RAYERS are whispered day and night. Tears flow like spring without an end. Help rushes from all sectors. All these are dedicated to the dream for a sweet freedom for Flory Mae Talaban, a teacher from the City of Smile Bacolod City. Showmie as she is fondly called by those close to her hearts, all those sympathies and prayers for her all seemed useless. She still lingers behind the walls of the Correctional Institution for Female Offenders, a minimum security prison, in Bangkok, Thailand.

Flory Mae Showmie Talaban, a native of Bacolod City, Philippines is serving a life sentence in Thai prison for allegedly trafficking more than two kilos of heroin.

Why NBI man meets Customs players?

THE presence of an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation in the conference of Customs players mystifies port observers, but not the informant of Dyaryo Magdalo. According to our informant, the NBI agent was identified as Noe, a former operator of the defunct Presidential AntiSmuggling Group. Noe reportedly enhanced his knowledge on illegal processes at the bureau when he operated at the forefront of a battle against smuggling during his heydays at PASG. Accordingly, Noe is identified with the NBI Deputy Director Atty. Edmund Arugay who is in charge of investigating government officials who have raked in for themselves questionable wealth. As confirmed by the source, Arugay was namedropped by Noe in his meeting with the players who are also coined as big-time smugglers who felt hard times in their business deals at the bureau. The conference The conference of smugglers happened inside the Sulo Hotel during the first month in office of General Danilo Lim as the Customs Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence. While the players were talking among themselves, a certain Rolly arrived. He was identified as the representative of Commissioner Ruffy Biazon. Actually, according to another source, Rolly has been persistently said to be presiding a group of collectors dropping the names of Biazon and Lim. Rumors circulating at the bureau revealed that Rolly has the blessings of Biazon and Lim. Rolly is the head of an office under the Intelligence and Investigation Group, has denied this. Flory Mae was convicted by the Thai First Court, the equivalent of the countrys regional trial court, for possessing more than five (5) kilos of heroin with intent to sell. Since her ordeal was made public in April 2011, the local government of Bacolod City and Philippine Embassy in Thailand left no stone unturned in seeking her release from the Thai correctional wall. Despite their rush, it is impossible to give her freedom this Christmas day. The failure of the embassy was perceived to be its late response to the case against Flory Mae. There was no embassy representative that assisted her during the filing of the case. There was no envoy during court hearings. There was no legal assistance until the

guilty verdict was pronounced and the court meted her life imprisonment. One possibility for freedom can come from the pardon of the King of Thailand, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. But this royal reprieve requires with her admission to the illegal drug trade. But she has remained insistent she is not guilty. An educated woman for having graduated with Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Bacolod Citys University of St. La Salle, Flory Mae refused to change her plea of not guilty because, if her story is true, Dyaryo Magdalo firmly believes she must be acquitted. She has a face that is too pretty to be guilty. Indeed, it is very painful and unreasonable for an innocent

woman to admit the crime that sent her beyond the reach of her loved ones. And because of her refusal, the grant for the pardon from the Thai King is impossible to come. The second option is through the Transfer of Sentence Agreement (TSPA) between the Philippines and Thailand that was formalized in 2002. The TSPA will send back Flory Mae from Thailand to the Philippines where she will continue to serve her sentence while her appeal was still pending before the Thai Appellate Court. The September 2011 publicity stunt of Dela Cruz was all about a package sorter (postwoman) who was caught on a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera while allegedly stealing money from a parcel at the Central Mail Exchanges Center (CMEC) in Pasay City. For information, CMEC is the first line of defense against smuggling of highly-dutiable goods in parcels that entered into the country through Philippine international airports. Charged with qualified theft were Postman 1 Lovelyn de Leon of the parcel division and Customs Examiner Omar Said. The video footage showed that De Leon opened a package and

retrieved a white envelope from the back of a cellphone while a man, identified as Said, looked on. Dela Cruz said De Leon and Said seemed partners in perfecting their crimes. That incident gained Dela Cruz high-level TV, radio and newspaper publicity. After that, all mouths were seemed zipped and words seemed frozen, as if darkness from within has been barred from public knowledge. The two were charged with pocketing a 100-euro bill found hidden inside the battery compartment of a cellular phone that was found among the contents of a mail parcel. However, the investigation seems no end for Philpost released no result till today.

