WithtransportationcostsontherisethroughoutEuropeandincreasingpressureto reducespend,horizontalcollaborationprovidesauniquesolutiontoimproving supplychainefficiency,assetoptimisation,minimisingtheriskofemergingmarkets, andmaintainingmargin.Theinitiativeisbynomeansaquickfixitrequires diligence,patienceandinternalsupportatalllevels.However,horizontal collaborationinthesupplychainisswiftlyspreadingandcompanieswhoignoreit willfindthemselvesatahugecompetitivedisadvantagedowntheline. VII.Conclusions
Theanalysisofourrecentsurveyrevealsthathorizontalcollaborationinthesupply chainisindeedspreadingnotonlyintermsofawarenessandacceptancebutalso inpractice.Companiesarebeginningtorecognisethepossibilitieswithinthis initiativeandseekouttheopportunitiesavailable. Therearestillobviousbarriers(partnersourcing,AntiCompetitionlawsandtrust withinpartnerships)butwithbenefitssuchasdramaticreductioninthecostof distributionandtransportation,optimisedservicelevelsandfuelefficiency,itsclear thatmorecompaniesarelookingathorizontalcollaborationasthenextstepintheir supplychain.
