Oakland University Education Leadership Program Plan of Work Student: Casey Conaton Mentor: Greg Oke, Peck Elementary

Michigan Standard 1 Articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision Goal: Develop leadership skills and knowledge of the school improvement process. Activity (Leadership and Participation): I will chair the committee responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating our schools plan. I will also serve of a sub committee that is formed in collaboration of the school improvement plan. Timeline: Activities will continue throughout the year. Support needed: District/administrator will need to allow for PD to prepare my understanding of the school improvement plan and how to implement it. Michigan Standard 2 Sustaining a school culture and instructional program. Goal 1: To develop knowledge of current curriculum and future changes due to Common Core. Activity (participant): To participate in Professional Development that will enable growth in my knowledge of Common Core and how to translate knowledge to the staff. Timeline: Activities will continue throughout the 2011-2012 year. Resources Needed: PD on Common Core Goal 2: To plan and deliver professional development chosen by collaboration between student and mentor. Activity: Through collaboration I will develop and then deliver professional development to the staff that will be directly beneficial to the staff and students of Peck Elementary. Timeline: Ongoing Michigan Standard 3 Management of organization, operations, and resources. Goal 1: Writing a grant proposal to obtain additional resources for my classroom.

Activity (participant and leadership): I will write a grant for the Center Line Foundation in October in an effort to receive technology resources for my classroom. Timeline: Development, implementation, and documentation activities through October 2011 through May 2012. Goal 2: Planning and conducting of the Beats, Arts, and Smarts event at Crothers Elementary in June 2011. Activity (participant and leadership): I will co-chair the Beats, Arts, and Smarts committee and develop and manage the events and staff that will be part of the event. Timeline: Present until June 2011 Resources Needed: Time to collaborate with staff about participation in event. Michigan Standard 4 Collaborating with community and responding to diversity. Goal: To provide data to the staff of the achievement gap that is present in the building. Activity: Analyze school data that represents the achievement gap in the building and hold a staff meeting about the findings to discuss the difference between achievement and opportunity gaps and what we can do as a staff to lessen those gaps. Timeline: Two years. 2011-2012 to analyze data and report findings. 2012 2013 to analyze changes (if any) in the gap. Resources Needed: Data director training or other training that would allow for use of student data. Michigan Standard 5 Acting with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner. Goal: To develop an understanding of district student discipline procedures. Activity (observer): I will sit in with administration as they determine disciplinary actions for behavior in school. Timeline: Ongoing Resources Needed: Availability to attend meetings with administration.

Michigan Standard 6 Understanding, responding to and influence the larger political, social, economic, legal and cultural context. Goal: To research and inform district on a select policy issue (to be determined by administrator mentor). Activity (leadership and participation): I will research a policy issue that my mentor and myself found to be informative and imperative for the staff to know and will be given time at a staff meeting to present findings for the staff. Timeline: Research throughout winter 2011-12 and present findings in Spring 2012. Resources Needed: Possible PD (if needed) to develop an understanding of the policy issue. Michigan Standard 7 Understands and comprehensively applies technology. Goal: To provide staff with useful ways they can prepare lesson plans online, in an effort to be environmentally safe and more organized. Activity (participation and leadership): I will attend a lesson plan writing workshop about online resources for teachers and present my findings at a staff meeting. Timeline: Workshop is January 19, 2011. Staff meeting presentation can be in the weeks following. Resources Needed: None _______________________________________________________________________ _
