Introduction

Throughout the world there are various types of industries that spoil the quality of life for all creatures and the nature. Although some environmental pollution is a result of natural causes but most pollution is caused by human activities like industrialization. Early history-When industrial impact started to be occurred: This activity of contamination has existed since humans first began to use fire for heating, cooking, and agriculture. During the Industrial Revolution pollution became a major problem due to different machines and steam engines that led different kind of pollution. Pollution increased because of the establishment of factories in cities which continuously emit fumes that cause harm for the environment.

Impacts of industries on environment

Global warming: Global warming is considered one of the major and serious causes of air pollution caused by industries and other sources of air pollution. The emission of certain gases known as greenhouse gases which are the main factors causing global warming. These greenhouse gases often result in an increase in the temperature which not only hurt the natural balance but also human health. Acid rain: Industries often emit large amounts of some specific gases into the atmosphere. When these gases react with water vapors in the atmosphere, they cause acid rain which results in reduction of plant and animal growth and also causes serious health disorders such as cancer, skin disorders and even death. Respiratory Disorders: The emission of various gases such as often results in various respiratory disorders such as bronchitis, asthma etc Destruction of Ozone Layer: The ozone layer is a thick layer that protects us from dangerous radiations such as UV rays to support and sustain life on Earth. Hence, the pollutants above mentioned often damages the atmosphere, thus causing various health risks in humans such as skin disorders like rashes, irritation and even cancer in severe cases.

Water pollution: Industries using manufacturing facilities use huge quantities of freshwater to carry away wastes of many kinds and then these wastages are contaminated with fresh water of lake and sea which is the source of water for human, Thermal pollution is another kind of water pollution. Noise pollution: Noise pollution is excessive, displeasing human, animal or machinecreated noise that spoils the activity or balance of human or animal life. The source of most outdoor noise worldwide is mainly construction and transportation systems, including motor vehicle noise, aircraft noise and rail noise.

Measures taken by general industries for improvement

Many of the technologies which do not conform to the quality of products have been discarded. Awareness messages through programs for the prospective and existing entrepreneurs on usage of cleaner technologies and pollution control have been spread. Waste minimization steps for improvement of productivity have been taken by companies like Toyota. Scientist are also developing cars using hydrogen gas-which a environment friendly gas. Industries are getting specialization in different kinds of pollution management. Recycling and energy conservation programs have been planned. Waste audit I the most important thing which is being conducted in many of the industries Common Effluent Treatment Plants are being encouraged. Environmental risk assessment based plans are being followed during relocation of units.
