s ENVAULT is designed with a SCADA system at the core, many functions are available that are beyond the capabilities of traditional web based data presentation package. One of these is the ability to display animated graphical representations of sites, or mimics as they are named in SCADA terminology. The ENVAULT mimics can: Automatically update as new data arrives Graphics can be as detailed or realistic as desired As values and current states update, this can be used to modify symbol colours or behaviour Mimic symbols can be selected or clicked, allowing pop-up windows with more detailed information Network diagrams showing site interconnections work especially well, with ENVAULT totalisation or mass balancing possible

The mimic features have all the same licence features of the ENVAULT subscription in that there is no limit to the number of users that can concurrently connect to the your stations. Additional engineering time is the only extra cost, to allow for completely customised mimics showing your specific site arrangement

hile measuring environmental conditions is the cornerstone of our business, some conditions are not easily measured or quantified, or need to be visually verified to ensure a true and accurate historical record. Images captured at specific times or on-events can by used to qualify measured data or quantify non measured information. A typical application is to capture a photo of the water surface when a

turbidity reading is collected, or a sample is taken to allow the operator to see conditions that may be affecting the reading. Other applications include images to supplement noise and blast projection data, plant stress conditioning, security monitoring (as shown in the image here), wildlife activity or any parameter that cant be easily measured. Images stored are archived for future analysis www.greenspan.com.au 2

s part of the collaborative partnerships between Greenspan and Aquatic Informatics, Greenspan are proud to announce the latest release of STARS, the Sample Tracking And Receival System, developed by Greenspan to integrate within the Aquatic Informatics AQUARIUS package. STARS extends the capabilities of AQUARIUS by streamlining the eld processes involved in sample collection and by making it easy to automatically receive laboratory and eld test results.

The ability to combine discrete eld measurements with related laboratory sample test results Verify required sampling has been performed & laboratory test results have been received Display discrete eld and laboratory results together with real-time SCADA data Generate compliance reports against a range of compliance types such as drinking water guidelines/regulations, tradewaste licence conditions, or confirming operation within operational control bands Automated data forwarding to external stakeholders

Focused on end-user productivity, STARS simplifies field data collection processes including: Recording of field test results and sample bottle collection with a variety of field computers, including tablet PCs

The product is being marketed for Greenspan under the Aquarius banner.

reenspan is proud to announce that we recently won the NSW Business Chamber Award for Excellence in Business Innovation. With more than 1,800 companies entered into the various categories awarded on the night, it is a prestige and an honour to be selected. While partially a recognition of the innovative approach Greenspan applies to solving environmental problems, it also reflects the challenging problems that many of our customers face but still ambitiously attempt to solve. Greenspan thanks everyone involved in the winning of this award and looks forward to competing again next year. arrah Watson recently completed the initial phase of a new Data Acquisition System roll out for Manitoba Water Stewardship (MWS). This system is now running in parallel with the legacy NewLeaf system to allow users to become familiar with the new software as Manitoba prepares for an expected epic flood season after record snowfalls this year.

EnviroSCADA is an innovative telemetry solution developed by Greenspan that extends the industrial strength ClearSCADA platform by adding the capability to support most popular environmental dataloggers. This technology has already been successfully implemented at a number of project sites and also underpins Greenspans own hosted telemetry solution, ENVAULT . The EnviroSCADA installation for MWS acquires data from 376 sites across Manitoba, consisting of: 283 GOES (satellite) 25 Dialup land-line sites 68 Manual (files copied to a Hot Folder for automatic

ingestion into EnviroSCADA) Flood forecasting is one of the principal activities of Manitoba Water Stewardship with water level and water temperature being the main types of sensor data collected at each telemetered site. The second phase of the project, scheduled for June this year, will

include the addition of an Aquarius client/server system integrated with EnviroSCADA to allow MWS personnel to edit data, generate rating curves and ultimately provide quality approved flow data for flood prediction models.

alculation of flow is important in many areas of Greenspans work, from flood warning systems through to irrigation modernisation. A suite of techniques and instruments exist to suit the variety of conditions, hazards, budgets and resultant accuracy requirements, each with their unique set of limitations and site requirements. Some of difficult conditions typically encountered are:

Radar level which is unaffected by temperature, unlike ultrasonic level sensors Small, compact design including small solar powered telemetry option for communications direct to onsite SCADA or hosted online SDI-12, RS485 or independent analog outputs for measured level, measured velocity and calculated discharge. Detects river bed changes Low power consumption suited

for solar power operation Mounted from a bridge, arm, raised platform or even a riverside mast (not necessarily overhead) Onboard theoretical flow models for standard structures, which can be refined by onside calibration (to convert surface velocity to flow totals)

High flow velocities, especially during flood Backwater effects from tides, confluences or constrictions causing hysteresis Rock, debris or other damaging objects in the flow Vandals or thieves that target riverside instruments The need to be able to visit and service the instrument in all flow conditions, Lightning strike potential exacerbated by long cable runs

Consult your Greenspan representative for help with instrument selection to suit your site, particularly in sites with any of the listed difficult conditions.

Directly measure Stage (h) and Local Velocity (Vl), Calibrate or model for Mean Velocity (Vm) and measure Cross Sectional Area, to determine Discharge Q.

We are proud to introduce the Sommer RQ-30 Surface Velocity Radar which measures the surface velocity of the flow with a Doppler velocity radar, and the corresponding level with a radar level, safely above the river surface, solving many of the problems identified. The instrument features: Waterproof IP68 construction Operates from low surface velocities all the way through to extremely fast surface velocities, up to 15 m/s Internal inclination sensor automatically adjusts for the angle of the measurement Bi-directional flow capable Multiple radar velocity sensors into a single RQ-30 station for measurement of surface velocity distribution over wide or variable rivers

An ADCP is often mounted low in the flow, an insensitive zone during flood conditions, while the RQ30 always measures the surface, a more sensitive zone

The RQ30 is suited to, channels, streams and rivers from the small to the very big

he back page features items that we cant quite make into full articles but are nevertheless worth noting. This quarter we highlight: The flooding recently throughout Australia has affected many of our staff and clients directly. To help in getting conditions back to normal, Greenspan and Tyco staff have donated over $40,000 to the flood relief efforts, to help our local communities get back on their feet. Steve Bailey has recently retired from managing Campbell Scientific Australia after 18 years as Managing Director. With several staff at Greenspan having previously worked for and with Steve, we all want to wish him the best during his retirement, and may it be a long one! Singapore International Water Week is coming up this June and Greenspan will again be part of the Aquatic Informatics
