NYU at AUP

Course Selection Procedures

You should know that registering for courses when studying with NYU at AUP happens a little
differently than with other NYU study abroad programs. Since you enroll directly in classes offered at
AUP, you can’t register on Albert the way you normally do. We’ve prepared this document as a guideline
to inform you of the process for registering and hope that it’s helpful. Please feel free to contact us at
nyu.at.aup@nyu.edu if you have questions after reading the information below.

Before Submitting Your Course Selections

All students attending NYU at AUP must submit a list of twelve preferred courses as part of the required
online forms. Submissions without twelve courses listed will be considered incomplete and will not be
forwarded for registration consideration.

Before you get to that stage, you must complete several steps. First, visit the following URL:
http://www.nyu.edu/studyabroad/aup/course.offerings.html. Then...
TO-DO LIST BEFORE YOU SUBMIT YOUR COURSE SELECTIONS
Review the The catalog, which can be accessed through the website above, will give you a general idea of the courses
AUP Course that are offered at AUP. However, please keep in mind that, like at NYU, some of the classes in the
Catalog catalog are only offered periodically. You can check the list of regularly scheduled AUP classes, also
posted on our website at the address above, which indicates classes that are usually offered each semester.
*Don’t pick your classes from the catalog. Use the online browser, described below.*
Review the Your NYU school may have already approved certain courses offered at AUP for major or minor credit.
Course We have posted course equivalency charts at the website above. Please note: Not all courses on the charts
Equivalency are offered every semester. Please review these charts carefully, and don’t forget to review the courses

Accepted students will receive notification when the browser is active. As at NYU, classes can be
cancelled for a variety of reasons, but this is the most up-to-date information available when you consider
your options. *You should choose your 12 classes from the browser, not from the course catalog.*
Consult with Visit with an academic adviser in your department/school to discuss your course selections and receive

Submitting Your Online Forms
Now you’ve come to the stage where you’ll submit your online forms. Because you’re not registering on
Albert, we have created a section in the NYU at AUP online forms system to select your classes. All
students must select twelve classes by the deadline date specified on the Admitted Students page of NYU
at AUP on the Study Abroad website, including at least one French class and 11 other options, ranked
from your first choice on. Please note:
TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN SUBMITTING ONLINE FORMS
French Course Your French course should be listed in field # 1.
Upper Level French If you are taking an upper level French course (FS), please indicate one alternative FS class
Course in your course selections.
GSP Sophomores GSP sophomores should do one of two things for their Topics class:
Topics Class 1 If GSP has identified the Topics class option(s) for the upcoming semester and has
informed its sophomores, please select that class in the #2 field.
2 If GSP has not identified the Topics class yet, please write “GSP Topics Class” in the #2
field. We will enroll you in the appropriate course once GSP has notified us of its decision.
Please note that this may mean a schedule change for you, based on the rest of your classes.
Tip on Course Selection Don’t include a course that you won’t get any credit for!! All 12 options should have been
reviewed by your adviser or should count toward your degree requirements in some way.
Format Please submit your courses in the following format: AB123 Paris is Beautiful.

Some Other Things You’ll Want to Know

HELPFUL THINGS TO KNOW
Registration at NYU All students enrolled in the program will be registered for the upcoming semester by our staff.
There is no need to register for classes on Albert. Your registration will be for a block of
credits rather than for specific courses. Your specific courses will not appear on Albert until
after your semester is completed and your grades have been received and approved by your
NYU home school. The releasing of grades is described in more detail in the NYU at AUP
Blackboard shell.
Registration at AUP NYU works closely with the AUP Registrar to enroll you in classes based on your selections.
As at NYU, you may find that not all top choices can be accommodated, but there is a
drop/add period at the start of the semester during which students can change schedules,
keeping in mind the need to consult with advisers back on the NYU campus on any new
courses. More information on drop/add can also be found on Blackboard.
Schedule Notification Students will be notified of their course schedules for the upcoming semester by email.
Schedules cannot be changed until the regular on-site drop/add period for all students at AUP
after orientation in Paris. The exception to this rule would be the need to change a French
language class level, in which case that one course can be changed during the registration
period designated to NYU students during orientation week at AUP.
Pre-Registration vs. When students receive email notification of their schedules, AUP considers you what they
Registration call “pre-registered” in your courses. This simply means that you still need to go through
the physical process of registration at AUP during orientation week, when you also get your
AUP ID card. There is a specific session for NYU students to do this. Because you are “pre-
registered” until then, your classes will not appear on your AUP account (once AUP sets up
your access to that). Do not fear! Your schedule is, barring cancellations, locked-in according
to the email notification we mention above. In AUP’s eyes, you haven’t officially registered
until you go to the meeting during orientation. You must attend this session or you will not be
considered registered.
