SAFETYASAMANAGEMENTFUNCTION
Theprimaryroleofafleetsafetyprogramistoreducemotorvehicleaccidentsandprotectemployees. Safetyshouldbeconsideredanessentialcomponentofeverymotorvehiclefleet,regardlessofvehiclesizeor type. Safetymustnotsimplybesomethingthatisdonewhenitisconvenient.Safetymustbeacompanyvalue. Thesafetyofouremployees,whethertheyaredrivingacompanyvehicleortheirownvehicle,isourutmost priority. Allemployeesshouldadheretothefollowingsafetyrules. Eachemployeemusthaveavalidstatedriverslicense.Thecompanyemployeeisresponsiblefor knowingandcomplyingwithallfederal,state,countyandlocaldrivinglaws. Theuseofacompanyvehiclewhileundertheinfluenceofintoxicantsandotherdrugsthatcould impairdrivingabilityisforbidden.Thisbehaviorissufficientcausefordiscipline,uptoandincluding terminationofemployment. Nodrivershalloperateacompanyvehiclewhentheabilitytodososafelyhasbeenimpairedbyillness, fatigue,injury,consumptionofalcoholorprescriptionmedication. DefensiveDrivingGuidelines

Driversarerequiredtomaintainasafefollowingdistanceatalltimes.Driversshouldkeepathree secondintervalbetweentheirvehicleandthevehicleimmediatelyahead.Duringslipperyroad conditions,thedistanceshouldbedoubledormore. Driversmustyieldtherightofwayatalltrafficsignals,emergencyvehiclesandsigns.Driversshould alsobepreparedtoyieldforsafetyssakeatanytime.Pedestriansandbicyclesintheroadwayalways havetherightofway. Driversmusthonorpostedspeedlimits.Inadversedrivingconditions,reducespeedtoasafeoperating speedthatisconsistentwiththeconditionsoftheroad,weather,lightingandvolumeoftraffic.Tires canhydroplaneonwetpavementatspeedsaslowas40mph. Radardetectorsareprohibitedincompanyvehicles. Turnsignalsmustbeusedtoshowwhereyouareheadingwhilegoingintotrafficandbeforeevery turnorlanechange.
