How to Archive XI Messages


Purpose (Who Should Do This When and Why): What You Will Need: Creation of Archive Directory The purpose of this document is to document the steps to enable XI for message archiving. SAP logon ID Telnet access to the SAP XI system

1. Telnet to the XI system and look ensure you have a mount point called archive 2. Change directory to the archive directory and create the directories /<SID>/<CLIENT> within the archive directory (e.g. /archive/XID/030).

Validating the BC_XMB Archiving Object

Ensure the directory /archive/<SID>/<CLIENT> has the drwxr-xr-x permission for SIDadm account.

4. Issue transaction AOBJ and double click on BC_XMB.

5. Validate the below settings are identical:

8. Issue transaction SPRO >> SAP Reference IMG >> Cross-Application


Components >> General Application Functions >> Mass Data Archiving >> Create Logical File Path.

9. Click New Entries and enter Z_XI_ARCHIVE_PATH for Logical file


path and Archive path for XI archiving for Name. 10. Save the new entry. Assign Physical Path to Logical Path

11. Issue transaction SPRO >> SAP Reference IMG >> Cross-Application
Components >> General Application Functions >> Mass Data Archiving >> Create Logical File Path.

12. Highlight Z_XI_ARCHIVE_PATH and double click on Assignment of


Physical Paths to Logical Path.

13. Click New Entries then enter UNIX for Syntax Group and
/archive/<SID>/<CLIENT>/<FILENAME> for Physical Path where <SID> = SAP System ID. Then click Save.

Defining Logical File Name

14. Issue transaction SPRO >> SAP Reference IMG >> Cross-Application
Components >> General Application Functions >> Mass Data Archiving >> Create Logical File Path >> Logical File Name Definition, CrossClient. 15. Hightlight ARCHIVE_DATA_FILE and click Change.

16. Change the Logical path to Z_XI_ARCHIVE_PATH and click Save.

Assigning Logical File Name to XI Archiving Object

17. Issue transaction SXMB_ADM >> Schedule Archiving Job >> Archive Management >> Customizing >> Archiving Object-Specific Customizing >> Technical Settings. 18. Under Logical File Name, ensure ARCHIVE_DATA_FILE is selected. 19. Under the Archive File Size section, ensure Maximum Size in MB is set to 200.

20. Ensure Setting for Delete Program and Delete Jobs match below:

Activating Archive Infostructure SAP_BC_XMB

21. Issue transaction SXMB_ADM >> Schedule Archiving Job >> Archive
Management >> Information System >> Customizing. 22. In the Archive Infostructure section, select SAP_BC_XMB then click Activate.

Defining Interfaces for Archiving and Retention Period

23. Issue transaction SXMB_ADM >> Define Interfaces for Archiving and Retention Periods. 24. Enter all the Sender Interface you want to archive and click Flag Interface for Archiving. 25. Enter all the Receiver Interface you want to archive and click Flag Interface for Archiving. 26. Click Retention Period.

27. Enter the below values for the retention period:

Scheduling Archiving Job

28. Login as user BATCH user


29. Click Start Date and schedule a periodic archiving job that runs twice a day. 30. Click Spool Param and enter lp01 as Output Device. 31. Click Schedule Archiving to schedule the archiving job.

32. Issue transaction SM37 and find the job


SAP_BC_XMB_ARCHIVE<CLIENT#> released. Reading Archived XI Messages

33. Issue transaction SXMB_ADM >> Schedule Archiving Job >> Archive
Management >> Read. 34. Click the Execute button. 35. Select the Archiving File for reading and click Continue. 36. At the Archived XML Messages screen, highlight the message you want to view and click Display Archived Versions.
