Fernandez Hospital was the first in Hyderabad to provide in-house tests for both the mother and the fetus when it opened its Fetal Medicine Unit (FMU) in October, 1998. To improve the quality of ultrasound scanning, FH acquired a Colour Doppler for blood flow studies and fetal echo-cardiography in 1992. In 2004, 2 Volusons, the latest 4D high resolution ultrasound equipment was added in the process of upgrading the department further. As a part of Continuing Medical Education, FMU has introduced a new course, Basic Course on Obstetrics and Gynaecological Ultrasound. This course is meticulously planned and structured with lectures, interactive sessions, and hands-on experience, and it is being conducted throughout the year. It enables one to have a basic knowledge in performing the Obstetric and Gynaecological imaging. The course aims at standardization of fetal imaging.

Faculty : The teaching faculty includes Fetal Medicine Consultants, Obstetricians and Gynaecologists who have more than 10 years of experience in the field of ultrasound.

Scope: 1. To gain knowledge about basic USG performance. 2. To be able to do early pregnancy and fetal well-being scans with confidence. 3. To gain confidence in dating of pregnancy, fetal biometry and identification of growth abnormalities. 4. To be able to identify normal fetal organs with confidence. 5. Insight into Nuchal scans and other prenatal screening & diagnostic methods. 6. To image normal uterus and adnexa and their pathologies. 7. Follicular study. Evaluation: This is done at the end of each course, and a Certificate will be awarded after attaining a set standard of performance. Library: The Hospital has a well-stocked library, open from 9.00 am - 9.00 pm. There are many standard text books on Embroyology, Gynaecology, Obstetrics, Recent Advances, Fetal Medicine and Ultrasonography. The latest International Journal, ISOUG, is available for reading. An image bank is available in the Fetal Medicine Unit. Paid Accommodation : Rooms are available on twin sharing basis. Each room is part of a flat which has a kitchen. It is just adjacent to Fernandez Hospital. There is a hospital cafeteria from which meals / snacks / coffee / tea can be purchased.