What puzzles us is the silence of Dela Cruz after that incident. Does it mean that she had already contained the syndicates that lorded over Philpost? Or, did she discover the right track into the syndicates? Unknown to Filipinos, Philpost is the milking cow of its officials who became secret millionaires. Actually, one of Philpost board members had made his way to the Commission on Elections for giving campaign fund to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2004 elections. Proved by history, a single blow can never contain the syndicates at the Philpost-CMEC where drugs, guns and other highly-dutiable goods pass through. In fact, what was exposed by Dela Cruz as a syndicate that counted De Leon was no syndicate at all. That was just a publicity stunt of Dela Cruz that misled the public on the goingson of syndicates at the Philpost-CMEC. Anyway, we cannot blame Dela Cruz for exposing what she believed as a syndicate involving De Leon. Dela Cruz, being new at the Philpost and who knew nothing of its discrete operations, might have been misled also by her whispering men. In truth, one of the two big syndicates at the CMEC is the Sipa

This syndicate is netting foreign checks that entered into the country, especially the health insurance checks from the United States. Before the arrival of the health insurance check, a notice is sent informing the recipient that her plea for payment of his/her hospital bills has been approved and the check for the same is to follow. The recipients of the health insurance checks

are family members left in the country by American servicemen. Members of the syndicate are familiar with the faces of envelopes that contained the health insurance checks. They separate these envelopes and sold the checks to another syndicate at the Philpost. This checkbuying syndicate is operating inside Philpost main office at the Liwasang Bonifacion in Lawton, Manila. Sometime in 2005, I wrote about this Check syndicate that turned sour former CMEC Dir. OscarLazo. I was also confronted by agents of Philpost Intelligence Service who underestimated my knowledge on this syndicate. But when they heard my story about a postman in Pampanga who was burned alive due to his greediness on health insurance checks, the agents laughed no more.

Every day, they weep in their sleep, they eat between sobs, they cry in solitude. When they were given a chance to see their daughter in Thailand correctional last April, Florentino

and Nede never felt her skin for they were separated by a glass wall. They moaned on the other side of the glass. They contented themselves in seeing her too near, yet too far. Florentino and Nede placed their palms on the glass and imagined of touching their daughter on the other side. Right there, in between sobs, she shared the chronology of events that caused her sufferings away from their love and caress. Flory Mae who missed the hugs and kisses of her oldies asked for a spaghetti meal, the pasta she missed in jail. She said she is not used to eating Thai food for being too spicy to her taste. When the visiting hour ended, Flory Mae asked her parents to leave her some money to buy Filipino food sold inside the correctional. While travelling home, Florentino and Nede, felt to have lost the precious flower of the family. They named her Flory Mae as a blooming flower in the month of May for she was born on May 2, 1981. Devastated Since her travel and teaching work abroad, Flory Mae became the provider of the family. Her continued detention in Thailand has likely broken the wings of her loved ones. Florentino stuttered when he spoke. To regain his voice, Flory Mae financially supported his medication. Since her arrest, the regular speech therapy session of Florentino was stopped. He can no longer afford to pay P250 for every session. Moreover, her brother who is now in college also dropped from school to earn a living to survive the family. They now face another wreaking Christmas. For the main, the breadwinner is languishing inside the Thai correctional in Bangkok and can no longer give them food. Her story With her ultimate capital beauty and brain, Showmie travelled to a place alien to her. She went to China to teach and earn a living. After her teaching job in China expired, she travelled to Bangkok to find another teaching job with a better pay. But a twist of fate destined her to a tragedy. hind the walls of the Correctional Institute for Female Offenders in Bangkok, Thailand. In 2005, she sought a greener pasture across the seas after she was offered a teaching job in China by her friend Chona Jumilla, a principal of Bailu Middle School in Baily Area, Lizhou City, Guangzi province, China. But in 2009, Showmie found herself jobless. To continue her employment abroad, she transferred to Thailand where she was tricked by a Nigerian, apparently a member of a drug syndicate. With her belief that truth prevails against wrong accusation, Showmie maintained she is innocent of the charge of trafficking more than five (5) kilos of heroin. But when Thailands court meted her life imprisonment for the crime she never did, she hanged her shoulders a little for the truth turned powerless when confronted by pieces of evidence presented against her. Still without the help of the Philippine Embassy in Thailand, Showmie, with the aid of Bayan Muna Representative Neri Colmenares, a lawyer and a native of Bacolod City, she pursued her legal battle by ap-

