International Student Application Guidelines 2012

Fees: A deposit of R700 in respect of boarding fees, should you wish to apply for university residence accommodation. You have to pay R550, application fee; therefore the remainder of the deposit fee of R700 must still be paid. Language Proficiency Test: If you arent from an English Speaking country, you are required to write a language proficiency test which is available at the Potchefstroom Campus. You can contact them on: +27 (0)18 299 1048; Fax: +27 (0)18 299 4048. You can also do the TOEFL / IELTS Test which is available on the website : www.toefl.org ; www.ietls.org

The university is not permitted to register you until you have produced a valid study permit if applicable

Medical Aid Cover: According to the Immigration Amendment Act 19 of 2004, any student who wants to register at an educational institution with a study permit must have appropriate South African medical cover. You are required to furnish us with proof of medical cover for yourself, which is accepted by the South African government; as well as proof of payment thereof.

If you are a holder of a Work or Business Permit you may apply for an endorsement to study parttime
Postgraduate evaluation of postschool qualifications at SAQA: All post-school qualifications need to be evaluated by SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority) before you can apply for admission. SAQA can be contacted at +27 (0)12 431-5070 or e-mail ncoetzee@saqa.co.za / dmhlongo@saqa.co.za. You will find the application form on the following website: http://www.saqa.org.za/docs/brochure s/ceeq_form.pdf . Apply for this well in advance for it can take some time to process.

Undergraduate evaluation of results at Matriculation Board: You have to have your results evaluated at the Matriculation Board before you can apply for admission. Contact the Matriculation Board on +27 (0)11 481-2712/2718. Web address: http://www.hesaenrol.ac.za. You will find the application form on the following website: http://olsa.hesaenrol.ac.za/hesa/OnlineAppForm.do ?event=getEDBData&indicator=0 . Apply for this well in advance for it can take some time to process.

Passport : Please furnish us with your passport

Proof of residence: Please furnish us with a document that proves where you are residing in South Africa, e.g. Rates/Taxes bill, Water/Electricity bill. Rent agreement

Apply for Study Permit: You need the following to apply for a study permit in South Africa: Study Permit: Anyone who is not a permanent resident, refugee or asylum seeker etc. needs to apply for a valid study permit. The university is not allowed to register a student until you have provided them with your valid study permit. Complete form BI 159 Passport valid for not less than 30 days after intended studies Administrative fee of R1092 Confirmation and proof of payment of a South African Medical Aid cover. Cover must remain valid for the duration of the calendar year. Letter of offer from the University Medical and Radiological reports (form BI 811) Yellow Fever vaccination certificate, if relevant Relevant documentation if married, widowed, divorced or separated Details with regards to accommodation in South Africa Proof of sufficient funds Police clearance certificate Cash deposit or a return ticket to country of origin

Part-time Study: If you are a holder of a valid Work or Business permit you may apply for an endorsement to study parttime.

Apply for endorsement to study parttime: There is no cost for the endorsement Complete form BI 1739 Letter of offer from the University Proof of Medical Cover Proof of Finance Proof of Employment

Part-time work: The holder of a valid study permit may conduct part-time work for 20 hours a week and when the university is closed full-time work

Changing conditions of a Study Permit: Students who wish to transfer from one tertiary institution to another must apply for a change of conditions on their study permit. The requirements are the same as applying for a study permit.
