Implications from the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights

Roundtable The University of Sevilla- Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovacin de Espaa- EIUC roundtable will be held at the Monastery of San Nicol on the topic of "The Responsibility of Spanish TCNs in the field of Human Rights: Implications from the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights" The roundtable initiates a research project on La responsabilidad de las empresas transnacionales espaolas en el mbito de los derechos humanos: hacia un marco de poticas pblicas funded be the Spanish Ministry for Science and Innovation (Miciin). The roundtable will begin on the morning of 12 th July 2011 and will conclude on the 13th of July. The idea is to bring the scholars that take part in the research project for an

intensive two-day discussion and exchange of views on the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights submitted by the SR to the Human Rights Council taking into account the field of study of the University of Sevilla research project on the Responsibility of Spanish TCNs in the field of Human Rights . The participants are kindly asked to present papers for the purposes of discussion and comments and these will later be revised and published as a scholarly collection at the end of November 2011. Background In December 2010, the University of Sevilla in Spain was granted for a threeyear-period a research project on the Responsibility of Spanish TCNs in the field of Human Rights. The project is lead by Prof. Carmen Mrquez Carrasco. The Venice roundtable is the forum to discuss and further develop some of the initial research findings and proposals of the project as well as to plan future research activities. The grant for the project was made available by the Ministry of Science and Innovation which is also financing the Venice roundtable. Support is also given by the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC). The roundtable is being jointly organized by Carmen Mrquez (University of Seville) and Luis Rodrguez-Piero (University of Seville. Also helping to organize and support the roundtable Participants