pealing to Thailands Appellate Court to reverse the decision of the Thai First Court. While staying at an apartment in Bangkok after arriving from China, Showmie met Nigerian national Francisco Yirti who befriended her. On May 3, 2009, a day after her birthday, Yirti asked Showmie a favor to deliver a bag of encyclopedias to a Thai woman in a mall. For her not to disappoint a new-found friend and in expressing the classic Filipina hospitality, Showmie granted his request. But before delivering the goods, Showmie dropped by a Kentucky Fried Chicken chain and ate a piece of chicken. To her surprise, two Thai policemen accosted her and searched her bag and the encyclopedias. To her shock, the police discovered 2.6 kilos of heroin inside her bag. After the investigation, Showmie directed authorities to her apartment where a package containing another 2.8 kilos of heroin was seized. Showmie was charged with illegal possession of the highly-prohibited drug with intent to sell. She maintained her innocence and pleaded not guilty at the Thai

The group counted Noe with an aim of utilizing the power of Arugays office to serve as a weapon of threat among those who refuse to play by the rule of smugglers in the ports. The source explained that the office of Arugay is powerful for it takes

care of surveillance, investigation, and filing of charges against anyone who it suspects to have enriched himself in serving the government. Because of the function of the office of Arugay, many Customs officials are wagging their tails purportedly to make friend with him for them not to be subjected to surveillance. The tandem of big time smugglers and NBI should not be taken for granted, especially by Lim who refuses to sail by the tide of big smugglers. Because Lim cannot be taken slowly and softly, the NBI is surely and secretly subjecting him to surveillance to end the flying colors of his career.

Unless one can present evidence of ill motive on the part of the arresting officers, the declarations of the arresting officers cannot be defeated by the testimonies of the accused, no matter how straightforward, no matter how detailed, no matter how candid those testimonies would be. Now, there are only three kinds of evidence. The first that is given the highest quality is what is called object evidence. Courts describe object as mute but speaks better than a thousand witnesses. The second best evidence is what is called documentary evidence. The third and the weakest kind of evidence is testimonial evidence. Knowing these rules on the weight of evidence given on each kind, we easily see that the only evidence that has a bigger chance of defeating that presumption of truth in the declarations of the arresting officers are those that are documentary or object. But it is impossible to have documentary evidence in a crime that involves no paper trail. Much more that it is impossible to have evidence that involves object under this case.

So that in the drug case of any accused, he or she has always no chance of winning under the system of giving weight to the declarations of the police officers as presumed because of the justification that they just performed their job, or what they call presumption of regularity in the performance of official functions. To understand the presumption of regularity of the law enforcers statements, it means that the declarations of the policemen are assumed to be true, even if the truth is that the evidence was just planted as what always happens in the drug busts in the Philippines. Now, in the case of Showmie, her arrest showed there was no any documentary evidence. Court experience shows that under the single-judge system, documents are the only ones that have the chances of overturning the presumption of weight assumed for the police officers testimonies. In other words, the trial under the singlejudge system that relies on the rules of presumption of evidence, the trial is like a formality to comply with due process and yet the end is assured to be a conviction. This disadvantage

being inherent in the presumption of evidence system led the advocates of Japan to demand the change of their criminal justice system to a trial to be adjudged by a jury. So that jury system was born, again, in Japan in 2004. It is unlike in the jury system where a group of persons chosen from the community by a raffle or at random and interviewed further to determine who have average level of discernment, and further subjected to challenge by lawyers of both the accused and the State. If in the singlejudge system the fate is pre-determined and only a process is observed for formality, the jury system provides an opportunity for the accused to ventilate his or her truth by the power of his or her testimonies to be adjudged by the jurors of peoplenot on the basis of the rule of presumption of the declarations of the police officers. Now, imagine the declarations of Showmie that she was not aware there were kilos of heroin inside the encylopedia books that were requested for her to bring to another woman. If she were aware, she could have not gone first to a Kentucky Fried Chicken chain in Bangkok just

