MBA Research Proposal Guidelines Saturday December 3rd, 2011, IBAT Swords.

Dear Colleague,

Thank you for your recently submitted Research Proposal. In line with University of Wales requirements, you are required to verbally present a summary of your Research Proposal to IBAT. As you are aware, these presentations will take place on Saturday December 3rd in IBAT Swords.

You will be assessed on the following criteria (20% per each criteria)

1. Your ability to explain the relevance of the research area you have chosen. I guess that they want to know why you have chosen this area, be prepared for questions like why you think this is important, what can this add to previous research, this has not really any relevance for us in Europe etc 2. A synopsis of your literature review sources (ie which of the 8 sources have you selected, and why?) You know this one better than me but this comes down as part of your method 3. A detailed justification of your primary research selections. You should try to keep this one clear and short, use bullet points. Just like a sales talk which you should be good at.

4. Justification of your sampling method and sampling type strategies. So this is something they probably will push on. Your data collection has a flaw as I see it and it is that you will have to gather a lot of data from a resource that can be a bit hard to reach. Emails are so easy to ignore or do later, also be prepared to tackle questions regarding your absence, by this I mean that you are not in Korea and have to conduct your research from Dublin a couple of thousand miles away. For the above you can answer that you are aware of the issue but that you are familiar with the communities and you can also say that you will have friends in Korea that will help you as well. There will also be questions regarding your focus group but just be clear on how you will select the participants and what criterias you will use. Also be clear when you explain why you have chosen the criterias. 5. Justification of which research design strategy you have selected. Not sure what they want here but it looks like this one goes in on the above.

Logistical points: 1. On the attached sheet you will see your allocated time. Please be present 15 minutes before your allocated time, and take a seat in Room 7. As you will be aware already, timekeeping has unfortunately been a serious issue for a small number of students in the Research Proposal lectures. Please note if you are not present at your allocated time, you will not be able to present. 2. Your presentation will last a maximum of ten (10) minutes. Please ensure you do not go over this time period as you will lose marks. 3. You will be required to verbally discuss your area so there is no requirement to deliver a power point or a flipchart presentation. 4. If you do not understand any of the questions, please do not hesitate to ask me to clarify. You will not lose any marks for this.

5. Your overall mark (ie PASS or FAIL) will be based on the mark you attain for your written submission and also the mark you obtain for this verbal presentation. As discussed in class, please be advised that this verbal presentation is worth 10 credits so it is important that you are fully prepared for this presentation. I will be in a position to issue your provisional result before the end of term. 6. I will have your submitted hard copy of your Research Proposal with me so there is no need to bring me an additional copy. 7. If your name, or a colleagues name, is not included on the attached spreadsheet, please advise me of same immediately.

Wishing you the very best of luck on Saturday. Best wishes

Rory Byrne and Louise Hill.
