cored specimen to the laboratory together with the filled-out forms/log for testing and further evaluation.

LABORATORY TEST 6.10 Re-examine the cored specimen and record any abnormalities. Verify all records from the in-situ test and record in the proper test worksheets. 6.11 Measure the core diameter, core length, diameter of reinforcement (if any). 6.12. Prepare the end of the cores for compression tests in accordance with relevant specification or specification supplied/preferred by the Client. 6.13 Prepare the cored specimen to check for flatness, perpendicularity and straightness. 6.14 If it is required to test the specimen in a saturated condition, soak it in water at 202C for at least 40 hours before testing. Also record the storage condition of the specimen. 6.14 Prepare the cored specimen for compression testing in accordance with BS EN 12390-3. Record the surface condition (wet/dry) of the specimen at the time of test 6.15 Prepare the calculation and express the results as per the relevant specifications.