to eat. In fact, she said she even volunteered to the approaching and inquiring police officers the plastic bag and the books to be opened for inspection. Thereafter, she also volunteered to lead the policemen to her apartment where more kilos of heroine were found. She insisted that it was a newly-found Nigerian friend who asked her for an errand to bring that bag. If a person is aware that there is a heroine substance inside the bag he or she is bringing, will he or she still afford to gallivant with time in a risky place? No normal person will do it. Instead, she would not enter that restaurant and find a secure place. The point here is, while it would be true that these kilos of heroine were really found inside that encyclopedia books, it is very apparent that she had no intention to possess, much less intention to sell. Under the principle of the criminal law, the intent to commit a crime is important to be proven beyond reasonable doubt. In the case of possession of drugs, this is called in Latin as animo possedendi. So let us hope that the Court of Appeals of Thailand will reverse Showmies conviction.

Justice through injustice

NOW that a case has already been filed in court against former president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and a hold departure order has been issued against her, barring the embattled official from leaving the country has become legal. Unless she is allowed by the government to leave the country for humanitarian reasons, Arroyo must now stay in the country and answer the election sabotage case filed against her in court by the joint Comelec-DOJ panel. But something tells me that Arroyo may eventually win the case because it was filed in haste. As we all know, haste makes waste. ** While preventing Arroyo from leaving the country has now become lawful, the process that paved the way for it remains questionable. The Department of Justice did not follow the temporary restraining order issued by the Supreme Court against the watchlist order of the DOJ against Arroyo.

The present administration was highly expected to put order in the country. But sadly, it seems to bring chaos that will linger for quite a long time. ** The fixation of the Aquino government on Arroyo has made the president forget his other important promises to the people. The promises include the freedom of information, justice for victims of extra-judicial killings,

Has independence been risked by DOJ-Comelec Panel?

THE pressing public interest on the matter compelled me to come out with this short essay on the issue of whether the so-called DOJ-Comelec joint panel constituted by the Department of Justice and the Commission on Elections is constitutional or not. My purpose is to educate the laymen on the basic principles involved, particularly the idea of independence of a constitutional body like the Comelec so that they would understand and not entertain speculations when the decisions or rulings when these are issued by the Highest Court of the Land. In coming out with this, I do not have any intention to influence the ongoing petition filed by the lawyers of former First Gentleman Mike Arroyo challenging the constitutionality of the same panel. After all, who am I to influence the Supreme Court Justices who cannot be influenced after all because they are people with the best-trained legal mind to judge legal or constitutional issues. Not even the massive Occupy the Supreme Court crowd can sway the gods of knowledge about legal principles during the holding of the oral arguments on the issue of whether to reconsider the Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) issued in favor of Gloria MacapagalArroyo. Moreover, in writing this, I am also impelled by the motive to exercise press freedom or freedom of expression. Our language is truth, our spirit is liberty But before continuing, please do not believe in what I say here but believe in what you perceived as sound in what I say. Further, please allow me to state that I feel Chief Justice Renato Corona stays fair as to the legality of DOJ-Comelec panel. My basis is this: ALL 14 SC JUSTICES VOTED TO REJECT THE APPLICATION OF MIKE ARROYO & CO. TO GET A TRO to stop the DOJ-Comelec panel from continuing its investigation into the allegations of involvement of the former first gentleman in electoral sabotage crimes. And now, let me state: The DOJ-Comelec Panel is perfectly legal and it does not violate the principle of independence or the separation of powers that dictates the landscape of our kind of democracy. This is my take, and you may take the other way. Let me begin by stating that the exclusive power to investigate election offenses is given by the Constitution to the Comelec alone. Then the Constitution represents the Peoples Will. In other words, the powers given to the Comelec are original

