Traces of Grace
Dear Fellow Parishioners; It was so tempting to stay in my bed and warm! But then I would have missed a packed church huddled together for warmth welcoming with praise and song their beloved mother, the Virgin of Guadalupe. At 4:30am, on Monday, December 12, our community gathered at San Felipe de Jesus singing 'Good Morning' to our Blessed Mother on her Feast Day. Mass followed celebrated by Fr. Domingo Zambrana, S.T. and a couple of sleepy priests (Fr. Mario wore his pj's under his alb!). This was the conclusion of a novena where for nine days; Fr. Domingo led a retreat with confessions, Mass and a time of reflection for the community. After Monday's Mass, we crowded into the courtyard of San Felipe for tamales, champurrado, and greeted each other warmly as our day began. This Feast also signals the remaining days of Advent before Christmas. (as if ads in the paper, internet and TV aren't reminding us enough!) What possibilities for growth in our faith might there still be for us? Perhaps one should spend quiet time reading the infancy narratives of Matthew and Luke. Perhaps we could write notes or call friends and family we have not made time for in the past year. Possibly discovering that there is a family or individual who could use a gift or two because there has been no work in their family for some time. This list goes on and is self evident if we are open to the wonder of the Christ Child, God Incarnate among us, around us, and in us. May you discover blessings in these days! Together in Christ;
Rasgos de Gracia
Estimados Feligreses; Era muy tentador quedarme en mi cama bien cmodo y abrigado! Pero entonces, me hubiese perdido de una iglesia llena, de calor humano acogedor, con alabanzas y cantos para la madre amada, la Virgen de Guadalupe. A las 4:30 a.m. el lunes 12 de diciembre, nuestra comunidad se reuni en San Felipe de Jess cantando las maanitas a la Santsima Virgen en su fiesta. Seguida por la Eucarista, celebrada por el P. Domingo Zambrano, S.T. y un par de sacerdotes adormecidos (P. Mario llevaba la pijama puesta debajo de su alba!). De esta manera se dio conclusin a la novena, donde durante nueve das, el Padre Domingo dirigi un retiro con confesiones, Misa y un tiempo de reflexin para la comunidad. Despus de la Eucarista del lunes, nos conglomeramos en el patio de San Felipe para disfrutar de unos ricos tamales, champurrado, ponche y saludarnos clidamente mientras inicibamos nuestro da. Dicha fiesta tambin nos seala los ltimos das de Adviento antes de Navidad. (Como si los anuncios en los peridicos, Internet y la televisin no bastaran!) Qu posibilidades de crecimiento en la fe existen aun para nosotros? Tal vez uno debera pasar un tiempo serenamente leyendo los relatos de la infancia de Jess segn los evangelios de Mateo y Lucas. Quizs se podra escribir notas o llamar a los amigos y familiares a quienes no se ha llamado en el ltimo ao. Posiblemente, descubrir que hay una familia o individuo que podra necesitar un regalo o dos, puesto que no ha habido trabajo en su familia durante algn tiempo. Esta lista continua y se hace evidente por s misma, si nos dejamos sorprender por el Nio Jess; Dios encarnado en medio de nosotros, a nuestro alrededor, y en nosotros. Que ustedes puedan descubrir abundantes bendiciones en estos das! Juntos en Cristo;

idly approaching the glorious celebration of Christmas. We are happy to announce our eighteenth annual Giving Tree which is placed in the vestibule of the Church starting December 3rd.. Instead of Christmas decorations, the Tree will be decorated with envelopes containing the names of needy families in our community. If helping a family this year will enrich your Christmas, this is the perfect opportunity.

Inside each envelope are the names of family members and ages of the children. You may choose any envelope. Usually food is provided to the family so they may prepare their Holiday meal, and please give gifts to the family, especially the children. Do what feels right for your family and experience the joy of a truly Giving Christmas. Please be sure to contact the family ahead of time to get an idea of their needs and verify ALL information listed in the envelope. There are names and phone numbers of Spanish interpreters with the family information that can assist you as needed. It is also VERY important that you enter all information into the Christmas Giving Tree Book on the table by the tree. Another option is to choose an envelope from our
other Tree. You may donate scrip, cash or checks which will be used to provide food and necessities to needy families. There will be a box in the Church office for these donations. We will also have a Toy Bin in Church throughout the Advent Season. All toys should be new or hand crafted and left unwrapped. The Giving Tree can be one way this Christmas for you and your family to glorify the Lord. In the words of Jesus, Whatever you do to the least of my brethren, you do unto me. May God Bless You The Christian Service Office
