Prerequisites

Make sure your system meets the following requirements.

Minimum Technical Requirements

Customers must conform to the supported platforms for the release as detailed in the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Minimum Technical Requirements. In addition, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne may integrate, interface, or work in conjunction with other Oracle products. Refer to the following link for cross-reference material in the Program Documentation for Program prerequisites and version cross-reference documents to assure compatibility of various Oracle products. http://www.oracle.com/corporate/contracts/index.html Access the current Minimum Technical Requirements (MTR) for the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.00 client from Metalink3: https://metalink3.oracle.com/od/faces/secure/km/DocumentDisplay.jspx?id=705409.1.

Additional Considerations
1. Be sure the MTRs are met before starting the Standalone Client installation. 2. The Standalone Client does not support Internet Explorer 7. 3. The Standalone Client does not support Windows Server 2003 or Vistaonly Windows XP. 4. JDK 1.5 is required. JDK 1.6 and higher have not been validated with EnterpriseOne as of November, 2008. 5. Microsoft Visual Studio is not required unless you are building business functions. The installation of the Standalone Client installs the Microsoft libraries that are necessary to run EnterpriseOne, but if you plan to build business functions, you will need the compiler and additional libraries that Visual Studio provides. 6. Verify that all previous releases of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne have been completely uninstalled or saved via Snapshot before installing the EnterpriseOne 9.00 Standalone client.

GA.Rev1

Prerequisites

7. EnterpriseOne 9.00 Standalone Client does not require Software Protection Codes (SPCs) to run so you will not need to perform the steps for applying SPCs that previous EnterpriseOne releases required.

Installing the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.00 Standalone Client

Installing the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.00 Languages Standalone Client for SSE
This section applies only to installing the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.00 Languages Standalone Client running against a local Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition (SSE) database. The English-only versions and the multiple language versions using the local Oracle database follow the normal installation steps in the section Installing the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.00 Standalone Client. The spec databases for the multiple language version of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne E900 Standalone Client running against a local SSE database required splitting into multiple installation files. These files were grouped based on an arbitrary grouping of languages. To install the multiple language Standalone Client for SSE 1. When you run InstallManager.exe for the SSE version of the multiple language Standalone Client installer, you will see the following screen:

Post Installation Tasks

After installing the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.00 Standalone client, you must perform the following post installation tasks:

Updating the tnsnames.ora file (Oracle Local Database Only) Installing the Required JDK Note: The JDK may be downloaded directly from Sun Microsystems.

Updating the tnsnames.ora file (Oracle Local Database Only)

Note: This process is applicable only if you are using Oracle as the local database on your Standalone Client and this machine is used to connect to other Oracle databases (i.e., those that were not installed as part of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Standalone Client installation). The Oracle local database that is installed with the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Standalone Client is called E1Local. It has its own copy of the tnsnames.ora file which is used to define how a connection to the database is made (e.g., port number, SID). If you have other Oracle databases installed on this machine or access remote Oracle databases, other tnsnames.ora files will define those connection parameters. Unfortunately, the tnsnames.ora for the last installed Oracle database is used by any software running on your local machine to access all the Oracle databases. Because the E1Local database should have been installed during the installation of the EnterpriseOne Standalone Client, it should be the last database installed; therefore, the E1Locals tnsnames.ora file needs to be updated with the database connection information that is stored in the other tnsnames.ora files on your machine. Follow these steps to update the newly installed Oracle local databases tnsnames.ora . To update the tnsnames.ora file 1. Edit the new tnsnames.ora file located in this directory: C:\Oracle\E1Local\NETWORK\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora

Copyright 2008, Oracle. All rights reserved

GA.Rev1

20

Post Installation Tasks

2. Edit the tnsnames.ora files on your machine for any other Oracle databases that you may access (whether remote or local databases). These tnsnames.ora files will be located in the NETWORK\ADMIN directory under the Oracle database clients installation directories (e.g., c:\Apps\db\oracle102\NETWORK\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora). 3. Copy the contents of these other tnsnames.ora files to the end of the new JD Edwards EnterpriseOne local version of the file.

Post Installation Tasks

Installing the Required JDK

You must install a supported Java Development Kit (JDK) in order to support the standard configuration that relies on a standalone version the Oracle Application Server that is delivered by the Standalone client installation. The JDK must reside in a directory on the Standalone client. To complete this task, you must obtain the required JDK from SUN Microsystems and install it on the Standalone client machine. Refer to the Minimum Technical Requirements in the section Clients > Development Clients > OC4J 10g Standalone, to determine the correct JDK required for this installation. Note: It is strongly advised that the machine on which you are installing has network connectivity during this JDK installation, as updates and libraries may be required from the Sun site as the installation proceeds. If the machine does not have network connectivity, the installer may appear to complete normally but the complete directory structure required for Standalone client may not be present.

To install the required JDK 1. On the Standalone client, create two JDK directories in these paths: c:\Temp\JDK c:\E900\system\JDK 2. Navigate to this Sun Microsystems website: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp On the displayed web page, locate the JDK version specified in the Minimum Technical Requirements for the JD Edwards Standalone Client. If the current release of the JDK version is greater than that specified by the MTRs, you may need to drill down further on the Sun web site. For example, from the main index there may be a tab or a link for Previous Releases of the JDK. 3. Once the requisite JDK has been located, click the download button, review the license agreement and if you choose to accept, select the Accept option to accept the license agreement. 4. On Save As, navigate to a temporary directory on your local drive (for example, c:\Temp) and click Save.

