This is the time of year when we are reminded to wash our hands and cover our sneezes to avoid spreading a flu-bug or virus. I contend, however, that there is one virus to which we should all be exposed and should make every effort to pass along to everyone we meet. It is the Advent Virus. I wish I could take credit for having written the following poem, but it has been circulated for ten years or so, seemingly by an anonymous author. Be on the alert for symptoms of inner HOPE, PEACE, JOY AND LOVE. The hearts of a great many have already been exposed to this virus and it is possible that people everywhere could come down with it in epidemic proportions. This could pose a serious threat to what has, up to now, been a fairly stable condition of conflict in the world. Some signs and symptoms of The Advent Virus: A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than on fears based on past experi-
A loss of interest in judging other people. A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others. A loss of interest in conflict. A loss of the ability to worry. (This is a very serious symptom.) Frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation. Contented feelings of connectedness with others and nature. Frequent attacks of smiling. An increasing tendency to let things happen rather than make them happen. An increased susceptibility to the love extended by others as well as the uncontrollable urge to extend it.
Please send this warning out to everyone. This virus can and has affected many systems. Advent is the season when we reflect on the difference between the world as it is, and the world as God intended it to be. It is the liturgical time of year in which we prepare to receive the Prince of peace, and learn a new way to live and love. If we were all to be afflicted with the Advent Virus and make a concerted effort to practice virtues of kindness, patience and nonjudgmentalism, we just might help achieve peace on earth. May the joy, peace and love of the season be with you . . . and may the Advent Virus remain in you forever. Blessings, Dee Lindblom

Macaylah, now cancer-free, still faces many challenges. Through our Christmas Joy Offering, the Whitlock family is facing those challenges with renewed financial AND spiritual strength. For this deserving family - and many others- your gifts count. Funds distributed by the Assistance Program of the Board of Pensions support income supplements, shared grants, emergency assistance grants and housing supplements for faithful servants in the Presbyterian Church. The other half of this offering supports Presbyterianrelated racial ethnic schools and colleges in Concord, NC, Tempe, AZ, Knoxville, TN, Albuquerque, NM, Kingsville, TX and Tuscaloosa, AL. NOTE: At the 9:00 am Education Hour On Sunday, Dec 18, a special speaker, Jim Matthews from the PC (USA) office, will discuss our Christmas Joy Offering. Everyone will have an opportunity to contribute a donation during the service.

Lets Watch the Mitten Tree Begin to Sprout with Your Warm Contributions from Mary Elrod
The weather is turning colder and the season of sharing is upon us which means its time to invite Trinity members to contribute mittens, gloves, hats and scarves for the children of John A. Johnson Achievement Plus Community School, a St. Paul School whose principal is Trinity member Melissa Lehmann. Our Mitten Tree will be located in the Welcome Room beginning Nov. 27 and continuing through December. Please consider decorating the tree with winter items for Johnson students in pre-school through 6th grade.

With 98 percent of the students qualifying for free and reduced price lunch and many with family incomes below $10,000 per year, the need for assistance is very real and greatly appreciated. This school is working very hard to improve the education and future prospects for these children. With this years addition of an extra hour of academic time and a program to encourage cooperation between home and school, Melissa and her staff are doing their part. In addition, many community groups use the school facility to provide everything from tutoring to food, clothing and shelter to health In these challenging economic times, services.