in the sense that these were given by the people to it directly through the Constitution. And since its powers to investigate election offenses are original as these are given directly by the people, the Comelec can delegate the exercise of those powers to another office or person, just like the way it deputizes teachers, policemen and soldiers during election time to meet its enormous obligations of making elections honest, free and peaceful. Remember that only those powers that were already delegated are prohibited from being delegated further. This is under the legal principle that says: Potestas delegata non potest delegari. (What has been delegated cannot further be delegated.) The hard and brutal fact for the Comelec is that it has that very big obligation to investigate and prosecute election criminals. Along with this giant work is the reality that it lacks investigating personnel and legal minds who are mostly preoccupied with its own election protest cases, including that one filed by Lito Atienza against Mayor Alfredo S. Lim for the mayoralty of Manila and the one lodged by Peewee Trinidad against Tony Calixto for Pasays case. Against this backdrop is the persistent public clamor to serve justice in the quickest manner. Faced with these problems and the desire to live up to the trust of the public, the Comelec deems it better to use its power to delegate or deputize to make somebody exercise the power to investigate on its behalf with the end view that it will still have the last say whether to approve or reject the result of the investigation works done by other offices. Please take note that since it reserves to it the power to have the last say is, to my mind, an indication of the will of the Comelec to be independent when it decides the issue of whether to approve the recommendations of the investigating deputies. My readers may have better arguments to the contrary and I respect that. Now, we cannot deny that the Comelec knows that with somebody helping it in the work of investigating, it can fulfill better to live up to the trust of the people. The present officials of the Comelec know that in fact, it has been doing the practice of delegating its powers since Marcos time. It has given a standing authority to all prosecutors all over the country to do the work of investigating and handling of inquest proceedings for those arrested by the police while caught in act of committing vote buying, but retaining for itself that power to decide whether to approve the work of the prosecutors or not. And this act of reserving, in my opinion, is an act of asserting its independence. This time, however, it is somewhat different. The Comelec has done what it has not done yet. It has now done the act of WORKING WITH another office outside its sphere of powers given by the Constitution. It has formed a panel with the DOJ to form a fact-finding body composed of personnel of the DOJ and the Comelec to do the task of gathering facts for the purpose of knowing whether to charge certain persons, including Gloria and her husband Mike, with having committed the crimes of electoral sabotage during the 2004 and the 2007 elections. Now, this author is confident to state that

this work with is still within the prerogatives of the Comelec. After all, it is like delegating or deputizing one separate body, this time it is called the DOJ-Comelec panel, to do the preliminary investigation work. Anyway, the power given by the Comelec to the panel is limited to fact-finding and recommending the actions to be taken as a result of the facts found. So that as what happened with Gloria, it was the Comelec alone that decided whether to approve the recommendation of the DOJ-Comelec panel to charge or not Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Recall that the Comelec En Banc voted 5-2 to charge Gloria, Andal Sr. and Lintang Bedol of the crime of electoral sabotage. This is an evidence that the Comelec exercised its independent will on the issue. There is another principle that goes along with. This basic principle says that public service is a public trust. In asking help from the DOJ investigators, the Comelec in fact is holding that public trust in high respect because this will enable it to give the service in the fastest way it can. The faster and more quality the service is, the better that the trust is served. Just imagine the enormous manpower

and machinery needed to gather evidence all over the country to meet the required tasks of investigating electoral sabotage that involved votes from all over the country. By forming a panel with the DOJ that has army of lawyers all over the country, the Comelec can now avail of the legal services of the DOJ and the investigating expertise of the NBI that is under the DOJ. For sure, that DOJComelec panel can help the Comelec fast-track the investigation works against those who stole the Peoples Will in all elections past. Thus, in my opinion, it is very clear that the independence of the Comelec, or the principle of separation of powers, is still preserved clearly between the powers of the Comelec and the powers of the Executive through the DOJ. For sure, when the Comelec En Banc votes to approve or disapprove the recommendations of the DOJ-Comelec panel, the DOJ cannot dictate upon its commissioners, two of whom even never voted for the charging of Gloria, Andal Ampatuan Sr. and Lintang Bedol. After all the bottom line is: Electoral sabotage is the HIGHEST FORM of the robbery of the Peoples Votes.

After the meeting, their transactions went smooth at the bureau, but only for a number of days. This was so, because Lim ordered the Intelligence agents who served as contacts of the players to freeze their hands away from the bureaus business affairs. The players were left with no choice but to join hands in pursuing their most evil plan: to turn to zero the collection of the Bureau of Customs for the month of December 2011.