GA.Rev1

22

Post Installation Tasks

5. The program downloads the JDK self-extracting executable to the temporary directory. Note: Do not download the .exe file of the JDK into the JDK directory that you created in Step 1. The reason is because when you extract this file, the file cannot exist in the same directory into which the extraction occurs.

6. From Microsoft Windows Explorer, navigate to the temporary directory from Step 4, highlight the downloaded executable, and double click the executable program to run it. 7. If you receive a security warning, select Run. 8. Review the Sun license agreement, and if you accept, select the Accept option and click Next. 9. On the Java 2 SDK InstallShield Wizard, use the browse function to change to this directory that you created in step 1: c:\Temp\JDK Note: Do not select the same folder where the install executable is located; the installation destination folder must be different.

10. Accept all other default values and click Next. 11. Deselect all Browser Registration options. 12. Click Install. The installation process takes several minutes. 13. When the process is complete click Finish. 14. Navigate to this directory: C:\Temp\JDK

Starting EnterpriseOne Standalone

To start EnterpriseOne Standalone 1. Launch JD Edwards EnterpriseOne by double clicking activConsole.exe from this directory: c:\E900\system\bin32 Note: Allow sufficient time for all background processes to start before attempting to log in. Even though the login screen appears immediately, wait at least 30 seconds before signing in. Failure to do so may result in security server (process jdenet_n.exe) startup errors.

2. Login to the Standalone client with the user ID DEMO and the password DEMO. If the environment and role fields are shown, take the defaults of environment DEMO900 and role *ALL. 3. If you have installed any Oracle Business Accelerators (OBA), click the Options button to display the environment and role fields. In this case, you

should enter the role: DEMOROLE and take the default environment: DEMO900. To troubleshoot EnterpriseOne Standalone Client startup errors If you have any trouble running the Standalone client, turn on additional logging and rerun the Standalone client. 1. Run the Windows Task Manager. 2. Kill these processes if they are running: activConsole.exe jdenet_n.exe

3. Edit the c:\Windows\jde.ini file. 4. In the Debug section, change the value of the Output key to FILE (without the quotes). 5. Take note of the names of the log files specified for the JobFile and DebugFile keys in the Debug section. 6. Run activConsole.exe from the c:\E900\system\bin32 directory. 7. Attempt to sign into the Standalone client. Logs are generated in the directory specified by the JobFile and DebugFile keys in the Debug section of the jde.ini. However, the names of the files will be of the forms jde_pid_mmddyy.log or jdedebug_pid_mmddyy.log where pid is the ID of the process generating the log. mmddyy is the month, day, and year in which the log was generated.

You can determine which process ID belongs to each E1 process by noting the process IDs and names shown in the Windows Task Explorer and by examining the first few lines of the generated logs. 8. If you get an error (either in a pop-up window or in the logs) indicating that the Standalone client could not connect to the security server, try the following:

26

Starting EnterpriseOne Standalone

a. Try again to sign on. The security server (process jdenet_n.exe) may have simply been slow in starting causing the activConsole.exe to time out. b. By default, the Standalone client attempts to start the web client at the same time that activConsole.exe starts. This could cause the security server (process jdenet_n.exe) to take too long to start causing the activConsole.exe to time out. You can specify that the web client should start only when you attempt to bring up the Web menu (described in the next section). To do so, follow these steps: Run the Windows Task Manager. Kill these processes if they are running: o activConsole.exe o jdenet_n.exe Edit the c:\windows\jde.ini file. Change the value of the StartAppServer key in the [LOCALWEB] section to ONDEMAND. For example: [LOCALWEB] StartAppServer=ONDEMAND Rerun activConsole.exe .

Replacing EnterpriseOne Standalone Tools Release

Replacing EnterpriseOne Standalone Tools Release

The JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.00 Standalone client is shipped with the 8.98.0.1 version of the EnterpriseOne Tools Release. When a newer Tools Release becomes available, you may wish to install that release. Follow the instructions in this section to replace the installed Tools Releasealso called system code. Also, because the H4A installer will be run to configure some files, you will also replace the H4A installer with a newer installer. Note: For the following instructions, we will assume that the folder where you copied the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne installation DVD (in the section entitled Downloading the 9.00 Standalone Client from the Oracle E-Delivery Website) is c:\Standalone_9.00 .

To Replace the System 1. If EnterpriseOne is running, stop it. Verify in Task Manager that the following processes stopped: o activConsole.exe o jdenet_n.exe If either or both of these processes are running, either wait for them to finish or kill them via Task Manager. 2. Because the entire system needs to be replaced, rename the old system directory in your installed EnterpriseOne Standalone Client; that is, c:\E900\system. If you cannot rename the directory, one or more running java.exe processes may have the directory locked. In this case, either reboot your machine or use Task Manager to kill the java.exe processes. 3. Make a backup copy of the H4A installer file called c:\Standalone_9.00\ThirdParty\WebDevFeature\OH4A1 013_setup.exe . 4. Download the appropriate Tools Release WINCLIENT from the Update Center. The download is transferred to your machine as a .par file. This file may be opened with the standard WinZip program.

GA.Rev1

29

Replacing EnterpriseOne Standalone Tools Release

Note: Do NOT open the .par file by double clicking on it. It is a selfextracting file that is normally installed on a deployment server.
