Media studies: Content page analysis.

This is an abnormal way of producing a contents page for a magazine, as the colours are black and white. This is different as the magazines are usually bright and colourful. However, as you can see, the images, text, huge text which is highlighted with huge and bald standard and other stuff are what generate the interest of the audience reading it. The image on the left is used to show visual content on the content page. This provides interest to the reader. The image provides a feel of strange and abnormal content to it. Various random images suggest that this magazine is one that varies in what content it displays. Another feature of the contents page is the colour scheme. It is black and white as opposed to colour. This is a perfect example of how content featured such as images, layout and text in bald; manage to draw in the attention and interest of the reader even when the colours do not. Something else interesting is the language used. The only writing besides the headings are the small phrases which supply hints to what the sections in the magazine are about, such as The six steps and Blood in the gutter. The phrases are informal, and in the style of slang. This may indicate that the magazine is more aimed towards a younger audience. Perhaps teenagers who wouldnt mind the black and white too much and would still enjoy it due to language type as well as content featured such as images. Another factor interesting about this contents page is how there is a black box surrounding the white box containing all of the content. As mentioned earlier, the colour contrast helps as it get the reader viewing the magazine pages to realise things due to how they are appear in contrast to their surroundings. In this case, the reader pays more an interest to the centre of the page with the actual contents and images more because the white box surrounding it stands out from its black surrounding. This is a good technique when it comes to making certain content stand out and making the reader take more interest. The content is in bald writing so it is easier to notice by the readers. The introduction subheading is still in bald, but has a contrast in colour. This could be considered a visual example of binary opposites used to generate interest from the readers. The numbers are also set in huge, bald text so it stands out. The writing is then positioned in-between the number and an image which represents what it is about. This is a challenging layout and design of a content page to the original F, Z; and other rules of a layout. The thick line separating the numbers and section of the contents page show how the design has separated each number and section by huge thick lines. These fit inbetween each contents number and phrase help to stand out each individual part of the page. (E.g. line inbetween 1 and 2.)