This plan has the blessing of some importers and some customs men. Any importer who will directly file their entry to the bureau shall be blacklisted by the players. The players will give them hard time whenever the business is back to normal in the next couple of months or years. In the plan, the role of the workers at the bureau is to delay the processing of entry documents of the importers who refuse to abide with the plan of the players. Their plan can be implemented by just non-filing of entry or import entry. The non-

filing of entry would simply show that there is no importation for the month of December despite the actual arrival of imported goods. Due to non-filing of entry, the government will end up to zero tax collection for the whole month of December. My Birthday wish: Candle of Justice

mark my birthday on December 10 (2011) with a big honor of having exceeded my targets set a year ago and going beyond by succeeding in matters that came in shocking fashions, even to the point of making me look a martyr without a cause. I write this to share my experience in the hope others would find good wisdom in it and duplicate the same as a new tradition of relationship to fellow men. I wanted to look good in the eyes of my friends online or offline, my colleagues in the press, the people around me who are poorer than me by a mile, the people who work for and with me, my peers, my co-alumni from Koronadal Central Elementary School, Koronadal National Comprehensive High School, the Mindanao State Universitys all campuses, and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. I am glad I can say I achieved all these beyond my targets, and even broke records nobody has done in what many say in the most shameful way. In so doing, the general wisdom that reigned over me for a year was to place first myself in the shoes of another with whom I had issues and examine if that other person deserved to be lambasted. When a street boy knocked on the window while I rode a taxi or drove my 1997 Toyota Corolla, I immediately put myself as the boy and the boy as me and imagine if I deserve to be given a five-peso coin. I would immediately see my heart in tears murmuring: It is better to give than to receive as a child knocking on doors of others cars. When a fellow media man came to ask me for a contribution for the hospitalization of his or her young child, I immediately thought what if we changed places. I immediately thought it is better to give than to be given for there is no pain worse than experiencing having a child hovering in danger. I did these all by means of doing things in the humblest way I could, even to the point of everybody lecturing and telling me I should have left an inch of an honor for me. There was his one daughter of a senior journalist, a daughter of a great writer I idolize, that I decided to help out of my thoughtless mind with the intention to make her life worthy out of her talent

for cooking to cater the supposed couple of hundreds of workers every lunch so that she could rise from obscurity and infamy and in the process help me. But she later would avoid me after trying to give me an impression she got mad at me for not picking up her own fight. I think it was just a ploy but I had kept my quiet. I lost a fifth of a million and still have no regrets. There was this one man my age who berated everybody around me, including the little boy I enrolled in school and decided to support including his father. But I later heard that the boy stole my three watches that I am now watch-less, stole my five-peso coins I placed on my secret cups, and stole my digital camera, and others. I did not lambaste that man but I just kept my silence and never talked to him or send him a reply to his text m e s sages, knowi n g t h a t t h i s is the least w a y t h a t shame can be caused on a friend who betrayed you. I did not get mad at the boy, too. I just politely told his father I hoped he would understand me because the things went beyond my control. This man my age was too lucky too to get from me for the tuition and food of his son but he was too difficult to understand that I was insulted that he continuously hurt people physically in my presence that he did not stop despite my request for him to control his anger. This man apparently envied the help I gave to the boy who stole my precious belongings. I gave way when there were issues who between me and any of the rest to take the second to the last share or for the privilege to pick first.

I obliged to be the most benevolent despite my scarce resources and the shortness of the patience my emotions could stretch. I succeeded in prevailing upon my heart to reject my pride and ask for forgiveness even for mistakes committed by people against me because friendship means more to me. I sacrificed when it was a choice of who between me and the rest to eat the one only one plate of food left. I compelled myself to call people older than me sir or maam, no matter how far their educational or financial standing against me, comfortable in the feeling that this is one way to at least make them happy. I comforted my thought that I can afford a simple life enough to make me live if to give up one more w o u l d make ano t h e r happy. I know I cannot sleep on two houses that I need o n l y one. I cannot wear t w o pairs of shoes that I n e e d only one. I cannot drive more than one car and I need only one. I only need a certain amount to continue life and my offices operations for two months and can spare the rest. I spent more than threefourths of my income for 2011 for other people and for my causes. I gave to my six informal employees more than half my earnings I earned from my services I rendered. I spent a fifth of a million for my PEOPLES (JURY) JUSTICE SYSTEM advocacy campaigns. I spent about a third of a million for my weekly newspaper Dyaryo Magdalo without return except for the benefit I got in the form of my altruistic feeling that I got important messages

