Dear Parents: At CAJ we are Equipping students to impact the world for Christ. We want students to be Responsible Learners, Discerning Thinkers, Effective Communicators, Productive Collaborators and Faithful Caretakers. Students need to be prepared to use the technology of the 21st Century. To help prepare our students we are integrating technology into our classrooms. Students in grades 2-5 are expected to practice keyboarding skills. Grades 4-5 will receive a grade on speed and accuracy on their report cards. Typing Pal and other keyboarding programs are available to work on keyboarding skills. Some time will be spent in the classroom introducing keyboarding but your child should practice at home or in the library or computer lab after school 3 times a week for 10-15 minutes. All of these sites can be accessed from the Student home page on the CAJ website http://students.caj.or.jp/misc/esweblinks/. Each grade will have a class blog. This is a place where student photos, videos and work will be posted. It will be password protected. Usernames and passwords will be given out at the beginning of the year. Students should only identify themselves and other classmates by their first name. A student avatar will be created in the classroom and students and parents will be asked to not change the student avatar. Posting and comments will be part of the classroom instruction time but students will also be expected to comment as part of their homework. Students will learn about online safety, security and copyright in the classroom. We encourage families to also look at these issues in consideration of technology at home. Common Sense Media(http://www.commonsensemedia.org/) has some wonderful resources. The technology department and classroom teachers are also happy to discuss these issues with parents. Parent Technology workshops will be scheduled throughout the year. Students are allowed to used the computers in the library and computer lab before and after school for school work and approved educational activities. Students will be provided with and taught proper use of email beginning in third grade. Students will be expected to use email to communicate with teachers in fourth and fifth grade. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------____ My childs photo and work may be posted in the classroom blog. ____ We have read the Acceptable Use Policy for Students Under the Age of 13 and agree to abide by all its provisions.
