3. Verb-is a word that expresses action physical or mental or a state of being. - is an action word.

. Action verb- this is a verb that expresses the action or behavior of someone or something. An action verb may be transitive or intransitive. a. Transitive verb- is a verb that expresses action which passes from doer, called the subject to a receiver, called the object. Every transitive verb requires an object to complete its action.

Example: I hate you. You pushed the bag. I gave you the doll. John traded his apple and Jane's orange with her. I tried on the shoes. He met her yesterday. She wrote a story last year. Rust destroys iron. We walk to the railway station. The children jump with joy.

B. Intransitive verb- is a verb that requires no receiver of its action. The action denoted by verb is completed, not by an object but by a modifier.

Example:

Do not tremble in fear but become strong and courageous instead. When I hear your name, my heart breaks" The thoughts of youth are long thoughts. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down. 2. Adverb of place answer the question where

Example:

Sheila went inside. The kids went outside. Let's go forwards. She sent him away. On a perch beside him sat a blue parrot.

I looked for it everywhere. The parrot sat on a perch. He stood in the doorway. He lives near me. Over the wall came a shower of stones

3.Adverbs of degree answer the question to what extent.In addition they are used to heighten or limit the meaning of word,an adjective,or an adverb. Examples : He was working very fast. He felt extremely sorry for her misbehaviour. My octogenarian grandma is too week to walk even with a stick. This medicine has completely gone out of order. He rarely comes to Mumbai. We seldom go there.

It was a very hot day. Irene is a rather good musician. Muktar plays the sitar extremely well. Pablo and Hector are very good friends.

4. Adverbs of manner answer the question how.They tell in what means an action is done.
Example:

She asked me in such a nice manner that I couldn't refuse.. He did it the right way.. They spoke in angry tones. I slept like a baby.. He drove like a madman.

He is a good dancer. He dances well. It was a hard decision to make. I hardly had any time to talk to her. The train was late as usual.

5.Adverbs of frequency tell how often an action is done.

Example:

She can sometimes beat me in a race. I would hardly ever be unkind to someone. They might never see each other again.

They could occasionally be heard laughing. I always remember to do my homework. He normally gets good marks in exams. They are never pleased to see me. She isn't usually bad tempered.S She hardly ever comes to my parties. They never say 'thank you'. 6. Adverbs of negation and affirmation are used to negate or affirm an action or characteristic.
Example:

I will not come. We will certainly help you. Will you come? Yes. (= Yes, I will come.) Have you finished the work? No. (= No, I havent finished the work.) Surely you are mistaken He certainly went. I do not know him. I hope my parent just for once will say yes to my latest idea. You must have heard about the haunted house surely? It would indeed help if I had a bodyguard. 7. Adverb of doubt or uncertainty express how unlikely or likely something to happen.
Example:

He looked at her suspiciously. The children are suspiciously quiet .