across. I spent two-fifths of a million just to pay for the loans taken by my two sisters using my parents house as the collateral because they can no longer pay. It was not my loan if I chose to be nave the house my father Remo and Mother Remo founded 45 years ago would go to thin air of hopelessness and desperation. I spent almost half a million for my offices, house rentals and utilities in order to continue the services I give. Against all these things I did, I had shares of failures, too. I deprived myself the opportunity of buying a new car when I could afford them if I did not spend for all the matters I stated above. I also deprived some of my siblings of help that they could get from me although I know they tended to need the money more. Certainly, I failed in the department when it concerns my sisters and brothers. I dont know why it was easier for me to sacrifice for other persons than for my own blood. I thought deep what I should do in the next year of my life after celebrating my 47th birthday on the Human Rights Day of 2011. I have resolved to be far simpler in means of life in order for me to

achieve with more vigor the targets of ACHIEVING TO BE OF MORE HELP TO THE PEOPLE I STATED ABOVE, AND BE MORE EFFECTIVE IN MY EDUCATIONAL CAMPAIGN ABOUT THE PEOPLES (JURY) SYSTEM FOR ALL THE FILIPINOS, help the same people more, and increase my love for my brothers, sisters and parents. I have not set a dream to

get a wife soon because it is perhaps one of the most impossible objectives for me now, although I love to have a son or a daughter and build my own family. After all, my bigger challenge is HOW TO BECOME A BILLIONAIRE IN NAME AND HONOR, in the manner that my name would still be mentioned in classrooms 1,000 years later. And I will make it sure that before I die, the Peoples Justice System is in place in lieu of the present system. The present is too bad for the fate of the accused and the accuser lays only in the hands of one prosecutor commonly called fix-cal and whose acquittal or conviction rests in the hands of only one person, the judge. I want that all the poor and the underprivileged have equal chances in every issue of justice: that no man can dictate the outcome of the case Only a jury system of justice can do this. The next challenge for me is how I could give my best to make my father Remo and Mother happy as they savor the rest of their twilight lives. I love them both so much more than I love myself. Thus, as I blow my candles for this birthday on December 10, 2011, I wish I would make my father and mother very happy and see a million more people singing the idea of the people as judges in the courts and prosecutors, too, to ensure that JUSTICE AND HONESTY WILL BE DONE BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE, OF THE PEOPLE. If you wish to give me a birthday present, the best you can give me is A PLEDGE YOU WRITE ON THE COMMENT THREAD THAT YOU GIVE ME A CANDLE OF JUSTICE. Why will Manny Pacquiao bother to produce this digital poster to promote it? As seen in the poster pasted in this blog, posted the poster on his wall. Nevertheless, who am I to refuse his request for friendship? After all, he is my idol. He is much, much bigger than me. If Pacman himself posted the same on his own wall, it means that it was done for his own interest. MONEY for Manny. Now, here is one more -- Pacquiao tagged the poster on the wall of Mayweather. Why will Pacman tag the same poster on MayNO long intro here. Suffice it to say that this is the third incarnation of this column. The first one appeared in a sports magazine, and the second one saw print in the Bulldog edition of Peoples Tonight several years back. That is, if anyone cares to remember. But that was then and this is now, and I am supposedly a better (and definitely older) person and a better writer now, or more specifically, a better sportswriter. A sports chronicler with a sharper view of what is really happening (or not happening) in Philippine sports. A case in point is the recent Southeast Asian Games held in Palembang and Jakarta, where the Filipino athletes won a paltry 36 gold medals. If youre not into sports, 30 golds are quite a harvest. But then, Singapore, a tiny islandstate made up 63 islands and with a population of roughly five million people, took home 42 golds. Singapore placed fifth and the Philippines, sixth. Host Indonesia ran away with 182 golds for the overall crown, Thailand is second with 109, Vietnam ended up third with 96, and Malaysia, fourth, with 59. Two years ago in Laos, the Filipinos won 38 golds for fifth and Singapore had 33 to finish sixth. What does this tell us?
