How to become a Challenger Associate


The notion of Challenger thinking for brands and businesses has grown enormously in popularity in recent years. eatbigfish is a world renowned authority on the subject, and for more than a decade has been working with and continuously researching Challengers. The company is committed to encouraging a movement towards the Challenger way of thinking and acting in business. With our latest initiative the Challenger Associate Programme we are continuing this ambition and want to provide training for others around the globe to apply some of the tools and methodologies that support the Challenger approach, and have helped us build a successful consultancy. To become a Challenger Associate, you will need to attend a training session with eatbigfish. In return, we will not only train you in a range of our most tried and tested tools, provide you with the materials to go and run your own sessions, offer training in better facilitation and other related skills, but also back this up with regular mentoring and support. So whether you want to establish a new business of your own based on this approach, or perhaps just add some Challenger expertise to an existing business, the Challenger Associate Programme may be for you.

The programme overview


The Challenger Associate Programme has a number of components. In the following pages we will cover these in a bit more detail, but the key elements of the programme are as follows. or more of the Partners from eatbigfish.

Training to become an Associate, you will need to attend at least one 3 day training programme. These sessions are delivered by one Workshop Materials you will be able to select from a range of courses. As part of the training we will provide you with the e-learning Programme you will be given access to our online fishfood programme. It brings to life the core principles of Challenger Ongoing Mentoring each Associate will be entitled to regular access to an eatbigfish Partner to provide mentoring and support. Use of the Challenger Associate Identity each Associate will be entitled to use the Challenger Associate logo within their
own materials. All this support comes in the form of a renewable annual license. The first years license is covered in the initial training fee, thereafter it is renewable annually at a much lower rate. As an Associate you will also be entitled to discounts on other eatbigfish products.

Training
The training represents the centrepiece of your accreditation as a Challenger Associate. The training will be 3 day sessions. Our Partners will introduce you to Challenger thinking and train you on our acclaimed Challenger exercises and facilitation skills. After completion of the training you will be in a position to run your own Challenger workshops with confidence and all the tools you will need. We recognise that 3 days is a significant commitment of time but ultimately the Challenger Associate status is a discretionary offer, with eatbigfish retaining the final right of refusal, and the three days together allows both parties to talk around the set topics and get to know one another better. This is an important aspect of the programme we want to establish valuable relationships with Associates, based on more than the training alone. We will be offering training in a range of topics. They will be grouped into key themes: Strategy & Positioning, Idea Generation & Innovation, Activation and Better Brand Storytelling. In any training session, two of the three days will centre on eatbigfish methodologies, with the third devoted to related skills and information such as better facilitation skills, conflict management, and a broader introduction to Challenger thinking. Workshop Materials
Weve now taken some of our most tried and tested processes and exercises from the sessions we run ourselves and turned them into workshop kits you can run yourself. Each training session will centre on 2 or more of our Workshops In A Box. We will explain the background principles to these exercises and how they sit within the world of Challenger Thinking. The exercises are derived from our unique ongoing study of Challenger brands and businesses - people who achieve more with less, challenge the status quo and bring new ideas and fresh thinking to market. The kits come complete with all the briefing and stimulus materials necessary. With these Workshops In A Box, you dont need to know about challengers. You dont even need to have run a workshop before. The kit takes care of all of that. You will leave the training with your own copies of the workshops you have been trained in. e-Learning Programme
We will also provide you with access to our online fishfood programme - a web based curriculum of 7 chapters that look at the principles that have brought Challengers success. This programme brings to life the Credos of Challenger Thinking with introductions to the principles from an eatbigfish Partner, client case studies and stories from beyond the world of business. Access is granted to the Associate but can also be licensed for use with your clients. In addition, you will receive the latest version of our books Eating the Big Fish: How Challenger Brands Can Compete Against Brand Leaders which lays out the 8 Credos of Challenger brand thinking. In our second book The Pirate Inside, you can learn how your clients can build a real Challenger brand culture. Beyond the books, we produce other publications each year, and as an Associate, you will receive these free of charge.

Ongoing Mentoring
As part of the programme, you will receive on-going mentoring support. This will come in the form of quarterly one hour phone calls. We hope that this support will provide a regular way for Associates to keep in touch with eatbigfish; to monitor progress, discuss new opportunities, work through practical concerns, and to help inform the Associate of latest developments. We will share latest case studies, updates on our Challenger exercises as well as new stimulus material. In addition, we hope that the Associate programme will grow into a network of contacts. This will, of course, be an optional benefit but for some we hope to encourage dialogue with other Associates. To nurture this notion a Challenger Associate Network you will be given the option to enrol in a dedicated LinkedIn discussion group where you can exchange views, share ideas and possibly collaborate with other Challenger Associates.

CHALLENGER ASSOCIATE

Challenger Associate Identity


Once you have completed your training and have been accredited by eatbigfish, you will be entitled to use the Challenger Associate logo and identity. This will indicate that you are a licensed Associate and have been trained by eatbigfish. You will be able to use the term Challenger Associate and the Challenger Associate logo for your own marketing needs. In addition, we will be happy to promote you on www.eatbigfish.com. Other Benefits As a Challenger Associate you will be entitled to discounts of future training courses and workshop materials. For example, if you attend more than one training session we will offer you a 10% discount on the second session and 25% on the third.

Fees
To become a fully accredited Challenger Associate, we charge a fee of 10,000 for a one-year licence. This fee includes: The 3-day training The relevant Workshop In A Box kits Quarterly mentoring support Personal access to the fishfood Credos programme All recent eatbigfish publications Use of the Challenger Associate logo Discounts of future products and training The license will be renewable annually. The current rate for renewal is 2,500 for each further year. The annual renewal will guarantee: Continued mentoring support Continued use of fishfood Any new publications Use of the logo Discounts on eatbigfish products.
