Executive Overview Hoosier Burger is a fast food restaurant that specializes in making burgers using fresh ingredients they receive daily. The company plans to abandon their current information system, which is a paper system and purchase a new information system that is more accurate and will help them expand their business. Hoosier Burger has one to three different kind of software that they can choose for their business. Each solution offers benefits and drawbacks, but we believe at least one of these solutions should provide a better inventory system for Hoosier Burger and fit their needs. In this case report, well cover the background, three possible solutions we have found, and finally our personal recommendation for Hoosier Burger.

Background Hoosier Burger is a burger joint that provides a dine-in environment and a home-delivery system. Currently, Hoosier Burger has been receiving many negative customer feedbacks because of their unproductive and unorganized customer service. Hoosier Burger employees take the customers orders on order tickets, then the cash register is not capable of capturing point-ofsale information, and the manager updates the inventory by counting the order tickets one by one on a nightly basis. As a result of their inventory control and customer ordering system being paper based, errors would occur frequently. These errors negatively affect customer delivery orders and the delivery orders that are received from suppliers. Hoosier Burger decided to hire Team BAMB to investigate alternatives and choose the best decision for the company. Bob wanted to incorporate an electronic system that can forecast information, update inventory usage, and record basic sales information. This new inventory system will enable Bob to electronically track inventory usage and sales information. A new information system will also be constructed to accurately track inventory control, customer orders, and manage reports. The new inventory control system will allow Hoosier Burger to update their inventory when a customer orders food. For example: If a customer were to order a cheeseburger and a large order of French fries, then the new inventory control system will be updated as: one less beef patty, two less patty buns, and one half fewer pounds of potatoes. The new inventory control system will also allow Hoosier Burger to update their inventory when more supplies arrive from their restaurant manufacturers. For example: On Tuesday nights, a shipment of 40 pounds of beef patties, 600 patty buns, and 50 pounds of French fries have arrived from Tyson Foods. However, Bob Mellankamp will have to input these additions to the inventory manually through the new inventory control system, which is explain in more detail in the ladder portion of this report.

Analysis Process To choose the best possible solution for Hoosier Burger, our team listed the 6 different sources of software: 1. Information Technology Firms 2. Packaged Software Providers 3. Enterprise Solution Software 4. Cloud Computing 5. Open Source Software 6. In-House Development After comparing the advantages and disadvantages, deciding which options were viable solutions, we eliminated Cloud Computing, In-House Development, and Vendors of Enterprise Solutions Software. We believe that in order for a small business to grow, like Hoosier Burger, it will need reliability and that is not what cloud computing offer. This small business cannot afford to lose profit because of a non-responsive system. Enterprise Solution Software was eliminated because this kind of system would be overly complex and costly. In-House Development was not chosen simply because it would take too much time and would be expensive to maintain once it is implemented.

Team Name: BAMB 6 Possible Solutions Our team has come up with three different solutions; The first solution is a packaged software system. The name of this packed software is Fishbowl Inventory. This software is expensive but offers a complete solution to the inventory problem presented by Hoosier Burger. The cost of this software is approximately $4,195 dollars. This cost covers license keys for the program and the hardware needed to run the application. The benefits of using fishbowl inventory are; easy to use, touch screen ready, barcode scanning, payment processing, order management, detailed tracking, QuickBooks integration, cloud computing or servers available. The drawbacks if we use this all in one software package is that the price is steep, and there is almost no customization available. Maintaining the software would also cost a lot for a small company such as Hoosier Burger. The second solution is DataMax System Solutions. This software is custom made to fit the business needs directly. The cost of this system is $2000 $6000 and includes hardware and software. Features of this software are to be determined by the customer and depend on what he or she needs. The benefits of using this custom software are that it is completely customizable and fit the needs of the business. The software that is created is built to address the company specific needs. Custom software also helps with less training for employees. This will help save money for the business in the long wrong because less money is required for training. If the system is implemented well, the company could save a substantial amount of money. Some drawbacks are it takes time to create the customizable features and it can be expensive depending on what is wanted in the new system. The customized software would have less support and maintenance unless you pay for more support. Hardware is a lot harder to replace and upgrade. The only way to replace or upgrade components would be to contact DataMax and pay for them to do it for Hoosier Burger. The third solution is Floreant Point of Sale for Restaurant. This software is open source. The benefit of using this software is that it is free and the community for this software offers a lot of assistances when needed. They software comes with touch screen ready activities. It will make it easier for the employee to create, edit, merge, split, void, reorder, and payout tickets. The manager is also able to operate drawer pull, drawer bleed, and credit card tip payments & reports from the receipt printer. It also comes with kitchen print, which allows you to route receipt to the kitchen and allows you to track wastage and assign dedicated Kitchen printers for different terminals. The software provides you with friendly interfaces for managing food menu, special packages, beverages, modifiers, and cooking instruction. The cash terminals will handle combinations of payment types in cash or card. It will automatically calculate discounts by percent or fixed amounts. It also accepts gift card and coupons. The software will allow managers to create financial reports including sales summary and detail report ranging from hourly income report, gratuity tips report, drawer pull and credit card reports. The drawback of using this software is that the only support you have will be from the community. If you are having problems, you might not be able to get answers quickly. There might be bugs that are still not sorted out and affected the business.

Team Name: BAMB 7 Recommendations

Our team recommends that Hoosier Burger should consider using the third software solution that we proposed earlier. The software is called Floreant Point of Sale for Restaurant. This software is an open source. Open source has the benefit of being free software, dramatically cutting costs for the Mellankamps. Maintaining the software is left up to the community, which is very active in fixing errors and bugs. Any support needed can be found using the Internet and Floreant website. This also cuts costs considerably because it wouldnt require the hiring of an IT professional or someone else that would maintain the system. It has many other benefits including touch screen ready as well as allowing employees to simply do point of sale tasks that are generally needed in a fast food restaurant environment. The point of sale software also allows Hoosier Burger all types of payment from cash to credit. Floreant POS was originally developed for the restaurant business. Inventory control is also an aspect that makes Floreant POS the right system to use for the Mellankamps because it is simple and easy to manage. As stated in the previous paragraph, this system has a touch screen component. When the cashier completes the order in the touch screen and submits it into the ordering system, the inventory will automatically be updated. It will subtract the amount of beef patties, lettuce, tomatoes, and/or French fries based on the customer order. The reduction of supplies will also be noted in the kitchen prints and in the manager reports. However, when the supplies manufactures sends Hoosier Burger their new packages of supplies and ingredients, Bob Mellankamp will have to manually report the additional supplies and ingredients into the inventory control system because the manufacturing trucks are not incorporated with Floreant POS. Bob will only need to do a simple number input, on the touch screen monitor, of the new supplies in the inventory control system. (Example: input 40 more pounds of beef patties, 50 more pounds of potatoes, 400 additional hamburger buns, etc.). The Drawbacks for this type of system is learning how to use it. It can be difficult to learn all the features in a short period of time. Another drawback to using open source software is there is no twenty-four hour help line that can be called if a problem does arise. However, Floreant POS has a 24 hour forum page that allows all the restaurant managers who use their system to interact with each other and help one another with their problems.
