1. SCOPE This procedure details the requirements Visible Magnetic Particle Inspection Continuous method using AC Yoke limited to ferromagnetic materials for the inspection defects which occur open to the surface and near surface of girth weld, repair and tie in joint on pipeline, piping and structural joint. This document meets the requirements of standards and codes/specifications. 2. REFERENCE DOCUMENTS The following codes, standards and client specification are used for reference in the preparation of this procedure. ASME BPV Code section V Non Destructive Examination ASTM E-709 Magnetic Flaw Detection ASTM E-1444 Standard Practice for Magnetic Particle Examination AWS D1.1 Structure Code ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 1 ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section IX for Welding and Brazing Qualification ASME B31.3 for Pressure Piping API 650 Welded Steel Tanks For Oil Storage API 1104 for Pipeline and Related Facility DNV OS F101 Submarine Pipeline Systems PERSONNEL All key personnel directly involved with magnetic particle inspection shall be qualified to one or more of the certification schemes below and have been eye sight tested to successfully read Jaeger J2 size letters at a distance of not less than 300 mm. And shall meet the minimum requirements of PT.MEGATEK KONSINDOs written practice on certification of NDT personnel (Doc.No. MK/WP/001 Rev 2). PCN Personnel certification in NDT to Level II standard ASNT American Society for Non Destructive Testing Recommended Practice document no. SNT-TC-1A for Qualification and Certification of nondestructive testing personnel NDT Level II personnel. EQUIPMENTS & CONSUMABLES The equipment used shall be 220 V PARKER B 310S or equivalent model. Adjustable AC Yokes. A prior permission of the customer is mandatory if the working conditions require to use permanent magnet. Prior examination, AC electromagnetic yoke will be subject to daily load test of 10 lb steel calibration block with maximum pole spacing shall not exceed 300 mm. Verification of sufficient flux magnetic field density using Burmah castrol magnetic flux indicator. Consumables will be chosen from ELY product that specified as follow: - Magnetic ink = ELY Supramor 4 Black or equivalent - White Contrast Paint = ELY 712 or equivalent - Cleaner = ELY S72 Solvent or equivalent - Dry Powder = ELY Ferromor N D 5 / Grey MPI Powder or equivalent

5.2 Surface Preparation Prior to magnetic particle inspection, it must be ensured that the surface to be examined include 1 each side of weld is free from oil, paint, grease, weld spatter, or other extraneous matter, which could interfere the inspection process. If a contrast aid is required, the white contrast paint shall be applied uniformly. Dry powdered magnetic particles will not normally be used with a contrast aid. 5.3 Magnetizing Method (Continuous Method) The magnetic field will be applied using the test equipment mentioned in section 4 with articulated poles shall be used to ensure poles are placed flat onto the surface. Apply a finely divided wet/dry magnetic particle on this magnetized surface. If no indication is apparent, the direction of the magnetic field should be turned through 90 degrees and the application of inspection media repeated to ensure full coverage of the test area. At least two separate examinations shall be performed on each area. The technician shall move to the next area by ensuring an adequate overlap with the previous test area and the procedure repeated. 5.4 Examination and Interpretation The material surface shall be examined under appropriate viewing condition in good light conditions of intensity 1000 lux or greater, and flaws will be indicated by a build up of the magnetic particles. If any doubt exists over suspect indications, the surface will be cleaned and re-inspected. If an indication is confirmed as being a defect, then it should be evaluated against the acceptance criteria in para. 6 6. ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA The acceptance criteria is defined depend on following specification : - Pipeline : API 1104 Latest Edition or DNV OS-F101 - Structure : AWS D1.1 - Piping : ASME B31.3 or ASME B31.8 - Tank : API 620 or API 650 - Pressure Vessel : ASME VIII - WPS/PQR or Welder Qualification : ASME IX
