Training leaders for Christ

For Christ sake, rest!...
This is the advise we constantly get from friends and supporters. Last month, a bit hesitantly because of our heavy schedule, we took the advise seriously and went to Guatemala, with the idea of taking some time off, visit family, and enjoy the country. In the middle of it all, we also had the opportunity to do ministry that we thought was important and relevant.

Iglesia Bblica El Camino

enrique.fernandez@efca.org Quique had the joy of preaching in the church that we helped to plant at becky.fernandez@efca.org ProMETA the end of the 80s. By the grace of the Lord, the church is very healthy, continues to grow, and has a significant interest in missions. In the last ten years they have joined hands with other local churches to send missionaries to the Muslim world, other countries, as well as to different areas in Guatemala. We also had the privilege of meeting with the Board of Elders and the Missions Committee. It was very refreshing to hear their testimonies about what the Lord is doing to expand the Kingdom through their ministries.

What a joy to visit IBEC and worship the Lord with friends.

Seminario Teolgico Centroamericano (SETECA)

SETECA, in Guatemala, is a sound theological school that is training a large number of leaders through its different programs. ProMETA has signed a partnership agreement with SETECA, and we are in conversations to develop common projects. In this trip Quique had the privilege of speaking in chapel, on a day dedicated to celebrate students that will participate on short term missions projects at the end of the year. Most of them will go to different parts of the world in fulfillment of requirements for graduation.

Los Olivos Christian Mission (Sumpango)

Since Los Olivos became the first Evangelical Free Church in Guatemala, its leaders have implemented a significant plan focused on four areas: ministry, health, education, and development. With the assistant of several partner churches in the U.S., they planted a church; have built schools for the public system; provide latrines, stoves, and water filters for poor families; and built the only playground in the city. While in Guatemala, Quique met with the leaders to design a sustainability plan, so that their ministry and vision will last for a long time. As a result, we are determining a curriculum and a calendar that will achieve such a goal.

Family Vacation
Yes, we did go to the beach! Guatemala has wonderful beaches on the Pacific Ocean, with black sand and strong tides that surfers love to ride. We had the opportunity to spend time with Quiques brother and his wife, along with one of Quiques cousin and wife. We praise the Lord for his creation, which we enjoy and recognize as representatives of his majesty and glory, as well as his love for man, whom he created to worship him as a creator God.

Research Course
Part of our time in Guatemala was used by Quique to work on the research course that he and Dr. Pike wrote. We are glad that several students are taking the course this current term.

A new term
We praise the Lord for the 48 students that are taking our courses this term. These are leaders who want to serve better the Lord and the ministries they are leading.

Prayer Requests
1.Quique will be traveling to Lima, Peru, September 17-22, to sign a partnership with Seminario Evanglico de Lima. They will also explore ways to cooperate as we together train Christian leaders around the world. Please pray for safety, wisdom, and Gods hand upon these plans. 2.Pray for our students. They need extra energy and concentration to meet all the demands of the courses they are taking, apart from ministry and family responsibilities. 3.September 26-30, we are going to have a series of meetings in Costa Rica, to participate in training of our faculty, as well as to evaluate the fulfillment of the goals we set three years ago. The results will help us plan for the future.
