Two-Week Bulletin Coming: The bulletin for Sunday, Dec. 25th

and Sunday, Jan. 1st will be combined into a two-week bulletin; many parishes do this to alleviate stress during the Christmas season. Please email any announcements for the two-week bulletin to Mercy at mercyb@stphilipneripdx.org by no later than Monday, Dec. 19th. Thank you!

Retired Religious need your support. By 2019, it is projected

Your gift to the Retirement Fund for Religious helps ensure that elderly Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests receive the care they so richly deserve, now and in the future. Please give generously to todays second collection.

Reminder about Year-End Giving: We have all received requests

for our generosity to charitable giving at the end of this year. We discern who to give to, the amount and if we are even able to give this year. Giving is a joyful act, an opportunity and a desire to continue to build Gods kingdom, for our Paulist parish and for the Catholic church. As good stewards, we are called to give in proportion to our blessings. Whether your gift is in the form of a stewardship pledge, a year-end gift or an extra contribution, the financial support you give to St. Philip Neri is greatly appreciated. No matter the size, your gift assists in our mission of welcoming all. If you have questions regarding year-end and/or planned giving, contact Jeanne at the office at 503-231-4955, Ext. 103. (From Supporting Our Faith Community, National Catholic Stewardship Council, Inc.) May the spirit of the Christ Child remain alive in your hearts this Christmas season. Jeanne McPherson, Business Mgr.

Please put what you can share into the marked envelope and return it to Barbara in the vestibule, put it in the Offertory basket or take it to the parish office. Thank you.

Advent Reconciliation Service: As we celebrate the birth of Jesus,

we think about how we give birth to Christ in our own daily lives. One way is to reconcile who we are and ask God for healing. Please take time this Advent to attend the Advent Reconciliation Service,

Wednesday, Dec. 14, 7pm. The love of God can heal us and the sacrament of Reconciliation is a good place to start.

Pastoral Corner

December 11, 2011

Greetings!
Every year at the beginning of December we get the, Please give us a list of what you would like for Christmas requests from our daughters. And every year it gets more difficult to think of things we want or need. Were past 60 and instead of getting things we are trying to get-rid-of- things. Even some of our books! Interestingly enough, this year the list request came with a reminder--- Lets do practical, useful things----put some thought into it. About the same time we received the request---I received several articles suggesting that we support the American economy as much as we can. So---here are some suggestions for your Christmas list to give and get.

* Barber or salon certificate attached to a new brush or comb * Car wash/detailing coupon * Family movie tickets/ Papa Murphys pizza * Magazine subscription *Favorite foods they wouldnt buy for themselves (an expensive cheese w/crackers, a special coffee/tea) *Sunday breakfast coupon (for parish breakfast or Elmers or IHOP at Cascade Station) * Yard work * Teach someone how to cook/bake something----their choice * Teach someone how to sew something *Transport to the grocery store once a month *Dedicate the second Sunday of each month (5 months?) to game day either w/your family or friends ---they bring the munchies *Pay for an oil change on a car/motorcycle *Hire a cleaning person for one day *Take someone to a local play *Make a First Aid box to carry in the car *Make a road kit (reflectors/cables/emergency sign) *Offer to bring someone to Mass or a parish event
If you have some great ideas----please share them with me. Its never too late to share ways to reach out to others.

Deo Gratias, Barbara Marie Harrison
